Sales of recreational marijuana have blown past expectations in Nevada, threatening to leave some dispensaries with empty shelves. After Gov. Brian Sandoval endorsed a statement of emergency in the first week of legal sales, regulators are looking to bolster the supply chain.

The Nevada Tax Commission is meeting Thursday to determine whether the state has enough wholesale marijuana distributors; it could also adopt emergency regulations.

  1. Phydeau, not actually packed with Wall Street veterans says:

Nevada tax officials expect pot sales to generate $100 million in revenue over the next two years.

Woohoo! Stoners helping to balance the budget! 😀

  2. NewFormatSux says:

I don’t know if thought thru the effect of having Vegas smell throughout, the loss of revenue. They banned secondhand smoke because people hated the smell and the tobacco corporations were branded evil. Only a matter of time before Big Marijuana gets the same treatment.

    • bobbo, we think with words and flower with ideas says:

I’d be surprised if all the anti-public smoking laws don’t apply to MJ?

MJ should be legal….and the anti-smoking laws should apply.

      • NewFormatSux says:

What’s annoying is when they apply it to vaping.

          • bobbo, we think with words and flower with ideas says:

Thanks Tim—I have no real opinion on the subject. I’m with spiffy on this subject: any smell at all is sufficient to ban it from public dispersal.

Of note, as you say, it is particulate matter. NO PARTICULATE MATTER is “good” for the lungs.

            Is that not true?

          • bobbo, we think with words and flower with ideas says:

Last I heard, cancer and tobacco were only highly correlated…. about 30-40 % of long time tobacco smokers get cancer while the balance is made up of non-smokers.

Contra is emphysema—almost 100% correlation much more directly implying causation. I’d think this would apply to MJ or any other particulate inhalant? …. and I do take your point on vapor or mist not being a particulate, but would be surprised if anything other than water vapor is not “something” if not suspect until proven otherwise. Same with the expectorant theory….although I would guess this has been “proven” by now???

          • NewFormatSux says:

I read 90% of smokers get nothing. 10% get the bad stuff. It could be that 30-40% of cancers is due to smoking, 100% of emphysema.

        • NewFormatSux says:

The point of the vaping rules is they have ruled tobacco use is a sin that the Left will police. Vaping is close enough that they will treat it the same way. The safety issue is a smokescreen.

  3. ECA says:

    This is funny.
As the DISTRIBUTION part and supply is controlled by the State.
And ONLY 7 State liqueur distribution companies CAN send it out..
BUT ALSO, the Liqueur Stores must Meet Criteria..

“At least seven wholesale liquor dealers have applied to become marijuana distributors — but the tax department has said that as of July 5, “no wholesale liquor dealer has met the application requirements to receive a marijuana distributor license.””

This is the State running into its own FEET, for regulations it installed..

  4. spsffan says:

It’s my understanding that the casinos were against it. It makes sense, as in comparison to alcohol, it a pot high isn’t particularly conducive to sitting in front of a slot machine.

And then there’s only 7 booze distributors in Nevada? Really? You know the states have to be careful not to put too much cartel power into the legal pot market or people will just go back to buying the old fashioned way.

On vaping, well the jury will be in deliberations for about 25 or 30 years about the health aspects. But like tobacco, pot, cologne, diesel exhaust and farts, it stinks, and I’d just as soon not have to smell it.

  5. Fuck the Politicians! says:

    As I’ve always said,

Free to be as STUPID as you want to be.

Just why this shit was ever made illegal is what boggles my mind. If you’re truly “free” then you should be able to drink yourself to death or shoot crude oil into your veins if you want to. As long as you don’t hurt or even inconvenience someone else, I say, go for it! (We are long overdue for some more heard thinning.)

Note to lawmakers: Please make EVERYTHING legal. Stop this insane war on drugs (or whatever) that only enriches the military industrial complex. And whatever you do, PLEASE stop trying to make life safe for the imbeciles by forbidding them to smoke dope. Pssst! It’s called “natural selection,” and while not very pretty to look at, is very necessary to keeping the gene pool from getting clogged up with “debris.”

    • spsffan says:

Indeed. I recall being about age 9 or 10 and not understanding how or why it could be illegal to ingest any particular substance.*

Ditto for something like flag burning (as long as it’s your own flag and is done in a safe manor). It’s laws like that that gave me an innate fear of cops.

Of course, slavery was perfectly legal in this country for 85 years, so go figure.

And, I’m all for a large scale thinning of the heard. Clearly we have too many people, and way too many stupid ones.

*Yes, I know the law only covers sale, transportation and possession, not necessarily consumption.

FTP – Will you still be able to pay your taxes and not suck from the public coffers more than a citizen’s fair share?

If so, great. If not, please OD ASAP.
