… then don’t go there? Works for me.
no worse than normal EULA agreements I’ve seen. This would never hold up as in court if they tried to exercise that anywhere close to the powers enumerated.
Certainly looks like a black and white issue. (ooops, is that racist?)
The government that created this site is “just stupid or evil”.
What other possibility is there?
It doesn’t matter who the president is… the government is still evil as hell.
#2 anon said: no worse than normal EULA agreements I’ve seen.
OK, I’ll bite. Give us an example of a normal EULA that says: “the user consents to interception, monitoring, auditing, and disclosure at the descretion of DoT personnel”
Remember the underhanded activities government did to Joe, the Plumber? and he didn’t even sign a EULA.
As Glen noted, whatever that reported screen was, it doesn’t seem to be there any more. It wouldn’t pull up for him, and it won’t pull up on a quiet Sunday morning, here.
They may have been going balistic about a screen that didn’t/doesn’t apply?
“authorized officials of other agencies, both domestic and foreign.”
So, officials of other governments could access this? Like Saudi torture squads if you’re picked up for not getting your mandatory flu shot and shipped off for extraordinary rendition?
“How about a jolt of electricity from the battery of the 1987 Chevy you referenced in your visit to cars.gov!” ZZZZZZAPPP!
…a government by the people and for the people…
Har..
I never watch Fox News but, after seeing this clip, I think I’ve become a fan of Kimberley Guilfoyle. If you watch with the sound turned off she’s lovely!
Evidently they are unaware of my EPLA (End Provider Licensing Agreement) that states that any website I visit grants me the ownership of said site and thus the right to use/abuse their service in any way I see fit with total immunity to any law ever made. Al may have invented it but I pwn it.
#6 Buzz couldn’t find the screen.
The EULA screen is still up and running.
Wow… Glenn Beck is still on drugs and the Fox News educated idiots on this site dances to his tune.
Absolutely amazing to read the apologists for the Obama Administration here. 4 out of 5 don’t see any problem whatsoever.
Hey! Lib suck faces! Imagine, go back, imagine this was Cheney! THEN WHAT DO YOU SAY????
The Eula is onerous and needs to be changed. Dealer’s need to log into this to get the Cash For Clunkers deals. The way this reads is that any file on your computer can be copied and searched by law enforcement. Geesh!
Gosh, months after I stopped watching Glen Beck because he is a raving nutbag, he turns over this nugget? S*&t==now I can’t immediately dismiss him. Maybe Obama is a racist?
#12 How about some facts to disprove the story?
#13:
Exactly. If this were a Bush administration program, arms would be flailing. And rightly so.
But when it’s Obama’s gov’t it’s all, ‘well, this is just like Amazon’s EULA! stfu!’
Wasn’t Glen Beck one of the idiots who said that waterboarding wasn’t torture. He said that he would consent to it. Still haven’t seen that. What a dope. I wouldn’t log on there either, but who would think that you could log onto any “Dot Gov.” web site and not be tracked in some way.
I believe that this waiver also says” When logged on to the CARS system…”. It does not say that they are downloading your computer and checking it for the porn your looking at while waiting for customers. Remember, the folks logging into this system are going there for government handouts. Do you think they should remain invisible as they are interfacing with government ATM’s. IT’s always nice to have it both ways though.

Did you click the link?
doesn’t sound any different than M$’s EULA…
Hmm, I read “When logged on to the CARS system, your computer…” The way I read it, when I am logged off, my computer isn’t part of the Federal computer system. I guess Uncle Sam should open up its doors on the basis of anonymity, and if this site, or any other, gets hacked, then people are screaming on how this could happen.
What is the fix, you got me. I do know you can’t have it both ways. Although this is another shining example of people reading what they want to and not what is being said.
This waiver was obviously written-up by a gov. beaurocrat who has nothing to do with Obama. He or she is just doing his job and trying to cover the gov’s rear end in the event that someone tries to raid the bank and they have to go after them. Obviously to prevent fraud. That’s called oversite… I know, it’s a new thing.
Glen Beck was pissed that the ” Cars for Clunkers” program was so successful even after it was weekened so much by the restrictive mileage requirements.

you voted for transparency
whelp, you got it
Still no one here who can verify this crap exists. Or ever existed.
You don’t need transparency when all the Republicans can offer is lies and deceit.
Since no one has bothered to read up on this issue I’ll explain it:
The site that features this EULA is the DEALER LOGIN for this system. Dealers use it to access the national database of vehicle information numbers (VIN). This database is maintained by the government and for limited use by car salesmen only, so it makes sense that it would feature a legally frightening EULA. It’s like walking on to a military base where technically you can be stopped and searched at any time.
THIS EULA DOES NOT APPEAR *ANYWHERE* ON THE CONSUMER AREA OF CARS.GOV!
Congratulations, you’ve all fallen for Glenn Beck’s intentionally misleading propaganda. You deserve nothing better than ignorance. Dvorak’s blog continues its slide into self-parody…
Glenn Beck is a racist lying sack of pseudo-right-wing crap. He is a fact rodeo clown waving his arms trying to distract truth from getting in the way of his show.
The Daily Kos(Left-Wing Nuts) are claiming that this story is a crock. They debunk it here.
OMG that guy totally sucked me in.
That was the slimiest news story I have ever seen. It will hurt a lot of people by totally scaring the crap out of them and yet it’s only for the dealers, not Joe Blow.
If you listen (or read transcript) he first says “if you go to the website” then says “If I understand this right the dealer logs in” thus, he knows it’s for the dealers, but he fills the newscast with so much hyped fear you hardly notice that it’s for dealers only, and the average citizen never ever has to sign that agreement that their computer “becomes the property of the government”.
What a lying sack of crap. Is this what he does with everything?
Crumb, and others who cracked this, thank you for saving me from his lies. I will never trust anything he says ever again.
Glen misleading people what’s next?
the song remains the same nothing to see here
I don’t want to know what he wont do for that Fox paycheck.
At :52 he lets everyone know the site is for car dealers. I think he told people not to try it at home because, despite that, it’s still accessible to the general public.
I don’t much care for car dealers, myself, but I don’t believe their computer systems should be placed under government control.. (ours or anyone else)

If you do not oppose this now, it will become mandatory in future.
# 18 & 22: “That’s called oversite”
Actually, the word is “oversight.” By the way, could you bend over a bit more?
I often listen to Beck. And Sometimes to Alex Jones. I don’t think of it as news. I think of it as entertainment. Sort of like Adam Curry.
This is SOP for any secure government website. I do computer work for a local gun dealer. The FBI background check system is the same way. You agree that while you are logged into their secure site that your computer is considered part of their system and anything you do while there can be monitored, etc. This is to prevent abuse such as a gun dealer doing a background check on someone not purchasing a gun or an unauthorized person trying to hack into the system to get names, addresses, SS#’s etc from their database. More Glen Beck BS.
Please stop drinking the koolaid.
You have to be able to sign in first.
Anyone truly worried that the techies at DOT can even do anything with your computer once you inadvertently give them the right to do what they wish with them?
I mean their are complaints of dealers not being able to sign into the site, having claims denied that were previous pre-approved so I am not worried that the DOT could even pull this off.
Isn’t this the same DOT that had its site shut down due to DDOS attack due to old Internet Explore and other un patched software programs?

good, now I can go back to my broad brush: all right wingers are lying bags of s&*t. Too bad, their conservative roots have value. It was fun to watch Oreilly be upset about the media calling him out for flaming his nutball arguments ending with Tiller the Baby Killer being shot in church. No apologies. “HE” was upset his straight forward accurate message about Tiller was being used by the media to label him.
Hah, hah. That was the same week he started having Glen Beck on as a guest. I stopped watching both at that time, unless they have a guest I want to catch. Same with Hannity.
I don’t “perceive” the liberals acting with the same conscious disregard of hypocrisy. Am I missing it in my bias?
Wow, I don’t think Glenn uses a “personal computer” to surf the “information superhighway” much.
I bet that what the website meant to say was that all the files that get created by the user filling out the forms may be intercepted, monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected, and disclosed etc. I expect that the agreement page will change and an apology be issued since the Obama Administration doesn’t need any flak about this.
#11 Great. You found the page. How did you get to it. The route Glenn showed doesn’t seem to be as straightforward as he touts. Perhaps you could elucidate.
I’m thoroughly disgusted that Fox News even has someone named Glenn, to warp the facts. If this keeps up, I might seriously consider a name change. I’m willing to bet that Beck changed his name from “Pond Scum”, for more credibility.
Anyway. I got to thinking that if sites like this were really a problem. They could easily be added to one’s browser “HOSTS” file, for blocking bad URLS. And some others that haven’t been mentioned here yet. Like buy.com, for their sleazy policy of turning over customers’ credit card info to its business partners for billing of unsolicited services. Check out last week’s Security Now podcast, about that.
Kimberly said two things that proves she has no idea what she is talking about.
A) “here you are trying to be a good citizen and make a charitable contribution.” -Its a REBATE program. The old car gets DESTROYED!
B) “the government of coarse has malware systems and tracking cookies.” The government is not installing anything, let alone malware or tracking cookies. It’s just a EULA!
She’s dumb!
Change you can believe in!
Last week a clerk at the Post Office was rude to me — wouldn’t let me cut in line even though what I was mailing was more _important_!
It’s all Obama’s fault!
(/sarcasm)
Oh PULEEZ if you’re stupid enough to think the government is this crafty, you’ve obviously had very few dealings with them. If you’re really concerned about your PC’s security – BEEF IT UP! I go to massive LAN parties here in Spain. There’s always somebody complaining, but the LAN’s full of hackers and pirates they’ll take over my computer! And it’s true lotsa wannabes at these events. So, let’s see, disable file and printer sharing, firewall(not M$) installed, antivirus(not M$) installed, network traffic monitor, and you’re all set. I go one step more and use a 3rd party task manager called TaskInfo. I’m familiar with all the processes that my PC habitually runs, so I’d spot an intruder on his first try. It’s not that hard. So if you think that the gov is gonna take over your PC don’t let them.
These were the powers given post 911. This is not new.
Haven’t you noticed the hidden EULA here on Dvorak.org? It’s a javascript that displays a 1 pt cursive sentence using white text and background that says “all your base are belong to us!”.
By agreeing to the EULA, it does help on the hunt, capture, extradition, prosecution and execution of anyone misusing the website, anywhere in the planet.
Mormonism is a hell of a drug.
This guys is fck head
Some are saying it’s no big deal because the site is only for car dealers.
That’s like saying it’s ok to steal from people under four feet tall because there aren’t that many of them.
If you violate the rights of one, you violate the rights of all.
For me, the biggest problem is not that this sick thing exists, but that so many people don’t see anything wrong with it. THAT is indeed frightening.
Nazi Germany rose to power with the same dictatorial attitude. The complacent among them said “it won’t happen here.” The complacent in America are now saying the same thing. Some of them are posting on this blog.
Be sure to catch the coming sale on Obama “brown shirts.”
Oh God!
1. Who tha heck in the government cares about your PC and the info that is sitting there?! Riiiiight! They all need your picks from that secret-gay party that you definitely store at work PC and they crave to record and listen to your skype conversations with Grandma from Alabama.
2. Obama hired a hundred… No! He hired a thousand of foreign (let’s say Indian)) IT specialists that will remotely take over each car dealers computer that is using this network. And he has a huge secret government server to store all of the info too!
3. Taking over one’s PC through the web browser is really possible. We are so lucky that noone before had that idea, especially the porn sites.
Your fears and anger are just miserable. I feel sorry for everyone who really cares about this issue as it is worth nothing, just like the contents of your head.
