This explains perfectly why Microsoft will never be as cool as Apple.

  1. Dauragon88 says:

Yeah, at least Apple would have used Public Enemy

  2. Gasbag says:

Oh the good old days of DOS 5. When Microsoft don’t have a shit load of money to buy Rolling Stones songs to use in they ads.

  3. Gill Bates says:

Hey, I thought that video way def and even fly! Makes me want to bust a move. Can’t touch this!

  4. Heimdall says:

Well, this and the fact that they don’t smoke nearly as much weed as Ellen Whatshername.

  5. snoopyjy says:

I would give them 5 bucks… have to admit they even thought back then that you would have no choice but to upgrade and of course that meant money money MONEY!

  6. Steve S says:

Well yeah this video looks pretty lame by today’s standards but back in 1991, it was extremely cool! I mean it!….. Just take my word for it…. You had to be there, alright! Jeesh!

  7. Les says:

Sniff…Sniff I miss it. It was a sort of decent version.

  8. gquaglia says:

This video is the typical buffoonary I have come to expect from M$. Put this in the same camp as the Steve, monkey boy, Balmer dance. M$ is about as cool as a summer day in the rain forest.

  9. OhForTheLoveOf says:

Bill gates busts the dopest rhymes…

Honestly, I’m often nostalgic for the days of DOS… when PCs and the Internet were easier to use and the bonehead to geek ratio online wasn’t so depressing.

  10. Chuck says:

Anybody remember “Don’t Copy That Floppy”?

  11. gquaglia says:

Honestly, I’m often nostalgic for the days of DOS

Are you kidding? There were a lot of ancient OS, for some reason I feel no nostalgia for DOS.

  12. James Hill says:

#7 – After the masterpiece known as DOS 4, I agree.

#9, #11 – I feel nostalgia for the Commodore 64 and Q-Link, the precursor to AOL. Doing things online was easier, and more interesting, and there was new ground to explore. Everything happening today is, in one way or another, a rehash of things done fifteen to twenty years ago.

  13. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#11 – Not DOS per se, but the days of DOS…

    #12 – You obviously understand what I’m saying…

One might say, “You feel me, dog…”

  14. Les says:

I am ALMOST over my nostalga for CP/M
In Johns words “CP/M diehards never die.”

  15. Les says:

Dos 5 was the best version in my opinion. DOS 6’s disk compression was scarey. DOS 4 was, well, DOS 4. DOS 3 only supported 30 meg partitions.

  16. Kballweg says:

I want to know who put that much effort into such a niche spoof.

  17. Peter Jakobs says:

    1991.. hmm..
that puts it 7 years after the Amiga. Think about _that_ for a second.
When I think back to the demos on the Amiga, heck! There was a lot more possible in 1984 than this…
Let’s face it, Microsoft was lame then and you wonder how they got where they are.

Ooo yes, DoubleSpace… I remember being excited to have double my disk space only to lose everything a month later when I got a single bad sector.

  19. BubbaRay says:

Nice production values, but -zzzt- they hyped the wrong product.

DOS — IBM System/360 Models 30 and up. 64K Core RAM! 10 MB HDD! 2401 tape drives! 1401 printers! Selectric operator’s console! An all day system build! Now where did I leave my 029 keypunch machine….

I can’t wait to get all my data off those 2314 cartridges onto a thumb drive!

  20. Keith says:

For some strange reason I just could not turn away from watching this.

  21. ECA says:

anyone try installing a straight DOS system to see HOW WELL it runs on current machines?? How about win3.11

  22. hhopper says:

I’ll bet DOS 5 would run really great on a modern system.

  23. Gary Marks says:

#18 David — Yeah, when MS stole Stac’s “Stacker” technology to make DoubleSpace, they may have forgotten to steal the higher reliability that went with that other product. I used Stacker myself, and doubling my disk space was a HUGE deal, and I never lost any of it.

  24. Gills says:

    I was so stunned i couldn’t stop watching… like a train wreck.
