Help – I’ve fallen and I can’t find my joint!

They grow in a secret location in northern Israel. A tall fence, security cameras and an armed guard protect them from criminals. A hint of their sweet-scented blossom carries in the air: rows and rows of cannabis plants, as far as the eye can see.

It is here, at a medical marijuana plantation atop the hills of the Galilee, where researchers say they have developed marijuana that can be used to ease the symptoms of some ailments without getting patients high…

Today cannabis is used in Israel to treat 9,000 people suffering from illnesses such as cancer, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease and post traumatic stress disorder, according to Israel’s health ministry…

“The cannabis plant, enriched with Cannabidiol, can be used for treating diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, liver inflammation, heart disease and diabetes”…with no side effects.

It’s a huge advantage,” said one 35-year-old patient who asked not to be identified, “I can smoke during the day, function with a lot less pain and still be focused, work and drive. It is a great gift…”

There’s a rumor the same researchers are working on methods to guarantee experiencing sex without an orgasm.

  1. orchidcup says:

Marinol here in the USA is a cannabis extract used to treat cancer patients and whatnot without producing the psychoactive effect.

I don’t know why the psychoactive effect is considered a “high.”

I found the effect to result in relaxation, sleepiness, and a loss of short-term memory along with the famous “munchies.”

Certainly different brains react in slightly different ways to any intoxicant, but I don’t find it useful.

  2. moss says:

    What?

  3. Dallas says:

….researchers are working on methods to guarantee experiencing sex without an orgasm.

Experience sex without actually having physical sex? Teapublicans should be very excited (pun intended) at this possibility.

    • msbpodcast says:

Engaging in sex without experiencing any sensation sounds like a kind of hell. (Its all that left to some folks I’ve heard of, [like Stephen Hawkins.])

It also sounds like ethical birth control I once read about in a science-fiction story. You could start singing the Star Spangled Banner, get kicked in the balls half way through and finish the song without skipping a beat. (I think it was a [insert name of douche-bag author, DBA] story, but I can’t be sure since [DBA] doesn’t want any [DBA] stuff on the intar-webs.)

  4. orchidcup says:

Experiencing sex without an orgasm would be a useful means of contraception.

Of course, the Catholic Church does not approve of contraception, so the Pope will insist on keeping the orgasm, and another Christian controversy will be born.

There must be some kind of instant gratification for humans to be involved in any activity according to my study of the subject.

    • Dallas says:

physical sex is better because you get tired and then you can commence doing other work.

It seems nothing will ever get done with a sex pill other than satisfy Teapublican desire to avoid people from having ‘dirty’ physical contact with each other.

      • orchidcup says:

Physical contact is required for humans to procreate.

Other than artificial insemination, I cannot imagine how Teapublicans would increase their number.

My parents never spoke of sex and procreation, but somehow I figured it out, and I was happy to continue the tradition of procreation.

      • Mr Windows says:

We ‘TeaPublicans’ and Catholics are firmly in the physical sex camp. God gave us the sexual act in order to procreate and enjoy each other within the bounds of marriage. It’s our duty to at least practice trying to populate the Earth. Whether some of us don’t entirely agree with the ban on contraception is entirely a personal choice we each have to live with.
I’ll keep my orgasm, thank you very much. How else would you get the rush of endorphin’s?

        • orchidcup says:

          Cocaine. Methamphetamine.

        • Glenn E. says:

I think after 7 billion people, we’ve had plenty of practice, populating the earth. Perhaps it’s time to start practicing, not doing it so much. Who know how much more the good old earth can take of us. I’m pretty sure that all races, religions, and ethnicities are well represented, and in very little danger of extinction.

And yet, there seems to be this irrational paranoia of the major religions, of losing control of the world, if their numbers slip too far below another’s. So that’s what all this concern over birth control is about. Can’t afford not to be top dog, or even second dog. So punch out as many whatevers, as you can, to please God. Because it’s majority rules, time. What a load of stupid heads.

There are people starvating in some African villages, because they have ten children. Partly to combat disease and famine taking 90% of them. But also because it’s seen as some macho achievement to have so many kids. Even if there’s no way to feed them. So ten mouths gobble up the food scraps, that would barely feed one or two. And they can’t see the logic of how this is starving them. Some idiot religion probably also advises them not to use any “protection”. Perhaps wanting them to starve, to get rid of them. I wouldn’t put any ulterior motives, passed it. “If you can’t sterilize them, starve them out.”, could be their sick logic.

          • Dallas says:

Agreed . It’s terrible and sad to see starving innocent children. A failure of society, failure of religious leaders.

          • What? says:

No one cares about the children. No one.

It is all about plucking heartstrings to control you.

People we use whatever means to control you.

            Resistance is futile.

          • Cursor_ says:

It is not overpopulation, it is lack of distribution.

People tend to stay where their ancestors did because of tradition, not logic.

If people spread out across the face of the globe in even proportions you would be able to walk for days and not see one human being.

As Moe Howard so often said:

            Spread Out!

  5. NewformatSux says:

Well there goes the campaign of legalization by hyping the suffering of a few. Now states can just legalize the non-high version as medicinal marijuana.

    • orchidcup says:

      You are absolutely right.

Now if we could only devise a medicinal purpose for alchohol, there would no longer be any basis for the legalization of cannabis.

      • What? says:

The reason native americans are susceptible to alcoholism is because they weren’t exposed to the medical use of alcohol.

Europeans (perhaps others) used alcoholic water because it was safer to drink than the raw cesspool water they pulled out of the ground in cities. That’s the story anyway.

  6. Sheila says:

Marinol here in the USA is a cannabis extract’

i thought that marinol was synthesized not a extract?

    survivingsurvivalism.com

    • orchidcup says:

I stand corrected. Marinol is a synthesized THC.

I made the mistake of assuming that THC is extracted in the same way that morphine is extracted from opium.

  7. Well there you go
    Honest and open research
One wonders at the whole industry of the “War on Drugs”
What good has it done what so ever except build the military industrial complex
It all starts with the demand for drugs
“Drugs” are so profitable -stamp it out in Columbia and it emerges in Peru or Mexico
Economics is after all supply and demand- cut the demand for drugs in the first place
Or better yet – try country music
Tobacco after all goes all the way back to the aboriginal Indians of the US & Canada

    • orchidcup says:

Which country music do you mean?

The country music that existed in the 40’s, for example, or the rock n’ roll music that Nashville markets as country music today.

Give any rock n’ roll artist a southern twang and they instantly become a country artist.

I prefer rock n’ roll without the twang, but a lot of country rocks along just fine for me.

  8. sargasso_c says:

    What are we discussing, again?

    • The Monster's Lawyer says:

I don’t remember. but I could really go for some Doritos and a Mountain Dew.

    • orchidcup says:

At the moment we were discussing country music as a psychoactive drug.

Personally, I prefer the psychoactive effects of coffee.

Seriously, hemp is a very useful plant. Virtually everything was made from hemp before industrialization.

The medicinal properties were not well known back then, although some physicians would prescribe the ingestion of cannabis tea for menstrual cramps and so forth.

The world history of hemp is very interesting.

  9. spsffan says:

Jeez, do we EVER get any good news from the Middle East?

  10. Uncle Patso says:

I see this as a good thing. I had to give up on the natural product decades ago — it just got _too_ strong. If I ever need the medical effects of cannabinoids, I’ll definitely investigate this stuff.

    • orchidcup says:

The world leading producer of hemp is China with smaller production in Europe, Chile and North Korea.

While more hemp is exported to the United States than to any other country, the United States Government does not consistently distinguish between marijuana and the non-psychoactive Cannabis used for industrial and commercial purposes.

Typically, hemp contains below 0.3% THC, while cultivars of Cannabis grown for recreational use can contain anywhere from 2% to over 20%.

My understanding is that Israel has developed a hemp that is very weak in psychoactive properties while maintaining its medicinal properties.

I doubt the government would allow an individual to (legally) obtain the Israel strain.

  11. blatherer says:

Cut off all aid to Israel. Do it NOW.

  12. Shubee says:

The article states “CBD plants are available in different forms all over the world.” Are these plants legal in the USA?

    • orchidcup says:

While more hemp is exported to the United States than to any other country, the United States Government does not consistently distinguish between marijuana and the non-psychoactive Cannabis used for industrial and commercial purposes.

In other words, it is a crap shoot.

  13. Glenn E. says:

The complete total of U.S. grants and loan guarantees to Israel for fiscal 1997 was $5,525,800,000. God only know (and Congress) what it is now. But think about this. They grow weed in Israel, it’s legal there, and the US gives them billions to do it. But US citizens get banged up in jail for attempting the same thing. Maybe we need another state of Israel, in the US. To get Congress to allow, defend, and subsidize doing anything fun. In the US.

New Jersey comes to mind. Though NYC has the highest percentage of Jews, after Tel Aviv. But I think Jersey would have more farmland for domestic weed growth, than NYC. And be easier to wall off (their choice), from the rest of us godless citizens. Who are only fit for subsidizing their existence. But at least we’d get legal US weed. And it be kosher, too. 🙂

  14. Wrigsted the Dane says:

They what to make CBD and get rid of the THC that’s makes you high and euphoric. CBD make you stoned, it have an almost narcotic effect. Many Cannabis indica is high on CBD.
Cannabis indica plant may have a CBD/THC ratio 4–5 times that of Cannabis sativa
They could have made hash of their C. indica and the result would have been the same.

  15. Speter says:

the plant in its entire form apparently has more of a synergistic effect and so removing parts or synthesizing may never be as good as consumption of the whole natural plant. THC is responsible for the psychoactive high and this burns at a higher temp than the CBD which is psychoactive and naturalizes the high in some cases, this is why when you eat it you do not get the same rush, likewise when you smoke it you do burn off most of the CBD while inhaling more THC producing the ‘high’.

i belie hemp oil is the way to go for medicinal purposes, made using entire plant. you may get body stoned but not traditional headstoned and there is plenty of evidence that it not only has an anti-tumor effect but also a variety of health benefits that far outweigh the slight chance of triggering psychosis in people who are likely to show it at a later stage any. bees and peanuts likely kill more people than hemp.

google ‘run from the cure’ or “govt knew in 1974” for instructions and videos.

    (some pasted below)

Greater Than The Sum Of Its Parts

It turns out that cannabis is a complex plant indeed — there are anywhere between 60 and 120 cannabinoids alone in the plant itself — and it’s the total mix of them that has the best and most natural effect on people. That’s similar to the way that organic food has a healthier effect on most people who eat it, even though it’s “technically” exactly the same as food grown with dangerous fertilizers and pesticides. And that’s why none of the synthetic cannabinols whipped up in a laboratory have yet proved nearly as effective on people as a few good tokes of weed!

Here’s the interesting thing. For decades, marijuana breeders have worked to increase the THC levels of their plants in an attempt to get people as high as possible. That ended up being good for some people and bad for others, since that led to a reduction in CBD. Now, with cannabis being looked at more seriously as a medicine, CBD has regained the interest of researchers, who have managed to create a number of strains with high CBD.

Now, I’ve only heard of two or three high-CBD strains, and only used one personally. This stuff is still hard to get. So in the interest of spreading healing and cheer and knowledge, I’m going to talk about all the ways of increasing your CBD effective yield no matter what kind of strain you have.

If the people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.

  17. Dan says:

I smoke leaf “not buds” of the plant to ease my pain and to reduce seizures. This shit works better than most of the expensive drugs my doc prescribes.Try it you might like it.

  18. Micromike says:

Nebraska and Iowa are growing tons of this for free and have been for centuries. How is this news? It is called ditch weed or more properly hemp. Farmers have been trying to get permission to grow it in California for a long time but weren’t clever enough to call it Medical Marijuana.

  19. I’d like to thank you for the efforts you’ve put in writing this blog. I’m hoping to view the same high-grade content from you in the future as well. In fact, your creative writing abilities has motivated me to get my own blog now 😉
I was extremely pleased to discover this page. I wanted to thank you for your time for this particularly fantastic read!! I definitely really liked every bit of it and I have you book marked to see new things in your blog.

  20. My top advice this year is: Don’t go for the
obvious and don’t make false economies. This is the reason the popularity of receiving and sending Christmas presents has grown.
This is surely more beneficial to you because
you can already start looking for those gifts before the actual event; there are have more time to find
gifts that are on sale which works well for those men in your
    own list.
