Elon Musk has said that there is only a “one in billions” chance that we’re not living in a computer simulation.

Our lives are almost certainly being conducted within an artificial world powered by AI and highly-powered computers, like in The Matrix, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO suggested at a tech conference in California.

Mr Musk, who has donated huge amounts of money to research into the dangers of artificial intelligence, said that he hopes his prediction is true because otherwise it means the world will end.

So my question to Elon would be, are we all in one big computer game, OR am I the only one in it, and YOU people are just annoying avatars in my game. And secondly, where can I find the cheat codes??

  1. Mr Diesel - Go Trump Go!! Beat Hillary Like a Snare Drum says:

Or is Elon Musk just a nut job?

  2. Eddie G says:

They call it fiction for a reason, Elon.

  3. NewFormatSux says:

In his case, Grand Theft Auto.

  4. scandi says:

    Elon thinks he’s Neo, lmao.

  5. Hmeyers says:

It isn’t a new idea or radical.

The idea is that if even one intelligent civilization at some point makes simulations …

… the number of simulated universes will quickly vastly outnumber the real one.

It is also the reason all atheists are by default wrong.

You can’t claim there isn’t a God or a creator if you can’t even prove we aren’t in a simulation. Since one in a simulation cannot have the means of proving or disproving it is a simulation, one cannot disprove the possibility of a there being a creator.

With atheism, that belief system is “I have no reason to believe in a creator” — which the above possibility immediately negates the validity of that idea by calling it into question.

    • McCullough says:

Now you’ve done it…you’ve summoned the annoying avatars.

    • ± says:

      [avatar #1] 😉

Atheism isn’t a belief. It is word which describes a lack of belief in something not known to be true.

You obviously come from the school of people who hold atheism to be a religion. That is silly since atheists aren’t the ones believing in something not known to exist.

      • Hmeyers says:

Atheism is a religion just like all the other religions.

        • ± says:

And you’re proud about it too. Pathetic.

        • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

Well………..whats funny is that Religion tries to denigrate atheism by calling it a religion. Talk about your total lack of recognition.

Kinda like a Mother calling her son a Son of a Bitch. It sounds right….but look at what is being said.

Religion is like that: a Son of a Bitch.

          • Mr Diesel - Go Trump Go!! Beat Hillary Like a Snare Drum says:

I agree with bobbo (please don’t have a coronary).

          • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

The universe is a large and awesome place. Given enough time, almost anything can happen.

            Keep the faith.

  6. IM77 says:

Is this important to you? If so, you will eventually know in your current incarnation that it is indeed reality. If not, it’ll continue to elude you as reality in as many lifetimes as it takes. The question is … and then what?

  7. Ah_Yea says:

Is this a plug for another Matrix movie?? One has to wonder given Elon’s love of cameos. (Avengers…)

    • NewFormatSux says:

Totally botched Civil War by putting the big surprise in the trailer, and adding an extra scene in the movie to let you know it’s coming.

  8. Ah_Yea says:

BTW, Elon may not be wrong. This is a fascinating read!

“There is growing evidence that our universe is a giant hologram.”
    http://motherboard.vice.com/read/there-is-growing-evidence-that-our-universe-is-a-giant-hologram

  9. ± says:

The nut jobs are coming out of the woodwork on this one.

    [rolls-eyes]

  10. bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

…..simulation or not, its the only cartridge we have to play with.

btw………I’ve been interested in VR for decades now. Glad to see it finally here and rather shocked it didn’t come years ago.

But still…..while I’m analysing specs for my VR computer and such, AND turning a spare bedroom from storage into my Holodeck….I still am going to wait for 2.0 Vive to be issued. That will give the programs and hardware more time to develop as well….THEN its too the stars baby.

We live in fascinating times….the tech curve crossing the AGW curve and so forth. ………We coulda been GREAT!!!!

  11. The Arrogant American says:

FYI (Elon), the world WILL end. It’s a provable FACT! However, when that happens, all of us will be dead and none of it (real or simulated) will matter. Therefore, what you do NOW is all that matters! So the question each of us needs to ask is what do we see when we look at assholes like this.

When I look at Elon Musk all I see is a self-indulged arrogant human being trying to liquidate humanity (with his outrageously expensive cars that only other similar assholes can afford), and leave the planet (with his own private space program). What’s worse is that he somehow gets other clueless idiots to idolize him in the process (idiots who seem to be enamored purely by the money). Elon Musk, like so many other arrogant rich people, has the ability to do some real good for his fellow human beings and still offers NOTHING! And spooning out soup at a local soup kitchen is NOT helping — that’s what poor people do!

… At least Bill Gates is trying to improve impoverished African’s who refuse to stop fucking (which creates more people who then put more demands on an already maxed out environment). But Warren Buffet? That’s an even bigger laugh — and he’s definitely NOT alone.

  12. OmegaProject says:

I have been having flashbacks for over 45 years. Whats new here?

  13. Marc Perkel says:

Well, so much for my “Church of Reality” and my registered trademark on the word Reality.

    • NewFormatSux says:

You mean the reality where Bernie loses by millions of votes, you say let’s wait until California results come in, another million vote deficit before California, and after all that Bernie loses by double digits in California? Definition of anti-climactic. Could Bernie at least get his legions together and threaten to primary superdelegates that vote against him?

Might have been different if you had followed up on Hillary’s server.

  14. neil lopez says:

Whoever is playing me definitely has a free account. Ads everywhere!

  15. Jonesy says:

So please answer this honestly. Who here will be comfortable with either Hillary or Trump as President?

At least Sanders is honest, nutty, but honest.

  16. Ya Know says:

The Economy is the most important issue, and the Dumbos don’t have a snowballs chance in hell of improving it.

Not to say he will actually do anything to improve it, but I get nothing from the other team.

    Sad situation.

  17. Ya Know says:

George Soros gives Hillary Campaign 6 Million dollars, is now investing in gold because he see the economy getting ready to tank.

    Brilliant.

    • Phydeau says:

Yes, it’s tough on the economy when Congress spends 8 years attempting to destroy the president in any way possible instead of, ya know, governing, passing laws, working for their money.

      • Jonesy says:

Wait, what????? I thought Liberals are all in agreement that Obama engineered the greatest economic recovery in the hixtory of the United States.

I mean this man single-handedly brought unemployment to historic lows below 5% and Wall Street to record highs, Its a fucking miracle I tells ya!

Do you mean to tell me that was just bullshit?

  18. Phydeau says:

Geez, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. Florida AG decides that it’s not worth prosecuting Trump University fraud right after getting a $25K donation from the Donald. Whatta coincidence!

    http://cbsnews.com/news/ap-fla-ag-sought-trump-money-before-spurning-trump-university-case/

Meanwhile, other state AGs are pressing on with the prosecutions because there’s lots of evidence of wrongdoing.

  19. Phydeau says:

What was taking place in Jupiter was an essential part of Trump’s modus operandi. In every deal, he has to win and you have to lose. He is notorious for refusing to pay full price to contractors and vendors after they’ve completed work for him. And he basically dares the people he has stiffed to sue him, knowing that his deep pockets and bevy of lawyers give him a big advantage over those who feel wronged by him.

    http://nytimes.com/2016/02/27/sports/golf/at-trump-club-in-florida-some-members-want-their-money-back.html

Your Republican hero! See how well he represents the deeply held beliefs of Republicans everywhere.

  20. Phydeau says:

Trump said at first he did not remember the story Tama Starr, the president of Artkraft Strauss, told in a Nov 4 op-ed in the New York Daily News.

She described designing an advertisement in the 1990s for Trump on a billboard her company owned near LaGuardia Airport in New York. According to her account, he liked the work, but when the bill came, he only paid half. She eventually collected the other half when Trump asked for the ad to be displayed for longer than originally expected and sent in money he thought would go toward the extension. Artkraft Strauss instead took the ad down.

After initially saying during Monday’s interview he didn’t remember her, Trump then said he hadn’t wanted to pay the full amount because he was unhappy with the quality of the work.

He hated her billboard design so much he wanted to keep it up longer.

What a bullshitter! Why do you Republicans support this scumbag? Oh right, you’ve been programmed for decades that Hillary is the antichrist. Good luck with that in the election. :/

    • Phydeau says:

Aw, I’ll quit now. Like I said, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. It’s just too easy. Trump is a target-rich environment. 🙂

    • Crooked Hillary says:

That’s nothing, my Billy brags about screwing over 2000 women.

The good news is he only raped about 100 of them.

      • Phydeau says:

        Clinsanity lives! 🙂

        • Crooked Hillary says:

I am tickled pink that you believe my Billy over those lyin’ hussies….Ya’ll are just the best

          • Phydeau says:

Pssst… Bill’s not running any more. Thought you might like to know. 😉

          • Crooked Hillary says:

You’re darned tootin my Billy aint a runnin round no mo. That ole coon hounds a gonna be tied to the porch for the rest of his days.

  21. bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

    Felon Musk.

Evidently….. he’ll fix your car only if you agree to keep it a secret:

A word from a Marine about Trump… why would anyone support him?

  23. Hmeyers says:

Phydouche keeps calling Trump a Republican.

He should sign up with Mitt Romney’s #NeverTrump effort.

A douchebag match made in heaven!

  24. NewFormatSux says:

Imagine Trump as President. The entertainment value of what he’d do! Plus you would have a media that actually served as a check on the government instead of as court stenographers and jesters.

You might even get an impeachment and removal from office, sending a message to future presidents that they should obey the law.

  25. deowll says:

Gezz, I thought everyone knew the multiverse was a computer simulation.

  26. JersyDvl says:

In all fairness, if we WERE in a simulation advanced enough we could never know, not that I believe him.
