For years the only real reason to vote for Democrats was “Republicans are even worse”. The NSA spying revealed by Snowden was one of the things that changed that. And when Nancy Pelosi and most of the rest of the Democrat Party got on board with it there ceased to be a significant difference. The Democrats should have got the message in 2013 at Netroots nation when Pelosi was booed and heckled (by your’s truly) for saying the Obama did the right thing and Snowden was a criminal. And I’ll bet the Democrats still don’t get it.

That’s not the only thing that made Dem voters not care about this election.

  1. Obama has more aggressively deported Hispanics that any other president.
  2. He was also very aggressive closing down California’s legal Medical Marijuana dispensaries.
  3. He was against Gay Marriage before he was for it.
  4. He imposed a tax on solar panels.
  5. Guantanamo is still open for business.
  6. Obama is covering up reports on Bush era torture.
  7. When the economy crashed he handed out trillion to the rich and left us with the bill.
  8. No crooked banker went to jail over the 2008 crash.
  9. Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Syria, all far worse off. Iraq was Bush’s fault, Obama made it worse.
  10. Obama skyjacked the plane of Bolivian president looking for Snowden.
  11. Obama spied on our allies, tapping their phones, like the president of Germany.
  12. Obama spies on and wire taps journalists.
  13. Obama shut down the Space Shuttle without replacing it first leaving us to thumb rides to space for the Russians.
  14. Obama gutted NASA funding.
  15. Obama gutted scientific research funding.
  16. Obama opposed the FDA recommendation to allow Plan B birth control.
  17. Obama signed the sequestrations into law.
  18. We got Romneycare rather than single payer health care.
  19. Hope and Change became Nope and Same.
  20. Obama is and example of affirmative action gone bad.
  21. You can only stand so much weak and stupid.
  22. Obama is still waiting for the Republican’s to give him permission to be president.
  23. Democrats are not really serious about immigration reform. We deport highly talented people who we educated here who want to stay.
  24. Declining living standards.
  25. Rich getting even richer. Poor getting even poorer.
  26. Wall Street borrows at 0% interest. main street pays 15-30%
  27. No mortgage write down for home owners.
  28. Children fleeing for their lives in Central America send back to die.
  29. Secret Service more into whores than fence jumpers.
  30. We’re going to defeat ISIS without boots on the ground?
  31. Obama hands over more money to churches “faith based organizations” than bush.
  32. Cuts in food stamps for the poor.
  33. Obama at war with Journalists and free Speech.
  34. Obama’s persecution of whistle blowers who report government wrongdoing.
  35. Obama at war with 4th Amendment.
  36. No minimum wage increase.
  37. Selling guns to Mexican drug lords.
  38. We could have had the Clinton’s back.

I’m sure there’s a lot more and Benghazi isn’t even a real scandal compared to the above list of real problems. Obama killed Osama bin Laden, and Romneycare is better than nothing. but really – Obama should step down and let Joe Biden finish off his term. Biden can probably work with the Republican Congress and restore some sanity to the process. Pelosi and Reid should step down too and let Elizabeth Warren be the Senate Minority Leader.

And it’s not just Obama. It’s the democrats who stand silent and put their loyalty with Obama instead of the American people. They know he’s wrong and they silently go along with it. And that’s why Democrat voters didn’t bother to show up and vote.

Having said this – Republicans are far crazier by an order of magnitude that Democrats. I voted for the Democrats in the last California election and they all won. I feel sorry for the rest of the country.

This is an interview I did at Netroots Nation about NSA spying. in June of 2013.

  1. US says:

Obama said a lot to get re-elected and when he got there realized the job was a lot harder than he expected. Some people rise to the occasion when faced with a difficult job and be a leader, Obama decided being a leader was too hard. He could have started out strong and close Gitmo immediately, instead he lied until everyone moved on. That was the sign that he was not going to be a leader.

  2. Phydeau says:

Marc, you might be seen as more impartial if you stop using the Republican term “Democrat Party” and use the name the Democratic Party calls itself, which is, actually “the Democratic Party.” Or we could agree to call the Republican party “the Rethuglican Party” 😉

Having said that, yes of course you’re right, Obama is no flaming liberal, in fact he’s the Republican president wingnuts have been dreaming of, they just don’t realize it. They’ve just been brainwashed to believe that anyone with a “(D)” after their name is evil incarnate.

    • Phydeau says:

Whoops, hit “submit” accidentally… so we have a center-right party (Democrats) and a far right wing off in the weeds party (Republicans) so us average Americans have no one representing us.

    • Marc Perkel says:

I know the Republicans started the “Democat Party” reference and at first I didn’t like it. But “Democratic” is a word the describes democracies, not parties and after some time I felt like “Democrat Party” was more accurate.

    • Marc Perkel says:

If I called the Republicans the “Republic Party” that would seem equally odd to me.

      • Phydeau says:

Equally odd as “Democrat Party”? So are you going to use it, since you’re using “Democrat Party”?

        • Mincing Words? says:

You realize we live in a complex analog world where political views follow the bell curve, right?

The dem/repub polarization is convenient, but naive.

Because politics has become a team sport, it’s fun to see the world in digital terms… black/white, dems/repubs, you/me, etc.

          Enjoy!

Remember that the fringe makes all the noise, because they are small in number, and therefore must be loud of mouth.

And the media LOVES the fringe. Everybody loves a freak show.

          • Sylvia Plath says:

where political views follow the bell curve, right?

well, i do tend to wander the world viewing the moneyed interests as nearsighted old fools with their heads jammed in ovens stuffed with penny-laden Kerr Jars.

        • Phydeau says:

Funny, there’s a wikipedia page for “Democrat Party”, it’s been a Republican epithet for decades…

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democrat_Party_%28epithet%29

      • NewFormatSux says:

Democrat is both an noun and an adjective. Democrat Party is not valid but Democrat party is.

    • bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas UNLESS we substitute with the use of labels says:

Silly to argue about labels…..and why exactly is using Democrat any kind of insult except a lot of Dumbo’s say that when interviewed. It doesn’t even matter that you can hear many Dumbos call themselves that when they aren’t being pinned to say “something/anything” to criticize the Pukes.

Again—its a silly issue. People who keep their eyes on the ball as Mincemeat did are the model to follow.

    • dade0 says:

So, “Politics as usual here in the US; Republicans and Democratics are at each others’ throats.” is proper democratic diction? I THINK NOT! I’ve always heard Democrats and Republicans and not Democratics and Republicans. I think phydough may be a bit syntax sensitive due to his party going home a Tuesday loser. Experience of the past few decades tells me it makes little difference if you pick D or R – you lose either way. Vote issues/policy/record – not party. Parties corrupt the process, etc. Voters that tick the R box are Republicans and voters that chose the D box are Democrats..not Democratics.

  3. NewFormatSux says:

Nice attempt at trolling. At least try to stay on point, which was why Dem voters don’t care. Don’t then just list a bunch of random complaints. Fence jumpers, really?

Your first point is flat out false, and is based on Obama lies. That claim comes from a combination of aggressive plea bargaining to make the numbers look good, and just changing the count. They are including people apprehended at the border, which they never did before.

    • Phydeau says:

NFS, you’re one of the brainwashed wingnuts. If a Republican president did all these things you’d approve of him.

Just like if a Republican president pushed thru HeritageFoundationCare/RomneyCare/ObamaCare you’d be all for it.

The stupid, it hurts to look at it.

      • NewFormatSux says:

No. In case you weren’t noticing, Republicans were not happy with George Bush’s border policies. He shut down satellite surveillance for the DEA when they realized they would end up stopping illegal immigrants too.

  4. NewFormatSux says:

#16 on your list shows you aren’t paying attention. Planned Parenthood bankrolls the Democratic Party and was opposed to anything that would cut into its abortion profits.

The actual reason given for overriding FDA recommendation is reasonable, as the drug requires followup with a doctor, and it is likely that the scientists were wrong in concluding that young girls would meet with the doctor instead of just taking the pills.

    • Phydeau says:

Actually, NFS, the Democratic Party gets the majority of its money from the same place the Republican party gets its money, from people who have lots of money. Planned Parenthood doesn’t have lots of money.

Though I’m pissing into the wind trying to reason with a Fox News wingnut. :/

      • NewFormatSux says:

So you think they opposed providing abortion drugs for some other reason than Planned Parenthood’s opposition?

        • Phydeau says:

From what I’ve seen PP is in favor of Plan B OTC.

          • NewFormatSux says:

There official position yes. However, Sebelius is their personal candidate who they’ve bankrolled for a decade. If that was what they really wanted, Sebelius would not have overruled the FDA to restrict OTC sales.

          • Phydeau says:

Ah yes, the rich and powerful Planned Parenthood, with millions of dollars to spread around for their nefarious activities… sheesh. 🙄

  5. Tim says:

Well enumerated bill of grievances, Marc.

    Umm, yes.

  6. Sit Down Shut Up says:

I only have one more thing to add…

I don’t quite know just yet how the Republican’s will fuck it up — but they WILL! (Most of ’em are lawyers, you know.)

I say, never settle (on just one party) because if you think you need to settle then you’ve already given up.

  7. Captain Obvious says:

Do you feel better now that you’ve gotten that off your chest?

  8. Ah_Yea says:

“And it’s not just Obama. It’s the democrats who stand silent and put their loyalty with Obama instead of the American people. They know he’s wrong and they silently go along with it. ”

    Beautiful. You nailed it again.

One of the greatest threats to our country was and still is the doctrine of Absolute Immunity.

If someone in our government does something which would get one of us citizens in jail, our government representative should also go to jail. Our own government and our representatives, who represent all of us, should not be above the law. But they are and they act – all of them – as lords over us.

“Absolute immunity bars any action against officials in the conduct of their office even for actions taken maliciously or in bad faith. ”
    http://federalpracticemanual.org/node/48

If we really want to fix our government, we need to make our representatives accountable and give jail time. LOTS OF JAIL TIME.

Funny how political wealth increases far beyond the norm. Are these balloon heads really saavy investors, playing on a level playing field?

  9. bobbo, we think with words, and flower with ideas UNLESS we substitute with the use of labels says:

Marc===kudos and well done. Your best post ever.

What I see is most distressing: you have the progress correct but assume a see saw==that the assault against the working class by the ALREADY TOO RICH through their bought and paid for minions in Gubment will contine, and it will………….

    ……………BUT……………….

    ………………..OBSERVE:

each admin just gets worse: its a RATCHET–constantly driving society down.

The only Hope: VOTE ALL INCUMBENTS OUT OF OFFICE!

Our political system is so bias/so captured by the ALREADY TOO RICH that it makes me physically ill in contemplation. I need some medical MJ…coast out my remaining years in a drug induced fog. Much superior to a political induced fog. I might walk into walls and still be more clear headed than the D’s and R’s still pointing fingers across a manufactured mirage of a divide.

    Again………..good post.

  10. Tom says:

I think Marc is finally totally losing it…

    • Tim says:

Why? Because he forgot to mention that Obama was never anything but another appointed Bush-with-a-tan?

  11. BracketCreep says:

“1. Obama has more aggressively deported Hispanics that any other president.”

    I stopped reading right there.

First, Obama’s crew changed and expanded the definition of “deport” to include those turned around at the border. Of course the deportation numbers are bigger, but they’re comparing apples and orchards.

Second, what’s the reason the author chose the word “Hispanics” instead of illegal alien infiltrator? Is this to appeal to hyper PC bed wetters who think “diversity” is an unalloyed good?

    • Marc Perkel says:

Obama is still deporting people who come to American colleges who get advanced degrees, who our companies want to hire, but they have to go back to where they came from. How stupid is that?

      • Phydeau says:

Not stupid at all, if an American citizen gets that job instead.

Shouldn’t the American government enact policies that benefit American citizens over foreigners?

        • NewFormatSux says:

See point #1. Mark Perkel doesn’t care about jobs for Americans, and would like to open the border.

      • NewFormatSux says:

It’s called following the law. Imagine that.

Now this policy did come up for change, but the immigration advocates objected because Republicans merely wanted to reshape existing immigration allocations, instead of expanding them to include the new group.

  12. NewFormatSux says:

So Democrats should have realized that this list of yours were things that Democrats were upset about because they were heckled by you?

  13. NewFormatSux says:

So if you’re still fighting with us
if you’re still standing with the President
sign our note to President Obama thanking him for all he’s done and letting him know that we have his back.

Thanks again for everything you do.

All of us at the DCCC

  14. NewFormatSux says:

Mark Perkel, you used the wrong picture.

‘To everyone who voted,” President Obama said in his press conference on Wednesday, “I hear you. To the two-thirds of voters who chose not to participate yesterday, I hear you, too.”

For Democrats to stay home, means that Obama is claiming you voted for him. The solution was to vote for his opponents. I saw many people suggesting to vote for Obama because they hated Romney’s winning the primary against the wishes of conservatives. Mitch McConnell said he wanted to destroy the Tea Party, so Tea Party suggested they would vote for Grimes. If it had been a state other than Kentucky, it would have happened, and Bobbo could claim glorious victory.

    ‘for the president’s Nixonian transformation.

Spy on reporters? Check. Bomb a country (or two) without authorization from Congress? Check. Issue dubious claims of executive privilege to conceal embarrassments or prevent scandals? Check. Withdraw from — and lose — an unpopular war he didn’t start? Check. Corrupt IRS? Check. Imperial presidency? Check.

One of the last things on the list was to insist that the silent majority of Americans is really on his side.’

    • Phydeau says:

So we can expect you wingnuts to stop babbling about Obama as a commie liberal progressive, since you think he’s so “Nixonian”?

Nah, who am I kidding? Intellectual consistency was never their forté.

No wait! Nixon was a secret librul, right??? 🙄

      • NewFormatSux says:

Ann Coulter called him a Commie sympathizer. The librul part isn’t so secret. I thought liberals liked the expansion of affirmative action, EEOC, OSHA, and EPA? Plus wage and price controls administered by Donald Rumsfeld.

        • Phydeau says:

Nixon as secret librul… check. 🙄

The next one to get “secret librul” status will be Saint Ronnie Reagan.

And the Republican party goes farther off the deep end…

          • NewFormatSux says:

You’re the one calling Obama a conservative. I guess politics is a big circle.

          • Phydeau says:

So it looks like any Republican from the past who is in any way to the left of the current batshit-crazy Republican policies, or turned out in retrospect to be a crappy president (like Dubya) is retroactively given “secret librul” status.

            Gotcha.

          • NewFormatSux says:

They were looking to dump Nixon at the time, in both 1972 and 1968. Reagan’s name was put forward at the convention.

        • Phydeau says:

Obama is a conservative by the definition of “conservative” in previous generations. The definition of “conservative” established by today’s Republicans is so far off the deep end, no Republicans from previous generations qualify.

      • spsffan says:

Well, Nixon enacted wage and price controls, Amtrak, the EPA, was very cozy with Chairman Mao……..

        • NewFormatSux says:

Even Ann Coulter gave him a pass for Mao. He was playing the Russians and Chinese against each other.

  18. Marc Perkel says:

Yeah – the treasury made a profit thing – no one believes that unless you really want to believe that. The national debt refutes that claim. We lost trillions.

……or…..that Obama should have positioned the Dumbo party as being seen to have deported more or less?

  26. NewFormatSux says:

    >Against gay marriage before he was for it.

Another confused rambling. Obama got higher turnout when he was against gay marriage than when he was for it.

That aside, this point contradicts every other point in your list.

Interesting letter to the editor from a Canadian, about the recent election.

    http://freep.com/story/opinion/readers/2014/11/07/obama-election-republicans-gop-democrats-senate/18606217/

Many of us Canadians are confused by the U.S. midterm elections. Consider, right now in America, corporate profits are at record highs, the country’s adding 200,000 jobs per month, unemployment is below 6%, U.S. gross national product growth is the best of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. The dollar is at its strongest levels in years, the stock market is near record highs, gasoline prices are falling, there’s no inflation, interest rates are the lowest in 30 years, U.S. oil imports are declining, U.S. oil production is rapidly increasing, the deficit is rapidly declining, and the wealthy are still making astonishing amounts of money.

America is leading the world once again and respected internationally — in sharp contrast to the Bush years. Obama brought soldiers home from Iraq and killed Osama bin Laden.

So, Americans vote for the party that got you into the mess that Obama just dug you out of? This defies reason.

When you are done with Obama, could you send him our way?

    • Jonathan says:

Oh, here’s the best one “America is leading the world once again and respected internationally.”

I could dispute these point by point, but why bother…in your case, childlike ignorance is bliss.

      • Tim says:

Imprisoned, fat, derpitudinal, … , apathetic, hedgemonical, spyaimanical, cohersional, conformical, derpitudinal, addicted to extended warranties…

        There seems a western world hierarchy parallel here. I can’t think where I heard it — perhaps someone was quoting Dave Barry;

“”Amongst construction materials, concrete is favored as a desert topping…

      • Phydeau says:

Go ahead, dispute these facts. Stock market is doing well, inflation is low, gas prices are low, unemployment is low (and because people are getting jobs), budget deficit is low.

But I forget, you Fox News viewers have your own reality, in which inflation is out of control, the budget deficit is increasing, gas prices are going up, and unemployment is going up.

        Never mind. Carry on.

        • Jonathan says:

          Lets start here Phydeau:

          http://www.forbes.com/sites/louisefron/2014/08/20/tackling-the-real-unemployment-rate-12-6/

“Despite the significant decrease in the official U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) unemployment rate, the real unemployment rate is over double that at 12.6%. This number reflects the government’s “U-6” report, which accounts for the full unemployment picture including those “marginally attached to the labor force,” plus those “employed part time for economic reasons.” ”

We can argue the national debt later. Since I can see you think living on credit is a strong economic policy.
