Well, this may be a tad controversial in some quarters.

President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize Friday morning for what the committee called “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” especially his work to reach out to the Muslim world and to eliminate nuclear weapons around the globe.

The announcement, less than nine months after Obama took office, sparked immediate questions from reporters in Oslo about whether the Nobel committee was acting prematurely in rewarding a world leader who has outlined a lofty and ambitious agenda but has not yet made many concrete steps toward realizing it.

But Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the five-member Nobel committee, said “we have not given the prize for what may happen in the future. We are awarding Obama for what he has done in the past year. And we are hoping this may contribute a little bit for what he is trying to do.”

$1.4 Million is a nice gift for ACORN! Congrats Barry. You deserve everything the prize now represents.

Dallas, could you be any more of a Democrat-fellating apologist chimp?

“Did I get what a false dichotomy is?”

Yep, you got it. There goes another one :)

Be rude if you like but try to keep it brief or it’s gonna take hours to scroll past your post.

Did Texas secede from the union yet?

  5. smartalix says:

    140,

#1, Bush would never have won any international award that involved peace.

#2, I do grant that Bush wasn’t completely useless in some actions, like AIDS initiatives in Africa. if he had wan something from the WHO, I would have said, “good job, now do the rest”. I see no concessions to any competence among the Right-wing nimrods.

#3, All of my anti-policy invective over the years was directed at Bush, evoked law, and lamented the state of the union under him. I see no such commisseration with the AMerican people from the Right beyond idiotic racist-leaning anti-government pander.

#4, As for my invective, I was simply parroting the rhetoric against those who criticized Bush. You people were the ones playing the “Presidential Office Card” since Reagan (loser actor, mediocre governor, poor President, but he did end the Cold War) was President.

You are the one who needs to grow some testicles. Recognizing that we must all cooperate or we are lost requires strength to admit you need others. Any selfish retard can tell others to f*ck off.

  6. MikeN says:

I think I know what’s going on here. Bill Clinton is doing Miramax at the Oscars level of campaigning every year. The Committee is getting annoyed. So they go, ‘Hey let’s give a prize to Al Gore.’ He doesn’t get the hint and does a full court press again. So now they give the prize to Obama. Hillary’s next, then Chelsea, Roger, Hugo, and Monica.

  7. MikeN says:

It would be great if Obama turned down this award out of humility. Of course he thinks he should have won this a long time ago.

  8. Toxic Asshead says:

#71 – Wanting the best for America and opposing most of what Obama wants is the same thing.

  9. Obama has done more than enough to earn the Nobel Peace Prize. A lot of the many things he has done have not been widely publicized but he has made the world a much better place that’s for sure.

  10. pedro says:

    #143 Good one!

#149 Aaaahahahahaha! Best apology so far, short and to the point.

Fido, someone took the extra ration from you today.

  11. Montanaguy says:

I think it’s great..it’s the obvious culmination of leftist political correctness gone mad…everyone is above average, everyone gets a prize and no one ever gets less than a B in school, no matter the lack of effort or accomplishment.

  12. GF says:

    #140, smartalix

Bush won the the Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Award from Africare regarding his work in Africa.

Are you going to congratulate him?

  13. pedro says:

#151 FTW. The nobel peace price is like a special olympic. Boy, did you made me laugh!

  14. smartalix says:

    152,

As I pointed out, if he won something for his African efforts, good for him.

  15. Hyperkinetic says:

According to Nobel’s will, the Peace Prize should be awarded “to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”

Looks like all those bitching here have *NO* idea what the award is for or why it’s awarded.

  16. Sam Kaufman says:

my first thought was that maybe they’re making up for Chicago not getting the Olympics

  17. MikeN says:

So Scott, is Obama highest on the list of people who have put their country on a track towards doing something about climate change?

  18. jade says:

I think Obama is the antichrist
