Did I hear Mr. Clinton say he was for legalization?

More status quo, Bush-Lite BS from no change Obama.

I wish he would act like a black man.

Politics. What does it do to a person?

  4. John says:

The biggest problem is cost to regulate. Let’s be honest legalizing it does not mean it will just start showing up on shelves. Like tobacco it will be Federally regulated. Their will also be rules passed for dealing with the side effects of Marijuana use, such as operating a motor vehicle, or other public safety issues. Just as laws have cropped up for cell phone use. You cannot simply allow people to police themselves on proper use. Especially if it becomes legal and much more accessible. It could very well become legal someday. After all I see it as a great tax revenue source.

    • dusanmal says:

“…rules passed for dealing with the side effects of Marijuana use, such as operating a motor vehicle, or other public safety issues…” – I hope you are aware of recent CA controversy on that issue: CA legalized it – fine. Now, how to regulate driving under Marijuana influence? Turns out that there is absolutely no way to do it in the field and (maybe worse) no reliable dosage estimate even in the lab. No clear, Court-acceptable way to measure and distinguish. So, right now legalizing marijuana means that law enforcement simply can’t make any regulation about it,… which in turn means that you may encounter drivers on the road way beyond drunken equivalent state who can’t be prosecuted or punished. Just one trivial example of impossibility to do what you propose.

      • bobbo, the pragmatic existentia says:

Whats wrong if you are driving unsafely, you get a ticket for the behavior you are exhibiting?

Why the drive for “status” crimes?

That said, just read a story about a drunk hit and run. In my youth, I have been so drunk off my ass – but in my car.

I am truly blessed I was never in an accident while drunk. Thats something I would feel bad about. Same with MJ or any other impairment.

        C O Y O T E.

      • jpfitz says:

Was just driving in the LAX area for the first time. Hardly any police on the roads and none on the streets. Legalization of any substance that impairs the drivers ability to operate the motor vehicle should have a test for impairment. I heard from some locals that there is no enforcement except for alcohol.

Hopefully I wont drive through L.A. again. I don’t know who was stoned but the simple driving action of passing and lane changing performed by the locals was without warning and maybe a cars length in front of you. One of the worst highways I’ve driven on.
The desert is beautiful and the Palms to Pines highway was a blast. Thanks to whomever here suggested the drive and other desert area attractions .

I drove thru LA in a car with brakes that had to be pumped to stop.

Never take a car thru LA in a car with brakes that have to be pumped to stop.

One word, Brembo. The rental had superior braking and acceleration. And what is it with the thump thump highways, 10 and 5 in particular.

  5. joejoe says:

    Not this this shit again.

    • smartalix says:

As long as it remains shit, it will keep stinking until we clean it up. Legalization, as alcohol profoundly demonstrated, is the only functional solution. IT is a dichotomy to law-and-order types as real as promoting contraception to reduce abortion is to the fundamentalists. In each case the groups are fighting between their desire to eliminate an evil and their desire to deprive their neighbor of any fun vices.

  8. Anonymous says:

Did anyone notice who was in office in 1937 when cannabis (pot) was outlawed? That’s right! It was a Democrat, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR).

So don’t even try to tell me FDR was right about this. But because FDR was so revered by many Americans for seemingly having lifted us out of the Great Depression (when in reality he was simply lucky enough or cunning enough to have been in power when the war hit) that we tend to forget his motivation or methods – many of which went against the very Constitution he was sworn to uphold.

We also tend to forget about FDR’s extra-marital affair when any other non-Democrat might have been tarred, feathered and ran out of town on a rail. Sound like anyone else you may have heard of?

So how can you dummy-dems continue to support a regime like that when all you want to do is get high? Your own Utopian leaders long ago made it illegal for you to pursue your happiness. Their agenda even now wants to continue eroding your/our rights and somehow blame it on someone else. They’re so good at it that when you do finally poke your head up and take notice at just how badly you’re getting screwed you seem to think that it’s the Republicans who are your enemy. (Not that the Republicans have done too much to dissuade that perception either.)

I swear! If the Devil were real it would be pretty obvious just what political party he was a member of. (Hint: Not Libertarian.)

All I can do is laugh at you pot heads when you start in with how much better things would be if the Democrats were in power. Never mind that they ARE! Or what’s recently happened!

(Don’t read too much into this. I still say Mitt Romney is a total jerk! But Romney would seem to be the only choice we have – at least until someone better comes along.)

I could not make it past the first minute.

Anyone that has spoken to people on pot knows they have nothing of value to say, their language skills are damaged and the brain functions so impaired that trying to building anything would require hours if not days to complete.

The ONLY thing pot would have helped ancient man with is coming up with deities from natural occurrences. And as for first cultivated crop, no wheat and barley are the first. Barley is better as it is easier to cultivate, has more protein than pot by far and can be used in many different products from bread to beer.

    This is utter crap.

It is a good drug. That is all it is. Just like foxglove, belladonna and coca. All good drugs when applied correctly and under supervision.

Have you read any of bobbo‘s posts? Bouncing between him and TEAD looking for an idea is such an exercise in futility that I just skip over the posts.

This appears to be an reedited version of a video I had seen before, that probably had too much extra crap that would turn off most older Americans. Like showing all the hippies who started the legalization movement, etc.

I take it back, this video is completely difference from an earlier pro-MJ video I saw months ago. And I found the original source video, minus the distracting foreign language captions.

Hope that link isn’t broken by evil forces. 🙂
There are some similar videos on the subject, at this website. Some much longer than this. One 3 hours and 44 minutes long. And no, I haven’t watched it. Are you kidding me, 3 hours plus?

  14. Glenn E. says:

The first minute of this video, made me think of a funny take on “2001: A Space Odyssey”. Instead of a large black, featureless monolith showing up to advance pre-man. A large MJ cigarette dispensing machine shows up. Which eventually leads to all that cave art. Ok?

  15. Glenn E. says:

Besides the Patent Medicine industry not liking any competition from anyone growing MJ themselves. I believe there are some other reasons the legal authorities have been against legal MJ sales.

One. Unlike testing one’s blood alcohol level. There is no simply test for how much THC is in your system. So anyone caught driving impaired, by smoking MJ, can’t quantitatively be judged by any standard testing device. Just the “walk a straight line” sort of test. Which any good lawyer could argue away as you having a sprained leg or painful hip. Cops aren’t trained experts at differentiating between a temporary mental impairment and a long term physical impairment. And you really don’t need to be able to walk a line, without a cane or walker, to be able to drive a car. Even some overweight people can’t walk a straight line. But they’re driving cars. So testing for significant MJ effect, by police, would be a very tough sell in the courts.

Two, enforcing the MJ ban is likely one of the least dangerous things that police do. Most growers aren’t going go out in a blaze of gunfire, during an arrest and seizure. It’s just not worth it. And MJ users aren’t known for being violent. It’s like busting drunks. Although even some drunks are more violent than MJ users. Meanwhile the general public really thinks their local police are doing something fantastic, by busting the potheads. So it’s a real gravy crime, to keep on the books. Legalizing MJ sales, means the police will have to go after the far more dangerous drug dealers, and street gangs. When their not hassling the prostitutes and skid row drunks.

Three, there’s a lot of highly profitable sports spectator activity, that depends on fans’ pent up aggression. Like Football, Hockey, etc. And kids coming out of high school get seduced into military service, with the promise of seeing some action and adventure. How much do you suppose that would no longer matter, to those that regularly mellowed out on MJ? I’d think such users would be too “happy” to want to see someone’s head bashed in as a sport or in a war. I’m sure it dials back a lot of aggression. So these sports industries, as well as the military industrial complex, aren’t going to want anything that screws with their profit margins. Violence is a very profitable state of mind in the world. MJ use might even put a damper on other addictive, profit making behaviors, like legal gambling. So you can “bet” none of these “legal” institutions wants MJ sales legal.

Four, the court cases are a racket, that make good money from policing a “moral” crime. There’s big money in nailing people for growing a stupid plant, that would grow wild on its own, if tax money wasn’t spent clearing it from fields and woods. So after they eradicate as much of its natural growth as possible. And make growing any new MJ illegal in most states. They lock up those who think its a foolish law, and dare violate it. The jurors are likely hand picked anti-MJ, anti-Hippie, or just anti-anything-they-wouldn’t-do. They can be counted on to make things easy for the court. And the price tag for all this is over $9 billion a year. The Judges, lawyers are just exploiting the MJ defendants for career advancement.

Five, big tobacco doesn’t want to compete with MJ sales. And naturally, since the US taxes tobacco sales, they don’t want people growing their own MJ and using it instead of tobacco. Only if the States could regulate MJ, so they could tax its sales, would they allow it. And I’m pretty sure growing your own MJ is much easier than growing your own tobacco, or making your own alcoholic spirits. And BTW, you can grow tobacco legally. Even though it causes cancer and lung disease, kills people, and can be very additive for its users. So why is only MJ banned, when it has so very little negative effect on health? See the last five reasons I gave.
