Making Wordpad the Default

Step-by-step instructions for making Wordpad your default reader. This set of instructions is intended for users of Microsoft Word who wish to minimize the possibility of Macro attacks. |

1. Click on My Computer -- open window 2. Click on VIEW (or TOOLS on newer systems) then FOLDER OPTIONS 3. Click on FILE TYPES tab 4. Scroll down the Registered File Types window until you find "Microsoft Word Document" 5. If you now click REMOVE, then the next time you click on a .DOC file the computer will ask you for a program to open the file. At that time you can specify WordPad from the list you are given. It then becomes the default .DOC reader. Alternatively, you can also go through a process on this window of editing the default program by hand and making it Wordpad. You may also want to consider changing other defaults on this list. |
