Trumpcare went down in flames last night. I take back all the bad things I said about McCain. I’m glad McCain will be remembered as the guy who did the right thing rather than the wrong thing.

Republicans should rejoice because it puts this behind them. They didn’t want the bill to become law anyhow. They were calling Paul Ryan for assurances that the House would never get to pass what they just tried to pass themselves.

If my cancer treatment works then I will contact McCain somehow and share it with him. Had he voted the other way I would have left him to mere doctors.

However – the new definition of a hero is when someone is expected to do evil and decides not to – they are a hero. Sad!

  1. Marc Perkel says:

Just for grins, assuming my treatment actually worked, which I won’t know for 5 more weeks, and if I were McCain’s doctor, I would have done a different treatment.

Unless they get lucky and actually cut out all the cancer, it will most likely grow back and grow into parts of the brain that they can’t get to. So McCain might last a year or 2 but it’s not going to be fun as radiation and cancer eats his brain away.

His only chance is an immune response to the cancer. That’s the only mechanism that kills the cancer down to the very last cell.

    My Treatment:

I would have left the tumor in place but would have used freeze spray to freeze the center of his tumor and I would have done that with an infusion of immunotherapy drugs and immune boosters. The will cause part of his tumor to die and the immune system would then learn the cancer antigens as enemy and attack the tumor. A week after treatment McCain gets a fever and the cancer is cleared,

Would this actually work? Possibly. But compared to certain death it has a higher probability and doesn’t involve burning his brain away.

  2. MikeN says:

According to CBO, ObamaCare is forcing 15 million people to buy health insurance that would otherwise not sign up. Many more are facing higher premiums, hundreds of dollars more per month.

    • Likes2LOL says:

      MikeN,

Every years millions upon millions of conscientious objectors are forced to pay taxes into a military system that operates a prison on Cuba that skirts the Geneva Conventions and confines people without a day in court. We also use unmanned drones to drop missiles on people in countries we haven’t even declared war with. Even that girl Malala had the cajones to call out President Obama in the Oval Office for his wrongful use of the drones.

The U.S. forces people without kids or cars to pay taxes for schools and roads, why NOT have a universal health care system that eliminates the for-profit insurance middlemen and lowers the price of care for every one? We pay twice the per-capita rate for health care than all the other industrialized countries where EVERYONE is covered.

      • Hmeyers says:

“why NOT have a universal health care system that eliminates the for-profit insurance middlemen and lowers the price of care for every one? We pay twice the per-capita rate for health care than all the other industri”

        Sounds good.

If a mentally retarded child ran this system, it would be awesome.

Unfortunately, it would the US government running it instead of a mentally retarded child.

Ever call the IRS — you’ll wait 45 minutes and get someone not interested in the slightest? Read about the VA hospitals mismanagement?

What about how awesome the DMV is?

You would be begging for a mentally retarded child to be in charge.

The European countries have small governments and are geographically concentrated.

        • Ohffs says:

Maybe the GOP should stop cutting funding gain and again and again to staff the IRS.

Personally never had any problems or particularly long wait at the DMV. But then maybe it’s just you who might be the problem.

          • Hmeyers says:

Is that the “I know you are, but what I am I?” response.

The federal government doesn’t to the roads or do the schools.

But they do run things like the VA hospitals and such.

They couldn’t even get the Obamacare web sites working after spending hundreds of millions of $$$ on them.

      • MikeN says:

Well ObamaCare has not lowered the price of care for everyone, and it did not eliminate the profits of health insurers. However, many are fleeing the exchanges as the profits there have turned into losses when people aren’t willing to follow the mandates and buy something they don’t want.

        • Hmeyers says:

They say the obesity rate in this country is like 40%.

They need to group people together by BMI and do the risk pools that way.

  3. Circuitsmith says:

Some months ago I suggested changing the name from “Dvorak Uncensored” to “Perkel Unhinged”

  4. ± says:

If Trump doesn’t manage to pass some major legislation during his (likely short-lived) presidency, that will make him the most successful president of recent times since this would mean he avoided fucking things up more than they were already.

    • Hmeyers says:

Truth. I have grown to like the gridlock.

Ineffective president, ineffective congress = no new laws. Also no new regulations.

      • bobbo, we think with words and flower with ideas says:

Meanwhile: Putin takes over the Middle Europe, Iran takes over the Middle East, China Takes over Africa, Germany controls Europe… Its like playing Risk, but you never take your turn….OH!==>and the WallStreet Hucksters take over the USA Economy.

….. and we are all going to die from AGW without the gays and trans-sexuals to save us.

        Its a “revolting development.”

        • Hmeyers says:

After 9/11, Libya decided to make good with the USA and renounce all nuclear/chemical weapons efforts, pay reparations to the Lockerbie plane bombing and give the UK 2 terrorists.

In 2011, we bombed Libya with Hillary Clinton advocating it and then excited when Kadaffi died.

Iran and North Korea are never going to disarm.

Kim Jong Un and friends saw what happened to Kadaffi after he cooperated with the West.

        • MikeN says:

Why you say we will die from AGW, when you keep telling us the renewables are getting ever cheaper and will beat the fossil fuels? You think people are going to spend more money just to emit CO2?

    • bobbo, we think with words and flower with ideas says:

Wear glasses now: Do you think aliens have taken over the Earth?

      • Hmeyers says:

In the 1950s and 1960, we thought there would be life in our solar system.

        Venus. Mars. Somewhere.

Probably in the 1970s, 1980 they thought there might be life in a nearby star system.

        Alpha Centauri. Barnard’s Star, etc.

Now we largely figure out what kind of planets stars within 500 light years have.

A 500 light year radius is a huge chunk of space and very statistically significant.

Supposedly, we should be in one of the best areas of the galaxy to have life.

But the stars around us, don’t seem to have any decent planets.

I guess what I am saying is that the more we find out, it seems like the odds of aliens keep dropping like a rock.

The seeming unsuitability of nearby stars/planets is disturbing and if it statistically represents what is common place in the *best* parts of the galaxy, we will be lucky if ever find other life in our galaxy.

        If it even exists.

        • bobbo, we think with words and flower with ideas says:

The odds of life and even intelligent life in the Universe, avoiding the debate on Mother Earth, are OVERWHELMING.

The odds of finding simple organisms: I think fairly high as well even in our own solar system…any liquid water has great potential once you apply any other heat/energy source like gravitational friction and so forth.

I think finding intelligent life is almost impossible. distances are too great.

But I don’t see the import of any of it. ET Life can be conceptualized. That is sufficient for my imagination.

          • Hmeyers says:

Current theories are that the Earth had way too much atmosphere (like Venus) and had to be blasted away by collision with what became the moon.

If a planet our size needs to hit with grazing blow by another object to knock off the atmosphere …

the odds of life go from normal to freakish.

Especially considering how few galaxies, stars and planets are suitable to begin with.

A simple filter about galaxy activity, location in a galaxy, star type, metal content, planet type, orbital distance — already reduces probabilities to something thin.

Add in that Earth/Moon collision is a freak, and it starts to get very sketchy.

I hope there are aliens out there, even near us.

But the math/science keeps getting worse.

Mars rovers study of Mars is making it bleak that Mars ever even had microbes.

Plus Mars soil is very toxic to humans, making Mars colonization seem rather hard because even with water/oxygen we can’t use that soil.

I’d like some good news, sure. But I’m not getting my hopes up.

          • bobbo, we think with words and flower with ideas says:

I’ve never heard of the “too much atmosphere” theory.

Take your probabilities of life anywhere and multiply that % by the trillions upon trillions of planets that are out there.

If you go for just mere “life” the odds are many times higher than “life like right now on Earth” which does have lots of seemingly significant rare occurences besides having liquid water. Having a tilt is a favorite, a hot magnetic core is VERY important, throw in the moon…add in as many others as you wish.

But ….. even more importantly “I” think is: who cares??? Whatever finding life would establish for whomever: just assume it and start from there. Whats the diff????

          • Hmeyers says:

            Yeah, sure.

Except there are more bacteria on Earth than stars by a massive margin.

The “trillions of trillions” thing actually doesn’t work statistically.

If the trillions of trillions thing worked, we would find a bacteria that liked a vacuum or liked -200C.

All it takes to neuter “trillions of trillions” is a single bizarre probability that has a shit tons of zeros.

Like how how life on Earth apparently (according to current scientific thinking) depended on a freak collision to blast away our atomsphere so we weren’t a Super-Venus.

If planets like Earth normally are a Super-Venus with super-thick atmosphere and crushing atmospheric PSI, then the odds of life enter “totally fucked” levels of probability.

It doesn’t mean there aren’t Earth sized planets like ours. It simply reduces the probabilities in way with more zeros that your way of thinking has realized.

          • Very late to the party says:

Life is so remote in the Universe, it’s a certainty these lifeforms will never meet.

Since advanced intelligence and technology is a pre-requisite, all will have destroyed themselves using developing technology LONG before reaching the ability to escape their own local neighborhood.

I think this a Grand Design:

Preserve life throughout the Universe through isolation. And let the astronomers, physicists, and science fiction writers be our story tellers.

        • Lawrence Delano Purvis says:

          No, that didn’t happen.

And do the same post again.

It’s funny every time, though. And so true.

And also proof that some people do still use the capslock key.

Oh that is so strange that even though both Denmark and US are western countries, the healthcare is so different over here.

Everybody in Denmark have free health care and free schools – we even het paid to study in the free schools.

On the other hand our taxes are higher than in the US
