Michio Hoshino, a photographer known for his pictures of bears and other wildlife, was mauled to death by a brown bear on the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Russia. He was in his mid-40′s and lived in Fairbanks, Alaska.

This is the last photo he took.

Alaskan Brown and Grizzly…here’s what the Alaska Department of Fish and Game says: Technically, brown and grizzly bears are classified as the same species, Ursus arctos.

Is there a way to fix this obnoxious behavior by wordpress? Seems like that would be less work than typing Please drop the WWW from URLs as WordPress doesn’t display it properly… plus it’s unnecessary. – ed. 40 times a week.

BESIDES WHICH, not to point out the obvious, that “www.myurl.com” most assuredly does NOT point to the same place as “myurl.com”. They are two separate namespaces. Granted, most of the time, either will get you there, but that isn’t necessarily the case. Sending traffic from “myurl.com” to “www.myurl.com” requires either setting it up that way in the nameserver or creating a redirect page.

[Ever heard of cut and paste? - ed.]

When this first started popping up, I said the same thing or nearly. I think I suggested it ought to be easier to change the way a piece of software works than to try to change the ingrained habits of a bunch of geeks. But, actually, it’s worse than that. We aren’t typing the durned things in, we are cutting and pasting. So, apparently, Firefox doesn’t realize it is unnecessary, either.

WordPress: You’ll do it our way and LIKE it!

Now that you mention it, I should admit that I have been posting hateful crap on the interweb (and before that BBS’s) for so long that I have already responded to every possible thing that has/can/will be posted. I keep my responses in a big database and I can cut and paste my old responses with only two or three keystrokes, as appropriate.

    Including this response. (#, 8.)
