I could never get the hang of Rubik’s cube. Just didn’t have the patience for it, I guess. But this, created by artist Andrew Fentem, is for the true geek. Rather than twist the sides, you just run your finger over them.

Featuring a unique ultra-bright (even in daylight) full-colour cubic screen and a unique cubic multitouch touchscreen technology (patent pending) this games platform has been programmed to implement various multi-dimensional games, puzzles, and lighting effects.

Fentem has created a lot of other really cool things as well.

Over recent years I have explored several areas of cutting-edge electronics research and interface development. The primary aim of this research work has been the creation of intellectual property relating to the design of electronic entertainment devices. Of particular technical significance are the pioneering research-based advances in the fields of multi-touch touchsceens, multi-object-tracking, kinetic surfaces, and RFID hardware.

I’ve seen many kids solve Rubik’s Cube in seconds. I could never solve it. There has to be some trick or system.

The video has broken already. That was quick!

PS. I’ve solved all forms of these, except for the decahedron one. Now that’s a toughie. Not long ago I picked up an “Orbix” puzzle, from a thrift store. It uses ten lighted push buttons (all white), which must either be all on or all off. After about two days I solved that as well. I haven’t seen this new lighted, touch sensitive cube yet. But I think it would make solving it a lot easier, if all one needed to do was to “tap” an edge or corner to cause the lights to move in that direction. And not a finger rubbing motion. But this still may not win any speed records, over the older version.

I wonder if you could get a “save” function built into this thingie ?!? Nothing else, you could prove you’re a real creative genius.
