Who wudda thunk it? Tesla stock rose today to $298 and surpassed Ford in value. Which is insane. Not not too insane. I sold my TSLA stock today @ $293. I’m still an Elon cult member. But I think I’ll be able to buy back in at a lower price.

I think in the long run Tesla will become the worlds biggest auto maker, the worlds biggest solar installer, and the world’s biggest battery maker. But I think the likelihood that the stock will go down in the short term is good.

And why do you think the stock price will go down?

  4. Hmeyers says:

I think it is a great thing that Tesla is acquiring more stature.

I’m not an Elon Musk fan, but he has come up with innovative ideas and concepts.

Most of the traditional automakers have not pressed hard for futurism in design because the status quo works for them.

If I had stock, I’d sell too. market goes up and down. Time it/play it as you interests lead you.

I agree on solar and batteries….but not the car deal. Too many competitors better positioned…..not even considering china.

If you actually are thinking that Electric Vehicles will soon rule the road: then I agree. Its funky and not sexy…but I think more attention should be given to compressed air cars. Solves a lot of issues now and in the future even with a “perfected” battery which is still over the horizon.

AKA: batteries. The buggy whip of Green Energy.

    Stay tuned.

    • Earth, Wind, and Fire says:

Do you have any data regarding the viability of compressed air as a power source?

Can’t imagine you could go very far (an energy density thing).

        • bobbo, never read the headlines says:

I think you left out miniature nuclear power plants.

      • bobbo, never read the headlines says:

Energy density is just one of many different issues when going green. As alluded, the other is battery technology. The compressed air vehicles can be “filled” everywhere there is an air pump and the storage containers are off the shelf tech. No rare Earth…explosions very rare. Very easy “low weight” vehicles have an easy 200 mile range between fill ups. Home high pressure reserve can be pumped up using solar energy thereby acting as that energy battery that is so key to more distributed applications.

Easy to google if you have an interest. The vehicles do have limited range, don’t supply air conditioning real well, slower acceleration and so forth. The daily commuter car that can’t do it all. It should be part of the mix….. but its just not sexy.

    • ± says:

A full sized welding bottle weighing 117 pounds and full of compressed gas at 3000 psi (a bomb) stores roughly about 2kw-hours of retrievable energy. This is approximately how much energy is stored in a 200 amp-hour lead-acid car battery.

The battery wins this contest hands down. Lithium ion batteries might be better. Capacitor technology is in it’s infancy. It promises to have the highest energy densities of all.

      • ± says:

BTW, compare your 117 pound bottle at 3000 psi, 2 kw-hrs energy, to 33.4 kw-hrs of energy stored in a gallon of gasoline weighing ~ 8 pounds.

      • bobbo, never read the headlines says:

        …… which contest is that?

Her take was it was taken off the air due to protests that is had no black women…actually 2 in the background and 1 to catch the blond wig, and that it was indeed using “serious” political unrest to push their poisonous sugar water onto the public….. claim was 200K dead per year from this disease in the can.

………..how this connects to anything in this thread escapes me on casually not thinking too hard. But the full commercial was almost bearable except after Madow ruined it, I couldn’t lust after Jenner at all…… even after I ignored her complete …….. vapidness/irrelevance?

What one word do you think best sums up a fair evaluation of the Kardasian Phenomenon?….. Pepsi. It is mind rot in a can.

          • Hmeyers says:

I thought the video was very — I’m not sure what word I am looking for — perhaps “rose colored glasses” distortion.

A company like Pepsi or Disney is likely to convolute something badly.

    So played.

  7. Ah_Yea says:

The Tesla stock price will go down, and this is why.

All Tesla’s have been Supercars, albeit with a limited range.
Driving a Tesla as a Supercar severely limits its range, usually less than 100 miles. This range limit will apply to the T3 as well.

Except for people buying into the dream, who would choose this over a Chevy Volt? The Volt has comparable performance and can travel half way across the country on a tank of gas. Not to mention you can buy and service one at your local Chevy dealer, who isn’t going away any time soon.

Eventually the limitations will overtake the dream.

Electric vehicles will be the future.

They are more efficient and have a lower impact on the environment.

They are have less moving parts, so they are a bit more design efficient and require a bit less maintenance.

“Liberal” has got nothing to do with it.

        • Hmeyers says:

When electric cars that people actually WANT to buy become mainstream …

It will be like a thin flat screen TV vs. a 1990s beastly CRT television.

Or one of those big “cell phones” from the 1980s vs. a modern smart phone.

Tesla has been able to come up with the solutions to get electric cars to be something mainstreamable.

There will be many more challenges ahead, but there is finally some promise of moving away from gasoline cars which has been used in cars since 1886.

          • Ah_Yea says:

I agree electric is the future, I question if Tesla will make it there.

I do like the idea of solar powered rooftop charging a second electric battery during the peak hours so I can have a fully charged car the next day.

Tesla was on to this but quit the program.

When this becomes a reality, then I’m all in.

So yeah, it’s likely this lady is lying.

Do I care about this? The Washington politicians are doing 3 Stooges stuff with the “Russians” and “spying on Trump” …

Lots of fucking around on the job and minutia. Did you know Congress is only in session 8 days this month?

And these ass clowns in Washington spend their time asking the FBI about “who did what and when” about stupid horseshit. And the CNN and MSNBC think this horseshit is “BIG NEWS!”

I have to check out BBC to get the real news these days. They do a better job doing actual American news than any of the US media outlets.

Maybe they should spend their time coming up with a list of things they can do on Obamacare that both parties think make sense?

    • bobbo, never read the headlines says:

Mostly funny because shorting is extremely risky.

I thought he was being sarcastic, but maybe it’s what he’s done.

          • Ah_Yea says:

            He’s serious.

Of course the problem with shorting is hoping someone will buy your stock at the high and sell it to you when it’s low.

Marc hopefully bought the stock at a reasonably lower price than what he sold it for. Then at least he made some money.

          • bobbo, never read the headlines says:

Well Oh_No==I was going to give you one Funny Bone for your first sentence, but then you ruined it by showing a complete lack of understanding of how stock is sold short.

Ahem: its not bought at a high but rather borrowed or optioned at any given price, then it is given back when the price falls lower. You pocket the difference….aka…no second buyer. As the market does go up and down, the win is timing the downmarket move within your option period……given the vagaries of the market….>>gambling.

This surprises me as you certainly post like a brain dead bidness man. I certainly assumed you would know something so basic?

          • NewFormatSux says:

No he has it right. If you borrow someone’s stock and sell it, then someone has to buy it, and when you buy it back and return it, someone has to sell it. Of course the stock market works that people will be available to fill at the current price. Your hope is that the price at which someone is selling is when it’s low.

          • bobbo, never read the headlines says:

NFS: I don’t think you are being sarcastic at all by providing us all with your own subconscious slip.

The KEY concept you added that Ho_Ons skipped over is the borrowing/option part. Selling short doesn’t work without that part.

            basics.

          • Ah_Yea says:

Yes, NewFormatSux, you’ve got it right!

Marc was talking about shorting his own stock, therefore no buying was needed.

It’s great to find someone who can read and comprehend, unlike some.

As the intelligent understand, shorting a stock is simply selling a stock high and buying it back at a lower price.

Borrowing someone’s stock is one of a number of methods of accomplishing the short, but by no means the only way.

          • bobbo, never read the headlines says:

Ah-Yea–that is about the dumbest post ANYONE could ever make.

Its NOT what Marc posted. He sold his stock…he did not short it.

            Sucks to be you.

          • NewFormatSux says:

So what? If someone says the hope when buying a box of fruit is that there are none spoiled, it is irrelevant to say buying fruit doesn’t work without a medium of exchange.
