Children are no longer welcome at Walt Disney World’s swankiest restaurant.

Victoria and Albert’s in the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa says children under ten years old are no longer welcome.

The restaurant’s general manager says based on research and feedback, it was the right move to make for a better dining experience for adults.

I think this is an excellent move. There’s nothing like having a special dining experience ruined by screaming, unruly kids. There are ‘family’ restaurants and there are ‘adult’ restaurants.

I’m sorry but I agree with most of you old sods here… I’m in my mid 20’s now and I was a bastard of a brat that got dragged to the curb if I acted up. In the UK you’re not forced to put up with my smoking, why hell do I have to put with the fact you’re a bad parent? Oh but smoke harms people… tell my bloody eardrums that!

Why cant there be smoking and non smoking pubs? you know… give people an active choice? Why? because the morons in control have deemed the general populace unable to look after themselves, possibly rightly so considering that not only are they not willing to take responsibility for their own well being but FEWER people are willing to take responsibility of their kids!

    Its rock music…
    its marlyn manson…
its adult rated films (duh! – stop buying them for timmy then)
its adult video games… (same as above)
    its the internet..

It’s NONE of the above, its because parents dont want to take the blame for the fact they wanted the kids without the extra baggage of ACTUALLY looking after them.

Jesus christ people why cant you take a moment to question your own behaviour and possibly consider that little timmy is NOT the little angel that you think he is? That the reason he decided to shoot up the school was because YOU were the bad parent YOU were too busy having a social life ignoring your brethren. YOU were not taking responsibility and YOU were too SCARED to take responsibility for others due to repercussions through white middle class political correctness?

Even if MM did tell timmy to do it… Didnt your mother ask you that if “Dave jumped off the bridge would you do it too?”

If it were up to me I’d also ban kids off the internet if it wasn’t for the fact I know some mature kids exist..

I think banning kids from the restaurant is a little extreme… but I think that’s only because the manager doesn’t want the PC hassle and law suits selectively kicking out abusive kids and/or parents.

    I don’t hate kids, I hate parents.

As far as I’m concerned, the little brats could have the whole world if they would just stay the fuck out of Starbucks.

Remember when Starbucks was an oasis of peace and calm in the city? Now many of them (especially in the ‘burbs) have the atmosphere of a daycare center.

    #11 above (Cursor_) said:

“So for the kids that can behave themselves and have been raised as foodies by foodie parents, they are banned.

That is my child. My son is destined to be a foodie himself. He’s only 7 now, but has been going to every kind of restaurant since he was a baby. He’s ordered his own meal (spoken appropriately to the server) since he was 4. He is polite, well behaved, has NEVER left his chair, run around the place, screamed, or even made a fuss and is upset by children that do. He has always understood that we are there to eat and enjoy our meal. His tastes run from the ordinary (good ol’ fashioned kids meal chicken fingers) to the sublime (he recently ordered and devoured the fabulous portabella ravioli in browned butter with truffle oil at Figlio’s here in Columbus). I would have no problem taking him to a place like Victoria and Albert’s. He would relish the experience.

Kids should come with duct tape. You should be allowed to throw silverware at parents that can’t control their kids and talk loud on the cell phone.

  5. Cursor_ says:

Ok for all the yutzes out there.

    Walt Disney World

    What is it?

    A family-themed vacation destination.

That means a FAMILY goes there. With kids and parents.

So the kids go with the parents. Its Disney, that is why they are there.

If you want to leave the kids at home and go somewhere as adults try Hedonism or Sandals or a fucking non Disney Cruise Lines or Carnival Cruise!

Go Holland America or Norwegian or Crystal. But stay the fuck away from RCCL, Carnival and DCL!

These are all places for KIDS and their FAMILY. If WDW has a fucking restaurant in it, better get ready for the kids to come too.

It is the total antithesis of reason, logic and what Walt had in mind.

If you want adult fare, get a babysitter or hand them to the grands and go to Sandals for a weekend. Drink shots out of each other’s bellybuttons and tap that booty! That is a resort for adults. If you go to Dizznee, expect its for the KIDS and not for adults that are stuck up old farts!

Fuck me people, its not rocket science here.

  6. Richard says:

Umm #39. I am an adult, who has a wonderful 5 yr old daughter that I took to WDW last year and will take again this year. That said, I have no problem with this. WDW is huge and has a veritable TON of places a kid is welcome. If they want a few fine dining spots to be adult only so parents can get a breather then so be it.

Remember we aren’t all Chevy Chase in Ntl Lampoons, wanting to spend every waking minute with our entire family, even he took a shot at romance time with his wife. Disney does have child sitting services at most hotels and resorts so you can catch some quiet alone time. So if Disney takes 3 or 4 places and makes them adults only out of the hundred or so restaurants on property it shouldn’t be an issue. Hell there are places to eat on their property that have a dress code too.

  7. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

    Exactly, Richard.

Your self-serving definition there is bullshit, _Cursor_.

As I mentioned pointedly to Meetsy – the place is a theme park, yes. But it is ALSO a VACATION RESORT. And, just like real fucking life, it is NOT “ALL” for family.

    “A family-themed vacation destination.”

No it isn’t. MUCH of it is traditional-family-oriented.

Disney, unlike you, recognizes the diminishing influence of the traditional nuclear family and also realizes that there is plenty of money to be made off of nontraditional “family” demos such as DINKs – Dual Income, No Kids. That’s ALSO A FAMILY, thank you.

“That means a FAMILY goes there. With kids and parents.”

“Gee, Mrs. Cleaver, that sure is a nice dress.” Time to leave off the “Leave It In Your Beaver” reruns. The definition of family is different today, and the multibillion-dollar Disney conglomerate recognizes that. You should too.

  8. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

as another way to look at it, perhaps more readily understandable to the young and ‘prejudice-free’:

People who do not have or can not have children are not second-class citizens, to be subjected to bigoted, discriminatory practices. Disney has officially recognized the equal rights of families without children and single people to live their lives as they see fit and not according to the prejudices of the unenlightened past. They further wish be proactively inclusive and to empower and support them by recognizing and respecting their chosen lifestyle.

Still wanna force kids down our throats, you judgmental bigots? 😛

  9. hhopper says:

Geez, you’re so coherent 3HC. Don’t you ever get tired of arguing with ‘not so bright’ people?

  10. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

I really don’t do it to convince anyone, Hop. If anyone is persuaded, wonderful, but I don’t expect it. I just like to stay in practice. 🙂

  11. meetsy says:

three headed cat…I LOATH Disneyworld….so, perhaps during my visit I was too unnerved by the nonsense of the place and the feeling that it would have been the way the whole world was if the Nazi’s had won WW2. Everything from architecture to the lack of wildlife, to the “cast members” was creepy. Mickey’s image on everything and everything (light posts for godsakes???) had me within an inch of going postal.
So, ummm, no. I wouldn’t seek out a restaurant on the “land”. Nor would I EVER go to anyplace in Celebration. It’s enough to turn my stomach.
AS for some of these lame comments about banning all kids from all restaurants…..umm, yeah, that will be just GREAT when they grow up and not know how to act (which I suspect from some of these posters). Parents need to parent, and restaurant managers need to be in charge. If a kid is fine, then they are fine. If they aren’t….then they should be escorted out, JUST LIKE ADULT BOZOS.

  12. suprawes says:

Grand Floridian is not the place to stay if you have kids anyway. Its a place for older people. This is not in one of the parks its one of the hotels that Disney owns thats on the property.

  13. whizkidforte says:

Thanks for making the dream of childless individuals and couples and adults who can’t stand unruly kids in the restaurants come true, Disney, and I’m proud to have lived an hour from the World!
