A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon. County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections “has become a black hole” because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office. Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud “Excuse me!” He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a “white hole.”

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy. Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster’s, is perhaps “the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape.” Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

Oh Brother…will this madness ever end? My five year old nephew knows what a black hole is. I guess bobbo will defend this too.

As I said in the “men at work” thread, people who are looking to be offended will always find something to get offended over. It’s truly sad that this is what this country has become.

  2. joaoPT says:

This means I can’t use the term “whitewash” any more? What about “Candid Lie”, or even “Blank shells”…they all mean white.Gimme a break. Political Correctness is all very fine, but there are things embedded in our language that have such a distant meaning from the apparent race or gender insult that there shouldn’t even be an issue.

  3. Eric says:

As a Native American who is sensitive to how language can affect racial tensions, all I can say is:

    ROTFLMAO!!!!!! OMG!!!!!

  4. Greg says:

It doesn’t take much for John Wiley Price is be offended! This proves it!

  5. bac says:

I wonder what would happen if someone said “Without the lights, it is pitch black in here.”

Or “Wow, look at that nice black car.”

Some people are just too sensitive to live.

  6. xwing says:

They REALLY should rename them African American holes. I mean ‘black holes’ is really a racist name, when you think about…um, no wait.

  7. Ah_Yea says:

I’m sure glad he didn’t say the paperwork got caught by a white dwarf or red giant…

  8. Kim Helliwell says:

Time for this quote (wish I knew who said it):

Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Just take this Price guy outside and shoot him.

    As opposite to N****r pucker?

  11. Jeff says:

He might actually be on to something. Paper work usually gets lost because of too much junk. A black hole and a white hole are are pretty much the reverse of each other.

  12. apeguero says:

That’s what this country gets by letting the Political Correctness crowd run this country. I agree with some political correctness where, it actually used to be called decency where one would have consideration of their fellow human before calling them out by some racial slur or homophobic term but this is too much. As a matter of fact, I’ve called some African Americans that and they’ve said to me they’re not from Africa, they’re black Americans. I’ve called some Black only to notice that the term may have offended them. What exactly is the right term to use these days? Oh, and it just shows how f’ing stupid this Wiley Price character is by not knowing what a black whole is. Watch, the political correctness paranoid leftists out there are going to introduce a new term for a black whole with something totally stupid.

Hey McCullough, thanks for the picture man. I always thought of looking for this pic on the web so I can use it in some of my emails to some people I work with and friends 🙂

Two things…..(its not what you think)

When people get niggardly with their words…are book burnings soon to follow?

Also why don’t we have a sports team named the White Skins?

  14. chuck says:

Just call them Freedom holes instead.
    Problem solved.

    You’re welcome.

  15. Special Ed says:

Damn those knee grows are sensitive. And they are not really black, some are brown and I’ve even seen some orange ones. I guess colored is not PC although it is descriptively correct.

  16. Jägermeister says:

John Wiley Price is an ignorant asshole. Or should that have been referred to as brown hole? Idiocracy… here we come.

  17. Glenn E. says:

They should blame the mostly white astro-physicists for inventing the term. The term is an oxymoron anyway. Black Holes have no color. It’s a total absence of light, at their event horizon, that distinguishes them. But space itself is nearly as black. And unseen matter and energy in space has recently been dubbed as Dark Matter and Dark Energy, not black matter or black energy.

Black Holes are super intense gravity wells, or singularities, that are neither black or a hole. A “hole” implies a passage or opening into something else. We don’t know that BHs lead anywhere or into anything. A gravitation singularity only leads into itself. The more correct term might be “Gravity Abyss”. I doubt that’ll offend anyone. Now why couldn’t the physicists think of that?

The City of Dallas should be embarrassed to have the likes of John Wiley Price be associated with them. I think that John Wiley Price should resign immediately to save the city any further embarrassment.

  20. Jägermeister says:

    #18 – Glenn E. – It’s a total absence of light…

And what color is something that absorbs light? I guess you have to a racist pig to answer that one, right?!

  21. deowll says:

Take it easy. I’m sure after his wife gets through explaining to him just how much he embarressed her by his show of ignorance on tv to him he’ll understand.

  22. MikeN says:

Sounds like a typical liberal. They blamed as racist, remarks by John Rocker too. At least Rush Limbaugh was referring to race when he was pilloried for his (nonracist)statements on Donovan McNabb

  23. JPV says:

They probably heard it a black HOES.

  24. Brock says:

Any Semi-literate person understands what a black hole is. This proves John Wiley Price of Dallas is not Semi Literate. Unfortunately, he’s been a nuisance presence on the political scene for decades.

What is sad is that many in non-spanish, non-white, non-asian, non-native american take this fool seriously. And best I can tell, he has accomplished exactly zero over those decades.

  25. Hmeyers says:

    #15 for the win!

  26. Mark T. says:

John Wiley Price has been an embarrassment for the City of Dallas for a couple of decades now. He rose to power through a long series of race related tirades and homespun race wars. His favorite tool has always been the bullhorn.

After years of annoying protests and “civil disobedience”, he finally rose into the upper ranks of the Dallas City Council and, since then, he has become somewhat more civilized. However, he is always quick to play the race card and feign outrage at even the most dubious of perceived racial slights (as in this “black hole” incident).

I still have this mental picture of one of his former protests. He was demanding something at the Parkland, the Dallas County hospital. He was leading a protest where he intentionally walked back and forth across an intersection wearing garish skin tight spandex gym suit yelling into a bullhorn and walking in baby steps. It took him several minutes to cross the intersection at which point he would turn around and do it again, over and over. With all the other people he had whipped into a rage marching along side him, they stopped all traffic around the hospital for days until he got what he wanted.

He thinks he is a crusader for black justice in Dallas but he is best at driving a wedge between the races in Dallas. He is a divider, not a uniter.

His power must be waning these days because Dallas now has more Hispanics than blacks and whites are now in the minority. How times change.
