I played during the beta and for 6 months after it went live. I pulled multiple 3 and 4 o’clock play sessions and had to get up at 6:00. I had the lowest play time of anyone in my guild.

I quit cold turkey after 6 months. It truly was a drug.

Did I mention I am married and have 2 small kids?

That game is mental and psychological crack mixed with heroin stuffed inside a crystal meth chocolate covered candy.

  6. Jeff says:

This game is utter nonsense. I have two main complaints. The first is that the game uses a fantasy plot (it reminds me of those nerd ass Two-Ring movies, or whatever). The second, you have to pay about $15 a month to go around doing things that are not even logical. I must be part of the male population that just doesn’t get this stuff. It would, however, be a kind of birth control for me too (because after ten minutes of playing it, it would put me to sleep).

What are utter waste of time (and technology). Hell, Second Life sounds more interesting (at least you get to have a conversation with someone who might actually be a real person).

The only real online role playing game that I have found that I can play is Ultimate Baseball Online. Here to I am limited to at most an hour a day (because it is simply not realistic, and the graphics are so primitive).

I’m sorry, but I think the data about WoW addiction is still inconclusive. More study is needed, yes more study, much more study, almost level 50 now…

  8. Bev says:

Probably does nothing to reduce libido but everything to reduce responsibility for daily chores …

  9. Danijel says:

    Jeff,

Classic comments for someone who just doesn’t know the game up-close. But let’s take it step at a time:
    1) The game was released right around the time Lord of the RIngs movie. You might not like fantasy, but the over a billion of dollars grossed on the third part of the movie shows the majority of the people think otherwise.
    2) Paying a monthly fee for a computer game does seem a bit strange, but they have ways to convince people to pay up. For one, you’re monthly bill actually decreases cause you spend less time in bars or eating and more time sitting in front of a computer…
    3) Second Life is something completely different, a social networking program and not really a game. In fact, I see nothing new or special about SL cause I’ve been playing around ActiveWorlds already 8 years ago and noone seemed to care that much… In WoW, you can also communicate with other players, but there is a distinct difference: WoW has a goal, a purpose, if you like and it is very well designed, because people who made the game had decades of experience in making these types of games. They really made and effort to create a playble and quite addictive product. The guys as SL didn’t do anything. They let users create their own world…
