Donald Trump will soon announce that he is switching parties from Republicans to Democrat. Trump is already laying the groundwark and testing the waters for such a switch. In the last week he has:

  1. Did a deal with Dems to raise the debt ceiling and avoid a government shutdown.
  2. Reversed his position on DACA.
  3. Announced that America will not pull out of the Paris climate agreement after all.

Trump is angry at Republicans who can’t govern and most of which didn’t even show up at his nominating convention in 2016. Trump like Schumer – and he doesn’t like McConnell, and he doesn’t like the Russia investigation. So he thinking “Screw ’em. I’m becoming a Democrat!”

Ann Culter is calling for his impeachment.

  1. raintrees says:

Aren’t they one, big party anyway?

  2. bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

From page 62 of the Art of the Deal: “If you are going to be a double Agent, make sure you don’t tell both sides that is your game plan.”

I guess he grabbed some pussy instead of listen when his ghost writer read that to him.

  3. NewFormatSux says:

    >Did a deal with Dems to raise the debt ceiling and avoid a government shutdown.

Republicans just showed they can’t pass anything. He kicked things down the road for three months. Note Republicans are the majority in Congress, so if they didn’t like the deal they could sink it.

    >Reversed his position on DACA.

No he didn’t. He canceled DACA. The only reversal is in not doing it on day 1. When he was on 60 minutes before becoming President, he signalled he wouldn’t deport people.

    >Announced that America will not pull out of the Paris climate agreement after all.

10 minutes later, they sent out a message that their position had not changed. The original statement was they would pull out UNLESS they can get a better deal for the US. The canceling of the Clean Power Plan is going forward, and this was Obama’s vehicle for implementing the Paris Accord.

So 0 for 3, but Ann Coulter is calling for impeachment.

  4. David Jung says:

    But will they have him?

  5. noname says:

Not going to happen. Changing parties is not going to change the Mueller’s investigation.

    • Hmeyers says:

      What is Mueller investigating?

Or is Mueller loading up on fat government paychecks for himself and his friends?

The government wrote Mueller a blank check to splurge money from the public trough on himself and his legal acquaintances.

      • NewFormatSux says:

I’ve been wondering about that. Nancy Pelosi and others have been quietly pushing their party away from Russia. Mueller looks to be focused more on Manafort and Flynn, and is hiring way more lawyers than he needs, 20 high profile guys, presumably earning at least 10000 an hour.

        • Hmeyers says:

I bet Muller can spend nearly $100 million/year and no one in the Washington swamp will bat an eye.

So I would expect this investigation to never end.

If someone gives you the ability to spend $60 million-$300 million with no oversight, and you can dole it out to your legal buddies —

Yeah, you are going to take the windfall for as long as you can.

Mueller has no oversight, big budget and no need to get results. He’ll probably prosecute one or 2 people as “cover your ass”.

        • Hmeyers says:

Update: The Ken Starr investigation of the Clintons cost $30 million in taxpayer money.

Hillary email investigation cost $6.8 million.

Mueller definitely has a bigger budget than that.

          1) Fat cat enjoying spreading the government cheese around his buddies
          2) No need for results.
          3) Find 1 or 2 small fries to charge with something trivial like bad government paperwork.
          4) PROFIT!

          • NewFormatSux says:

I miscalculated $1000 an hour as 200k per year. Mueller’s lawyers are probably making less than 10k but close to $1000 an hour.

      • NewFormatSux says:

Mueller should also be investigating the Awan case.

        https://circa.com/story/2017/09/14/national-security/the-awan-breach-on-capital-hill-gets-murkier-and-leads-to-more-questions

It is looking very likely that Hillary is the cause of all the hacks, including that of the State Department. Huma Abedin sent thru Hillary’s server the password to the secure State system for viewing documents. The DNC e-mails that are in Wikileaks start right after Hillary’s first e-mail.
Plus it was Hillary’s crack IT team that told Podesta to click on the phishing link to change his password.

  6. Hmeyers says:

Trump made have decided that since working with the Republicans isn’t panning out, just to go full fledged liberal.

By doing this, he can set up his children to run New York city in the future (mayor, governor, etc.)

His advisors are already stocked with New York liberals from Wall Street.

His children will never be living in “red states”, they are New York city types.

    • Hmeyers says:

If a Supreme Court justice dies or retires, Trump will probably probably play some hard ball with the Republicans and if they don’t play ball it’ll be Merrick Garland time.

  7. Hell has frozen over? says:

Dinner is an interesting forum for conversation (and sometimes agreement and compromise).

    We need more.

At least there was no reported food fight!

  8. tom says:

And it is not even April 1st yet!

  9. Rex says:

Sources? Sounds like fake news. The Democrats won’t want him in their party, look at the damage he’s done to the Republicans.

  10. NewFormatSux says:

Trump could have won the Democratic primary, with almost the same positions. He would change the opening speech to produce a different anchor from the Bernie lexicon(blow up the big banks?, national health care card?). He would then attack Hillary on e-mails and all the scandals, declare that if he is not the nominee he will run third party and riot the convention. What will Democrats do faced with the possibility of President Cruz? I think they would abandon their scandal plagued person for the lifelong Democratic donor who said he was very pro choice, wanted Bush impeached, wants to get along with everybody, supports socialized medicine, against hedge funds, etc.

  11. bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo? says:

“Robert Mueller is a govt employee, as Special Counsel. He works under DoJ and his salary is likely between $200K and $250K tops (best guess)”….

    https://quora.com/How-much-will-Robert-Mueller-be-paid-as-Special-Counsel-to-investigate-the-Trumps-campaign-ties-with-Russia

I assume the same for his team…..but they could be special contractors. don’t care enough to look it up.

    • Hmeyers says:

Ken Starr spent $30 million investigating the Clintons.

And that was 20 years ago so I don’t know what that would be in 2017 dollars, probably $60 million.

And he didn’t have 20 lawyers on his team.

      • bobbo, we think with words and flower with Ideas says:

How many lawyers should Mueller have on this team?

  12. bobbo, we think with words and flower with Ideas says:

Say HM: is that stick up your ass rough or smooth?

Took 5 minutes on google: Starr had 20 lawyer.

As of Aug 1, Mueller had 16.

That would be the shits “if” you had any point to make to begin with. EG: the “import” of the Mueller investigation about 10 times more important and relevant than the one against Slick Willy.

………..but what do you care? Everything being mindlessly and vacuously knee jerk partisan.

    • NewFormatSux says:

Starr kept having more stuff assigned to him. He was the second Whitewater special prosecutor, then they kept adding more, and Starr went to Reno to request adding Monica to the case which was related to Whitewater. I’m skeptical of the accuracy but Wikipedia says
Starr would later receive authority to conduct additional investigations, including the firing of White House Travel Office personnel, potential political abuse of confidential FBI files, Madison Guaranty, Rose Law Firm, Paula Jones law suit…

I don’t know what is a correct number for Mueller, but he technically should not have been appointed because he was never assigned a specific criminal investigation to be a special prosecutor. He was also never assigned any additional investigations.

I find it strange that you say he has 16, because I have seen higher numbers reported. Are some of the lawyers leaving the gravy train because they don’t like what they’re seeing?

      • bobbo, we think with words and flower with Ideas says:

I found 16 using the most recent date a 5 minute search would pull up. I didn’t know what the numbers would be…..its just dumb luck Mueller is less than Starr………and then as you do the analysis can begin, if one has the interest.

I don’t even care. THE ISSUE IS: identifying when shit is just thrown on the wall as if the comment had any meaning whatsoever.

It appears, I can be as crotchety as HM….but I don’t just make it up without having a standard in mind based on partisan talking points.

Maybe either or both men should have more or less lawyers. How can anyone tell?

        • Hmeyers says:

So you a lot of faith that Mueller is investigating Russia?

          You are quite the patriot.

The VA hospitals have big budgets and they don’t treat their patients. The IRS has a big budget and they won’t answer questions on the phone. Comey had a big budget and wrote a memo saying he was going to clear Hillary months before the investigation was over.

Scammer doctors defrauded Obamacare, none of them are in jail.

I think Mueller is probably doing as thorough an investigation of Trump as Comey did for Hillary.

Perhaps you are right and when people in Washington DC get their hands on a big budget without any oversight they do a great job because Washington DC demands results.

          • bobbo, we think with words and flower with Ideas says:

            Whats your beef HM?

When you are kneejerk negative about everything……..you’ve got nothing to contribute.

From the reports, Mueller is pretty much after Manafort and his Russian Money. Looks like his Russian counterpart was interested in using Trump as a useful idiot and was using Trump Junior to close the noose.

Its OBVIOUS Trump uses Russian money to fund his investments and was looking to build the largest Hotel in Russia…..and is still lying about it to this day.

This is most important because it is about the AlreadyTooRich and the way they promote themselves over the interests of their countries…….. even when they decide to run for and win the frickin Presidency of the USA. Trump needs to burn in Hell …. as a lesson to every other AreadyTooRichFamousfromTV pimp that is out there.

            Get back on your meds.

          • NewFormatSux says:

            “It’s OBVIOUS”

            Well lock him up then!
It’s also obvious that most of the DNC e-mails were sent AFTER they brought in Russia-blaming CrowdStrike to review the server.

        • NewFormatSux says:

I remember seeing 17 or 18 before then, with a new hire listed for August(who should have been disbarred for lying to a judge about DACA…).

I remember Ken Starr as getting $1000 an hour, so I added for lawyer salary inflation and assume it’s a little higher.

  13. Yankie Doodle says:

Oh Crap! We don’t want him..

  14. Oscar says:

    oh no!

  15. Hmeyers says:

@Bobbo — I’m not negative. I believe the people in Washington DC are mostly there to collect paycheck and fatten their bank accounts.

You think the FBI is there to investigate the powerful?

No. It’s not true. They are there to placate the powerful.

If they were, there would be indictments for the Clinton Foundation pay for play scheme.

The elites in this country are never held accountable. You can see in the bankers who looted bailouts, doctors that rip off Obamacare, letting Hillary off.

Let’s say everything you think Trump might have done with Russia is true, the FBI still would do nothing.

The purpose of an investigation with no oversight is the investigation itself.

The pretense that something is being done, while not doing anything.

Mueller knows the Washington game well, if he has no oversight he can spend and hire to his heart’s content to earn future favors for himself, friends and family.

Helping them land jobs at law firms, banks, cozy jobs at lobbying firms, etc.

    • bobbo, we think with words and flower with Ideas says:

HM: you are on the right side of things….then just take it too far. Like too many…you complain about the other side doing xyz when your own side does the same and worse.

yes, there are Dumbo “operatives” and Republican operatives and everyone feathers their own nest. You pose as if you want purity…in an unpure world.

Partisan and self interested….. you don’t think Mueller is putting the fear of jail time into the powers that be?…. or just about as bad, having to spend money on lawyers to avoid it????

      Get real.

      • Hmeyers says:

Oh I am sure Trump is real worried about legal bills.

While he spends tens of millions jetting around to different golf courses on the taxpayer’s dime.

And you have other malfeasance like this:

        http://money.cnn.com/2017/09/13/news/economy/mnuchin-honeymoon-jet-investigation/index.html

No, unlike you I don’t have a “side”.

        Sides are for fools.

      • Hmeyers says:

Haha Bobbo thinks Trump is worried about legal bills.

Meanwhile the government pays Trump’s various resorts and foreign dignitaries spend money at Trump properties trying to curry favor.

In addition to Trump jetting around on the taxpayer’s dime instead of spending those millions himself like during the campaign.

I bet those legal bills from the Russia investigation are causing Trump great financial pressure.

        • bobbo, we think with words and flower with Ideas says:

HM: for real….I was thinking about everyone but Trump. but including Trump I would say paying lawyers also involves having to take the time and talk to them and get bad news you are usually isolated from, collect and review records, get an early look at how easy its going to be to prove your easy lies won’t work any more………..the whole gamut of the legal system.

Its just one of the many reasons Trump is finding it hard to staff up his vacant positions.

          • Hmeyers says:

I think a special counsel lurking around is good for Trump.

His behavior the first couple of months seemed a little too “unpoliced” or “unsupervised”.

          • NewFormatSux says:

What would be good is if they impeached presidents more often. Nancy Pelosi couldn’t even bring up an impeachment for lying about WMD. There were other things where Bush could have been impeached, like selling ambassadorships.
Obama should have been impeached for DACA.

Hillary and her whole team should have been(and should still be) impeached while out of office over her e-mails.

          • Hmeyers says:

Washington DC is a shithole where most of the people in power do illegal things.

None of them ever get prosecuted or go to jail.

The ones that do are small fries.

Manafort? What part of government does he run?

Oh yeah — none. Perfect example of a small fry.

He is a lobbyist, they get prosecuted all the time. Not because they are a big fish, because they are the small fries.

          • bobbo, we think with words and flower with Ideas says:

Hillary: can’t be impeached. but can and should be criminally prosecuted for the OBVIOUS breach of National Security.

I blame the Media. About as gross and obvious an example of Politicians getting away with MURDER that could be crafted.

The small fries in such cases would have been taken out during the FBI no knock raids at 3AM. The kind of call Hillary really does need to take.

        • bobbo, we think with words and flower with Ideas says:

Well, well, well……….maybe not “worried” but “interested enough” to use campaign funds to pay for such bills.

From what little I’ve heard… probably legal, although “an activist court” could easily rule such expenses to be “personal” and not involving the campaign at all.

an interesting mix of issues if you aren’t a partisan.

          • Hmeyers says:

I read that about an hour ago, haha.

What’s funnier is that it seems to be completely legal according to the DC swamp laws.

Hillary might have thought of that, but she has a better setup where Clinton Foundation not only pays the bills but since it is a charity it is tax deductible too, unlike campaign funds.

Anyway, the people in power live a by different set of rules. It’s a joke.

I’m not complaining about it, I always said feudalism will return. Europeans have false democracy.

Perhaps with gerrymandering, we do too.

I read yesterday the real problem with gerrymandering is that since no congress reps can lose elections, they have no reason to moderate their views or be bipartisan.

All they have to fear is being primaried by their own party.

          • bobbo, we think with words and flower with Ideas says:

Yes, primaried by more extreme elements. its quite a downward spiral we have constructed for our politics. It doesn’t have to be this bad.

            corporations are not people

            money is not speech.

“Let us return to regular order.”

          • Hmeyers says:

Knowing the problem is a start.
