Forgive me, I don’t mean to be a kill-joy, and I’m DEFINITELY no fan of the Bush’s… but is anyone else getting as WEARY of political humor as I am these days?

…as if having Al Gore, or John Kerry, or ANYONE else in Washington, was going to somehow improve the lot of these flood victims… oh, please…

I hope you caught The Daily Show on Comedy Central last night (9/7/05). It was a must see. I think you can replay some of the video. Very funny, too bad its all too real.

  3. Dave says:

Not tired of political humor. Just politicians.

  4. Sean Hickey says:

    That’s pretty funny.

Too bad this administration has trumpeted how their #1 job is to make America safer, and on spewing Homeland Security money far & wide so we would be prepared to respond to the next terrorist attack.

We’re days away from the 4th anniversary of 9/11, and this is how prepared we are – when we had days to plan a response. 🙁

I would say that, yes, having ANYONE else in Washington would have made a difference, even other Republicans, given the gross incompetence we’ve seen. At the very least we probably wouldn’t have the top three people appointed to FEMA being completely unqualified political cronies, and therefore some semblance of a timely response, or at the very least not have FEMA turn back aid to the region over and over again. Would a large number of people still have died? Yes. Would most of New Orleans still be destroyed? Yes. But the gross incompetence has made the disaster much worse than it needed to be, and to that I say having ANYONE else in Washington would damn well have made a difference.

Compare Al Gore helping out while deliberately keeping it low key to not have it appear political to Bush having fully trained rescue workers assigned to the all important mission of following him around to look good for the cameras. But as I said, even most other Republicans would probably have done a better job than this.

All the Bush haters probably hope that they eat that toxic fish

Like Bush or not, the best chance to focus energies now is to stop the political bickering for a few months and attend to the disaster instead. The votes don’t exist to impeach him for anything, so the only choice pro or con Bush voters have is to work though the current admin right now.

  9. meetsy says:

Uhhh, we don’t have a chief justice….so, how could he be impeached? And, by putting the new (i.e. grateful) guy in as head justice then, I don’t see how any impeachment could happen.
Meanwhile…..isn’t the massive loss of life and slow actions a greater faux pas than a bj from Monica? I’m sorry….but, I’m just confused.

  10. Darrell Stymiest says:

If someone else was in the White House:

Bill Clinton: He would “feel their pain”

Bush (41): He would send thousands upon thousands of rescuers but then stop them short of actually entering New Orleans

Perot: He would be on Larry King with hundreds of charts detailing what was wrong but offering no solution.

Kerry: He would claim that he went to New Orleans to see the damage and was injured in the process (when he was actually home the whole time).

Bottom line: The only thing that a politian is good for is the humor.

  11. Greg Gauthier says:

“…I say having ANYONE else in Washington would damn well have made a difference…”

    NOT.

This fish is rotten. Not just the head, but the whole fish – and it has been for many decades. You’re a fool if you think wrapping that fish in fresh newspaper will make it smell better.

  12. James Hill says:

Mike, what else can the left do besides bicker? They have no leadership, and ran out of tact years ago.

I’ve never liked the idea of the “loyal minority” used in British politics, but our disloyal minority is much, much worse.

  13. Mike Cannali says:

Clinton wasn’t impeached because he got a little on the side (or in his case from below). More power to him if he can keep the ladies interested – and it should never have been a public matter in the first place. Clinton was tried for impeachment because he lied to a grand jury. Nixon was essentially in the same bucket.

You can’t impeach a President because he is unpopular or even because his is ineffective. Has to do something wrong. Something – that is not a matter of debate – but “High Crimes and Misdemeanors” that can be proven.

At any rate – he is here for 2 more years because it would take that long for the bureauracy to respond. They are, after all, tied up in a massive recovery effort that should take precidence.

And the focus should be on that effort, and creating a long term solution so it never happens again.

  14. Mike Voice says:

And the focus should be on that effort, and creating a long term solution so it never happens again.

    I strongly agree.

But I’m cynical enough to worry that this will just result in another “commision” which will hold hearings and make fine-sounding recommendations for “co-ordinating the Federal response” – e.g. the Department of Homeland Security, and the Transportation Security Administration.

Department of Homeland Disasters, here we come. 🙁

  15. Mike Voice says:

    On a whimsical note.

We could keep the “HUD” acromnym, but change it from:

Department of Housing and Urban Development

    to

    Department of Homeland Urban Disasters.

with Assistant Secretaries for “Natural” and “Man-made” disasters.
