The First Amendment of course protects the freedom of speech, press, religion, and (ironically) the right to petition. But by framing the measure as a way to end microagressions and preserve “safe spaces,” Horowitz got fifty students to sign the the petition in the hour he spent collecting signatures.

“I think this is fantastic. I absolutely agree,” one male student says.

“Excellent!” said another female student. “Love it.”

“You shouldn’t be exposed to things you don’t want to hear,” Horowitz tells one student signing the petition, as she murmurs her agreement.

I think Yale needs to raise their admission standards a notch or two.

I was going to go to the link, but I don’t want to get sick.

micro….agressions vs FREEEEEEEE speech. Dosn’t seem like there is an issue at all even using just the titles of the issues involved.

Freedom of Speech is a sacred thing, hammered out over the past 250 years of court decisions. Only restricts what the gubment can do….and that sets up a nicely balanced laboratory for society as well.

Each with their Pros and Cons.

FREEdom of Speech: should be as absolute as practical. I think our system has struck the right balance with a few very narrow exceptions we could argue about: NSA, FOIA, various privileges like spousal and so forth…… but on the whole well done.

Ooops–gotta say equating cash to free speech is horrendously bad, but that is almost not even a free speech issue but rather a Money Corrupts issue. Ha, ha. I’m full of it. Supremes attacking our entire political/societal underpinnings with that bad decision. Guns not much better.

Current Supreme Ct: worst in my memory. got to get the Dems back in majority.

    • NewFormatSux says:

So what about books printed with money? Is that free press?
      A movie made with money?

  2. Hawkeye says:

I would like to see how that petition was worded.

  3. bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

“I think Yale needs to raise their admission standards a notch or two.” /// I was thinkin bout whether or not challenging students was or should be part of the curriculum or more generally the entire experience.

So, not really “raising” the notch but choosing for the right shape? Seems to me a trade school is where you go to learn certain skills and not to be challenged in general thinking skills at all. Should colleges be the same? Universities?? Ivy League Universities????

A question of degree or subject matter? Challenged by opposing ideas or challenged only to support your own idea? close but two different degrees of discomfort.

I’d like to see the change over time from Fresh to Grad on such a survey. Does that attitude get better or worse???

Actually…… too many folks going college ….. but thats a whole other issue.

    • el Gato says:

Yes too many think they need to go to college to succeed. Its become a money grab and it needs to be addressed.

Affirmative action is a part of the problem. Lowering the academic standard in the name of “fairness” benefits no one.

  4. Andrea says:

Earplugs, headphones, and fingers created a lot of “safe spaces”.

  5. IM72 says:

I know this was a joke, but why did Fox News make it look like people were taking it seriously?

    • Mr Diesel says:

Because the people did take it seriously. I work on a campus and they are just that stupid, including faculty.

    • noname says:

Anyone who thinks this could only happen at Yale or any college campus is extremely unawares of people and society!

This could have been done anywhere practically, with good wordsmithing and salesmanship!

How do you think the real estate market correction of 2006–2007 happened, good wordsmithing and salesmanship!

Have to agree with IM72; what fools are taking this seriously?

  6. The Pirate says:

    More education – less rights!
Vote Hillary – She’ll get ‘er done!

  7. NewFormatSux says:

What is wrong with what they said? It is part of the official platform of the Democratic Party who wish to amend the Constitution to reverse Citizens United decision, and it was Republican Senator McCain who said he would ban negative ads who got his law passed that did about as much of that as he could get away with, until the Supreme Court reversed some of it.
Even now, you are not allowed to put up an ad on TV critical of a government official against whom you are running unless you also say ,”I’m McCullough and I approve this message.”

  8. McCullough says:

John McCain needs to retire to Florida and patrol the beach with his metal detector.

I’m McCullough and I approved this message.

    • NewFormatSux says:

No, no, the benevolent benefactors in Congress made the rule so that it is only within 60 days of an election.

  9. jpfitz says:

Today the college students are not critical thinkers, if someone puts a clipboard under their noses with a passionate plea to save the whales or human beings feeling, the sheep sign. Scary!

    Bull Shit
    https://youtube.com/watch?v=yi3erdgVVTw

    • Mr Diesel says:

Yes, “Save the unborn gay baby whales to reduce climate change” is pretty easy to get signed.

      • jpfitz says:

Gay whales and puppies. The youth of today don’t care about human rights..only animal rights. And what the hell is a safe speech zone? It sounds like a bunch of pussies are frightened of being called pussies. If there is a God, please smite these fools.

        • noname says:

Yelp, it would be paradise when the world is populated with brains like “Mr Diesels” and “jpfitz”?

          • jpfitz says:

Yelp? Anyway, the world is populated with both the brains you believe would create paradise. I tend to disagree. Paradise is a place of timeless harmony.

Since you, noname, is also spinning on this blue orb I see no chance for harmony.
That is unless you were being honest.

          • noname says:

            Where was I not honest?

          • NewFormatSux says:

Good one jp, you’ve confused noname.

          • noname says:

No doubt nFs feels deep down inside what it claims. But hey, show me wrong, if you dare, if you can….

Where was I not honest and where am I confused?

Are you sad I am not playing your reindeer games?

            Looking forward to your reply!

        • NewFormatSux says:

Oh confused one with no name, we think you are being less than honest when you say
it would be paradise when the world is populated with brains like “Mr Diesels” and “jpfitz”

  10. spsffan says:

This is what you get with a generation raised on the principle that everyone gets a trophy just for showing up and breathing.

    Well, this and Ethan Couch.

  11. jpfitz says:

I just read what “safe space” Actually IS and now my wife is telling me to stop cursing. @%$&%&****

I WANT OFF OF THIS RIDE!

    O.k. I counted to ten…deep breathing exercises.

How can this be reversed? If changes to the propaganda feed the next generation is not made now, then, we are all screwed.

    • bobbo, the pragmatic existential evangelical anti-theist says:

I’ll bite. What is a safe place? I thought in the main they were womens and kiddies safe houses? Safe against spousal abuse.

      • jpfitz says:

Here’s your answer. Now don’t think of me as a homophobic or intolerant, I’ve had enough of This kaitlyn jenner shite and the moral breakdown of this country over the past 40 years.

        Source: Wikipedia
“In educational institutions, safe-space (or safe space), safer-space, and positive space are terms used to indicate that a teacher, educational institution or student body do not tolerate perceived anti-LGBT violence, harassment, hate speech or disagreement, but rather are open and accepting to opinions aligned to their own, thereby creating a safe place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and all students.”

        • Manny says:

You sir, need to kill yourself, white boy.

We compel you to check your white, heterosexual, none-transgender, anti-reparations, anti-sharia law hating self. Embrace illegal immigrants and bring them into your arms. Pay for it through your taxes with enthusiasm. Admit that as a white man, you, sir are GUILTY. And need to Pay, and pay you will.

Then you will be one with the progressive majority.

          You know, like noname.

          • noname says:

Wow, Manny are you are the murderous one.

Congratulations on taking “Hitler like steps” from feeling insulted to feelings (no doubt with actions too) of rampant indiscriminate wanton murder.

If only people would give you power over them to enact your schemes? But, it is a smart choice to get support first at easily befuddled and offended university campuses with people who live isolated from reality in ivory towers of nonsense. Good luck in the real world!

No doubt and evident you spent many years with others cultivating and learning your self-delusion and enablement of democracy denial and embrace of simple evil and hate in the name of inclusivism. As you delve deeper into your chasm of hatred for robust debate and democracy, you will see more self-reinforcing reasons why you’re so right and everyone else is so wrong.

Maybe to educate the masses your will write a book of your learning and reason, like “Mein Kampf”?

          • jpfitz says:

Careful Manny, karma’s a bitch. I don’t consider myself prejudiced, you obviously are and reacted with violent rhetoric. You don’t know ME, or my plight in life.

I wish you joy and happiness Manny. Grow up and enjoy life.
