CDC Halts Thyroid Study Funding
News from The Associated Press Hmm.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has halted funding for a study on the connection between radioactive fallout and thyroid disease among people living downwind of aboveground atomic bomb tests in Nevada during the 1950s and early 1960s.
The study, which already had cost $8 million, has re-examined about 1,300 former students who lived in southwestern Utah and eastern Nevada, plus a control group of Arizona residents for comparison.

FindForward

FindForward — – A Google API hack worth playing with as a search tool.
Why the name “FindForward”?
I want to emphasize finding as opposed to searching.
Sometimes, it’s possible to skip going through result lists and directly read the answer. If you are forward-thinking — i.e. if you select the right feature from the search selection box — you might be able to get your information faster.

Telus seeks to block Shaw phone service
The Globe and Mail: Telus seeks to block Shaw phone service — We can expect this sort of thing in the USA as VOIP from sources other than the phone company crop up.
The cable-telephone wars started in earnest yesterday when Telus Corp. filed an application requesting rival Shaw Communications Inc. stop marketing or offering local phone service until it provides evidence that it’s complying with telecommunications regulations.
Telus, the largest phone company in western Canada, said Shaw launched its Internet-based phone service over its cable system last month before meeting all of the obligations for competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs).
