The violence over Jerusalem is a fight over one religion’s invisible friend vs. another religion’s invisible friend both claiming that their deities gave them land. The truth is that there is no such thing as god(s) and Jerusalem is just another piece of dirt just like any other location on this planet. The violence and death this week following the ill conceived decision to move America’s embassy to Jerusalem reflects poorly on both the Israelis and Palestinians.
This is the 21st century and it’s time that we put to rest the ideas of old primitive religions and property claims attributed to deities. God did not give holy land to anyone and no nation has any more of a right to exist than any other nation. The time has come come that humanity lay down our weapons and come together to figure out how to live together in peace, live in harmony with Reality, and to take care of our common space ship, planet Earth, so that with every generation our future will always be better than our past.

Atheist here. We don’t spend our time thinking about religion or supernatural beings. What we do think about is how religious types try controlling our lives with their irrational nonsense.
My atheist best friend never misses a chance to proclaim his adherence to atheism.
Conversely I never miss a chance to tell him I could give a shit what religion he clings to.
I am an athiest as well, and I avoid the subject with everyone unless directly asked what faith I am a part of. I don’t belittle religious people or rub my lack of belief in their faces. Most athiests I know keep their lack of religion to themselves. I don’t waste my time obsessing about religion, but I have studied enough in university to understand most religions, their histories, and adherences. I am curious about the human condition and why the world is the way it is…..religion is a huge part of it.

To be honest I lean more towards the Directed Panspermia theory. So most people just avoid me.
Neither is correct; both have very narrow, ineffective, and unholy attitudes. If the land is so “special” to one group that group should understand how it might be “special” to another group. Truly holy and righteous people would find a way to accommodate both groups in the place both view as uniquely special

Nope. The Koran says Israel belongs to the Jews. The fight is over Jew hatred, with certain Muslims elevating Jerusalem to a city of religious importance just to stick it to the Jews. They did the same in India building a mosque on a site of an important temple.
I identify as Realist – not atheist. But the reality is there is no gods. My focus is on what does exist and not what doesn’t.
