V.O.T.E., Voice of the Ex-Offender, is a grassroots, membership based organization founded and run by Formerly Incarcerated Persons (FIPs) in partnership with allies dedicated to ending the disenfranchisement and discrimination against of FIPs.

We believe that FIPs, their loved ones, allies and communities can use their experiences and expertise to improve public safety in New Orleans. Through civic engagement and educating FIPs about how to maneuver the legal system, draft and advocate for policy and legislation as well as other job and technical skills, VOTE will mobilize a strong group of leaders that will transform of our city’s criminal justice system.

The message is clear…vote 3rd party. Har!

  1. Phydeau says:

Let’s see… liberals like me will say once they’ve served their sentence and paid their debt to society, they should be restored to full citizenship, be able to vote, etc.

The right-wingers will say ban them for life from voting, they’re poor and black and will probably vote Democratic anyway.

Then endless variations of the above.

  2. MikeN says:

“They always talk about black on black crime, and when you hear the words black on black crime, the first thing you think of is a black man robbing you or breaking in your house, and that is a black on black crime. But lets take it one step further. There’s a black on black crime down in city hall, there’s a black on black crime down in all the state capitols in America, where all the black folks are voting against our interests.”

  3. bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist and junior culture critic says:

VOTE…..doesn’t make any sense to me. FIP’s don’t have any money so their funding has to come from……..where?

Heard a commentator say the basic opposition in America is not between lib & tard, puke & dem, conserv vs lib, but rather between “fear” and “trust” of the gubment. As good a cut as any other polorization of the electorate: truth being more a mix of all the elements.

Should ex cons be allowed to vote? Of course.

Are they more likely Dumbo voters?==I would assume so although the dumbos don’t in fact do much more than the Pukes. Perhaps on the poverty benefits side, not on the ex-c0n rights as much??

Funny….with more Pukes convicted of High Crimes and sent to Jail, you’d think they would be Pro-Ex Con???………I wonder what the difference could be????????????????

    • ± says:

      ***** asketh bobbo disingenuously ******
Are they more likely Dumbo voters?
      *************************************

Well, let’s address the answer on a race basis for starters. Since most ex-cons are black and blacks being the most racist voters to exist anywhere ever, vote their skin color 95%, then yes, they join the D flavor hirers of R/Ds.

Now let’s address the remaining non-black ex-cons. All of the theft-related ex-cons obviously think others should provide for them. This makes them perfect D flavored R/D hirers. And for various reasons, the murders and other non-theft ex-cons will likely think the D flavor serves there self interest better.

Self interest sucks. This is a big reason why we have the governance we have. Most people are too stupid to realize that they don’t have to be part of hiring the same failed governance.

      • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist and junior culture critic says:

I think its 50% chance most ex cons are black.

You didn’t connect Dumbos to blacks or racists.

A thief by his actions relies on himself and not others providing for (giving to) him.

The sucky gubment we have is primarily an uninformed electorate that is too easily swayed by money.

So…….other than every thing you say being wrong….gee…..its the same old same old….. without an overt wailing to vote Third Party?

        What gives with that?

As McCullough’s OP implies: most Third Parties are funded by single issue sources….aka…the worst influence in a democracy that is meant to represent an many interests as possible thru: the Art of Compromise.

  4. Ah_Yea says:

    This is right on point.

Charles Barkley has been talking about this as well for years.
Although the clip below doesn’t address the leadership, it does address the core of the problem.
This is a Very Good Listen. It relates and important to know.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAY9eZkBbi8

Think about it. What do “unintelligent people: do? Vote for those who promise them stuff.

The solution? Get intelligent. Leave the black culture as told by Barkley.

    • Phydeau says:

Not all unintelligent people vote that way, yeabo. Some say to themselves “let’s cut taxes on billionaires, because I might be a billionaire some day and I don’t want to pay taxes!” 😉

      • Phydeau says:

        dagnabbit… I fat-fingered the quote:

“Let’s not cut taxes on billionaires, because I might be a billionaire some day and I don’t want to pay taxes!”

  5. Ah_Yea says:

Just curious to try that link again.

  6. Ah_Yea says:

And a little more. Pretty good starting at 3.00 minutes.

In essence, smart blacks who care about their community will hold their leaders responsible, but to be a smart black you can’t be in the black culture because the black culture will reject you.

Watch. V.O.T.E will be scorned and rejected because they are too smart and responsible. Not “Black Enough”.

    • MikeN says:

Pay Moynihan suggested that his party was opposed to Social Security reform because they didn’t like the idea of black people with hundreds of thousands of dollars in a retirement fund, they might vote Republican.

  7. ECA says:

uNTIL YOU CAN PLACE A camera CREW ON OUR Elected officials, 24/7 and NO SECRET meetings…You will never see an honest official..
We do it to the Famous, and actors…Why cant we do it to them??

    There are LAWS against it..

Until you can get Corps to show us ALL the paper work, and WHAT they are doing…Nothing is safe.

Who needs terrorists, Commies, and all the rest..They are HERE.

  8. Phydeau says:

Uh, hate to burst your bubble, wingnuts, but if you were watching anything else besides Fox News you’d know about the nationwide, coordinated effort by Republicans to pass laws specifically designed to make it harder for black people (and other traditionally Democratic constituencies) to vote. Happening in 18 states so far, that have Republican governors and legislative branches controlled by Republicans.

There’s plenty of corruption and graft and greed in the Democratic party, but the clear public antipathy of the Republican part toward black people is far worse.

    But hey, dream on. 😉

    • MikeN says:

True, most illegals have id, so voter ID laws only have the effect of stopping liberals from voting with someone else’s ballot. They need to figure out how to cleanse non-citizens from voting, probably by repealing Motor Voter.

      • Phydeau says:

What a useful little tool you are to the Republican billionaires, Mikey. Well done.

  9. Phydeau says:

The true message from the Republican party! 😀

    • Phydeau says:

My favorite line from the video:

… we own America, why is this so complicated?

  10. Marc Perkel says:

I agree with some of the criticism of the Democrats. However the Republicans are far worse to blacks. But I have to say that I’m tired of voting for Democrats just to keep Republicans from getting elected. America’s only black president was Bill Clinton, not Obama.

    • ± says:

      *******************

Can’t speak for the “only” part, but Bill certainly was the first black pres. How do we know this? Bill said so hisself.

    • NewFormatSux says:

Mayor of Atlanta, ‘Bill Clinton’s been with more black women than Barack.’

    • NewFormatSux says:

      >However the Republicans are far worse to blacks.

Yet blacks keep moving from places run by Democrats to places run by Republicans.
