The image appeared at the 4th Street underpass in San Francisco. I’ve seen this Kennedy-like image before. But who is doing this and what does it represent? Reader input appreciated.

  1. Don Marsh says:

It also looks like Jack Kemp. Maybe it’s an Enterprise Zone. 🙂

  2. RTaylor says:

It’s interesting to watch a mortal man become a legend over a few decades. I’m not taking away from the man, but Theodore H. White and Jackie’s spinning had as much to do with the legend than fact. People were more concerned with fashion than substance.

  3. Max says:

Agreed – What’s funny is – here’s a man immortalized for his “vision” as a democrat. Once you review his policies, he would have been labeled a conservative in this day and age.

Love that JFK – so did the ladies! Let’s start a list here… I’ll begin! Marylin Monroe…

  4. Eideard says:

It looks like Joe Piscopo. Before steroids.

  5. BobH says:

Let’s not lose sight of some facts:

Cook County, IL – the voters may have spoken but not as effectively as the Daley machine which made sure Jack got enough votes to win the state and thus the election. Florida was by far not the first rigged election in modern times.

Joe Kennedy amassed the Kennedy fortune during prohibition importing spirits illegally. Hopefully no one is so naive as to believe he was not associated with the other successful parties flaunting the law of the land.

Nepotism be thy name, Jack… brother Robert as Attorney General is interesting considering Bobby was also once a part of the McCarthy team; albeit no doubt more politically motivated than actually seeing Red. In RFK’s defense, he did eventually realize “Tailgunner Joe” was largely a fraud.

As to womanizing, I’d wager Jack was not the first to enjoy the penile perks of high office. It’s not clear there is any damage done by dalliance except to the marriage vows. And that is none of anyone’s business but the parties involved. Certainly the matter should not rise to catch the eye of the Senate and Congress.

As well, young Jack was not averse to exploring nefarious means to bring about leadership change in Cuba and Viet Nam. Said Kennedy tactics included approving assassination. While not necessarily pertinent to what happened in Dallas, dead presidents are dead presidents and perhaps there is a moral to the story.

This leaves substance vs style. Jack Kennedy gets serious points for media savvy. Johnson – forever stained by his getting on the McNamara bandwagon – actually got the real work done of turning vision into reality. The question remains: was the Kennedy legislative legacy of lasting importance? Lofty liberal goals were achieved — but here we are in 2006 and how much of what happens on the street is a result of the JFK way rather than an inevitable evolution in a nation of diverse people striving to find ways to succeed? That’s the issue and until it’s answered, the deification of John F Kennedy is premature.

  6. David says:

    Long live Piscopo!

  7. Deuce says:

it was JFK’s birthday on Monday. maybe that is why it appeared.

  8. Anon says:

Maybe the editor saw the works of the same artist? It’s not a meme I recognize, perhaps it is still localized or underground.

  9. These things usually related to a rock group or some such thing. But what? A reader MUST know.

  10. Looks like a Banksy copy. http://www.banksy.co.uk/ a UK grafitti artist that uses stencils and has created a huge stir recently. I have been to a showing of his works in a gallery in the UK. But it has been moving across the pond in the last year with more and more artists using stencils witin their grafitti.

  11. Chris says:

This appears to be a sticker and in some European cities the Graffiti community has moved into the digial age by making stickers in mass amounts and “Tagging” high traffic areas. Usually they are politically charged (as this may seem to be). My information comes from “Print” magazene, an international graphic design publication that is printed bi-monthly.

  12. Angel H. Wong says:

Looks like JFK wants to offer a BJ (see the lump on his left cheek)

  13. James Hill says:

    @ #1

You may not have liked his policies, or the man, but to say that Reagan did not have vision or goals shows a lack knowledge on your part.

  14. Angel! Go to your room!

  15. Andy says:

If it is band-related, possibly The Dead Kennedys? http://www.deadkennedys.com/

  16. leo says:

looks very ominous… with the dark eyes and all.
    creepy if you ask me.

  17. Mark T. says:

What is that symbol on his left lapel?

Definitely creepy. The dark around the eyes and the frown make him look tired and depressed.

  18. Floyd says:

This Kennedy poster/sticker/whatever reminds me of the “OBEY” posters and stickers with Andre’ the Giant’s face on them. Some of you probably know Andre’ as Fezzik in “The Princess Bride,” but he was a pro wrestler for many years.

    The original artist”s website:

  19. joshua says:

Mark t…..all the pictures i ever saw of Kennedy, he did look tired and depressed..
He always seems to have had the dark circles under his eyes and his pallor wasn’t to great either unless he got out into the sun.

Kennedy was never a Liberal as we know them today. In fact, he probably couldn’t get elected Senator from Mass. these days. He would be about what a Liberal Republican would be on the spectrum these days.

If he would even be allowed into the Democratic party today isn’t all that sure. He was very pro defense, and very aggressive foriegn policy. Then there were the assination attempts on Castro.

  20. Kevin says:

I thought it was a stencil, but it looks like a wheatpasting, not paint. Good street art either way. I wish there was a better pic so we could see what is on his left shoulder.

  21. Reinaldo says:

I loved as much as you will receive carried out right here.
The sketch is attractive, your authored material stylish.
nonetheless, you command get got an edginess over that you wish
be delivering the following. unwell unquestionably come further formerly again as exactly the same
