From Craigslist’s system status page:
We’ve been hearing problems of slowness or inability to connect craigslist.
Authentium has acknowledged that their security software is blocking access to craigslist. No ETA from them on a fix, but we’ll update this page as we hear more.
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but why in the world would a computer security company block access to a classified ad site?! There is something strange going on here. It should be noted that Authentium creates security suites for ISPs. Is there some reason why ISPs would want to block Craigslist?
Its a bit suspiscious, as has been said, what possible reason?
Perhaps a nice big cheque from google….?
Let me fly off topic a wee bit, and say to security companies everywhere “your junk does not stop me or any one with a modecome of knowhow from doing anything. All security software does is keep honest people and newbies from using the products they already own. Does anybody think your run of the mill hacker is blocked from going anywhere despite any security software?” We now return you to your thread in progress…
I can confirm this – I haven’t been able to gain access to craigslist for a couple of weeks now – but I can gain access to ANY OTHER website.
The Authentium folks have confirmed that they have a bug, and it’s taking them a while to fix it.
