Doesn’t seem like a big deal.. but hey I thought Tivo was pointless too.
what is Google TV?
It’s a Media Center with a Chrome (i.e. Linux) backend. Big Whoop.
Sounds like Apple TV to me.
If it has a web browser that works with netflix and hulu and amazon and costs $100 I would get it and pitch my apple tv.
Then I could stop supporting that megalomaniac control freak steve jobs.
As much as I love this kind of tech. Google has become way too intrusive on our privacy. They have become EVIL. Fuck em. They can shove it.
There’s a couple of things that aren’t quite clear to me. They talk about this being distributed in set top boxes, and built into TV’s. I assume then we cable and satellite users won’t get anything from this other than online content?
If however they offer firmware like this for satellite and cable boxes, that would be awesome! We currently have Uverse, which has the least awful DVR interface of the cable/sat boxes out there. A far cry from what Google claims to soon offer.
With the exception of web content my current Direct TV DVR has all the same functions.
It’s hard to read web pages on a tv unless the text is very large. Also, what are they using for a keyboard? Keeping a full size keyboard on the living room table sucks. I use a little Bluetooth keyboard for my media centre.
I’d think that leaving the game on the big screen while you access webpages via your laptop of iPad would be easier.
If they include a wireless keyboard that has a large built-in trackpad then Google TV may just work.
#3 If by appletv you mean that media center clone that mac put out, then yes.
#5 Ditto. I just updated google earth today and it installed chrome even though I told it not to download it. Even worse, there’s no control dialog to what it’s being installed, once you click on the .exe, it does what it wants.
I uninstalled the thing immediately and told them to shove it in the uninstall survey.
Does every product demo-video they make have to treat us like we we’ve never operated an electric device before?
The people that work at google really must think the rest of us are semi-retarded.
Perhaps they have forgotten but people with PCs/HDTVs can already do most of this. Oh they don’t do PCs any more.
do yourself a favour…
Turn off any and all TV..
-the less propaganda stuffed into your brain…the better the chances you’ll wake up from the mind numbed stupor you’ve been in..
-s
Mmmmm, mind numbed stupor…
OK, so it lets me use my DVR the same way I can now. Plus I can connect to the web, and go to web-sites like Hulu which tells me I can’t watch the content because I live in the wrong country.
Sounds great!
I was using Google Chrome, and, of course, Google Search.
I finally decided to dump Google in every way. Problem is, so many sites use their damn maps, I can’t get away from that slimy Serge what’s his name? Sergio Briney. or whatever the hell it is.
Screw him.
Using Opera, and Start Page, and quite happy with it.
“It’s the Internet! On your TV!!!”
Ho-hum…
They keep trying. No one has it right yet. Not even close.
Meh.
Give me Safari on my AppleTV and I’ll be a happy fella.
