Yahoo News Captions Obama Photo With Name “Osama” | TPMCafe

Oh, man — first CNN, now Yahoo News. As you know, CNN has apologized to Barack Obama for putting his name on a picture of Osama Bin Laden. Now Yahoo News has committed the opposite blunder: On their photo page, the caption on their photo of Obama reads, “Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida.”

  1. Raff says:

His middle name is Hussein.. are they associating him with Saddam as well?

  2. gquaglia says:

Just one of the reasons this man will never be president. The others are he is black, he is inexperienced and most importantly he can’t beat Hillary.

  3. Mark says:

Thats what happens when your educated in New Mexico.

    (Actually I love NM).

  4. Mucous says:

I’d blame simple incompetence before conspiracy.

  5. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

    3: That’s too easy. 😉

  6. Tom 2 says:

He could beat Hillary, he could become president, and this conspiracy proves that, because they wouldn’t have taken the time if they didn’t think he could become president, or it could just be a conspiracy. But this is a drop in the water, because I think people know him more for his best selling book “The Audacity of Hope”, which is still top 3 on Amazon. Number 1 on New Yorks Best Seller, 7th on USA todays, anyway you get the point.

  7. Big A says:

I think the real reason this keeps on happening is because people know that they’ll get on “” by screwing up what-his-names name.

  8. David says:

Typo, my ass. How many times did we say that “typo” before Barack entered the national spotlight?

And let’s not forget CNN ran a hit piece comparing Obama to President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad based on a shirt he was wearing.

  9. asdfasdf says:

    off topic…

speaking of Husseins…. Anyone catch this article:

The boy hung himself after seeing the Saddam hanging on the news….

    seems like material.

  10. Rob says:

There is no way Obama will get nominated. The GOP does not have an absolute exclusive on bigotry. If it looks like he has a chance, expect another glorious Lee Oswald moment.

  11. asdfasdf says:

pedro, the ARTICLE, not the kid.

  12. Reality says:

It’s an easy mistake to make with such similar names. Remember…it’s newspaper people who end up screwing up wedding annoucements and obituaries.

  13. #9 — Yes it does look almost like bloggable material ..but the story is a little thin seems to me. And we try to thematically point out the foibles of adults, not kids who seem kind of pathetic. If it was an evil kid it would be better fodder for us. This is just sad..

  14. David says:

#10 — Did you see the recent Newsweek poll that found 93% of registered voters would be willing to support a black candidate? It’s only a Newsweek poll, but still, maybe you should have a little more faith in the modern electorate.

  15. Awake says:

There is a good chance that these are not typos, but intentional misspellings by right leaning writers trying to be ‘cute’. Most typos are either grammatical (and caught by spell checkers), or adjacent letter typos, where you hit a letter in close proximity to the one that you intended.

It’s not a conspiracy, but there are enough randomly placed news writers with right-wing leanings that this type of ‘cute’ joke is bound to show up… I just hope that their managers recognize it for waht it is (intentional) and fire the jerks.

  16. Spencer says:

There is a clear pattern here. None of these instances are mistakes.

Let’s not forget the right-wing commentator Debbie Schlussel who, in her December 18 column, asked if Obama’s loyalties were with the US or with extremist Islamists. Clearly the right-wingers are trying to associate him with Islamist extremists.

  17. ME says:

It’s all simple. Bigotry, idiots. I laugh at those who thinks racism doesn’t exist in America or any where else for that matter. The plain field is not level nor will it ever be. This country will first fall apart before it happens.
Now, let me go merry way and suck on that little bone they threw me thinking that every is ok.

  18. OhForTheLoveOf says:

    #20 – Yes

CNN is only left wing if you are a die hard Fox viewer… It’s just news if you are a rational, normal person… Like traditional conservatives, moderates, and mainstream liberals and me. If you are in the loony liberal camp, CNN is FOX…

If you are in the loony camp, Bob and Tom is FOX….

  19. spsffan says:

It’s an abomination I tells ya!

  20. joshua says:

#9….I’ll donate to send his body back to Guatamala, but only if his entire family accompany him, don’t come back and don’t file for Social Security benifits.

This slow down cowboy crap needs to end.

  21. Booya says:

That’s mean. You are talking about a 10 year old kid. Don’t be a hearless hater.

  22. Booya says:

    …or a heartless hater either.

  23. Mr. Fusion says:

I say accident by someone smoking something other then Luckies at break. Unintentional and the kind of thing where an explanation is required by a bunch of people to higher ups, even if the public never hears about it.

  24. JimS says:

The Dream Ticket for 08, Powell/Obama.

  25. Timbo says:

Hillary is so bad off in the polls the Democrat media need to smear all congressmen, billionaires and religious leaders to prepare the voters to vote for Hillary. When you have the media locked up, you can manipulate the votes like that.

  26. Mr. Fusion says:

    #31, Timbo

How the “F” do you look in the mirror? Your right wing nut diatribe against Hillary is so ridiculous it isn’t even funny. Get a life and quit inhaling the incense man, it’ll give you brain damage.
