DEBKAfile – DEBKAfile Exclusive: Al Qaeda declares Cyber Jihad on the West — I doubt that these boneheads will get very far. If they manage to use a botnet perhaps this will prompt some action to crack down on the spammers who create these nets.
In a special Internet announcement in Arabic, picked up DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources, Osama bin Laden’s followers announced Monday, Oct. 29, the launching of Electronic Jihad. On Sunday, Nov. 11, al Qaeda’s electronic experts will start attacking Western, Jewish, Israeli, Muslim apostate and Shiite Web sites. On Day One, they will test their skills against 15 targeted sites expand the operation from day to day thereafter until hundreds of thousands of Islamist hackers are in action against untold numbers of anti-Muslim sites.
DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources report that, shortly after the first announcement, some of al Qaeda’s own Web sites went blank, apparently crashed by the American intelligence computer experts tracking them.
The next day, Oct. 30, they were up again, claiming their Islamic fire walls were proof against infidel assault.

How many of you have gone to the NET, with a NEW install of windows to get the Updates, and programs for windows and to keep it clean?
I have many times, and there is this STRANGE popup, that comes from NOWHERE. It says there are problems with windows and you are vulnerable, HIT ‘ok’ to fix….
NEVER hit ‘OK’, you hit the X’ in the upper right…and pray..
What is funny, is that it doesnt matter WHERE my first page is, this ALWAYS pops up. Its al OLD backdoor into windows thru IE, and its being broadcast to every connection out there….Has anyone EVER tried to track it?? And fix the machines DOING IT??
Shutting down botnets means 1 out of every 4 computers, John ! How much sense does that make ? You want to shut down various schools and universities because CA is hogging up everybody’s IT dollars ?
#4 – your computer is infected with spyware. Use one of the free spyware cleaners (Kaperspy, Ad-aware, Spybot) to fix it.
And the way that Russia is kissing the hairy butt of Iran to keep their revenue streams alive I can see al Qaeda out-sourcing their Cyber Jihad to Russian hackers–with the full blessing of the Russian government.

Let them try to infect any of my networks! They will find themselves neck deep in honeypots. If they try it, they WILL get caught quickly.
Even at home, I don’t think they can get through my assortment of hardware and software firewalls. Heck, NAT routers are about thirty bucks! String them together, and let’s see them get through!

You should not put a NEW system on a network until critical patches are applied from a local drive. I think the systems are being exploited within minutes of booting with a connection to the internet.

“They” don’t need to infect your network or computers to cause grief if they attack and cripple the internet infrastructure.
Just don’t run windows and you won’t have to worry about the botnets…
#10 – the majority of bot infections are caused by people clicking on links in email and on Web pages, or running Trojan horse programs. No amount of NAT and fire-walling can prevent an infection that you (unwittingly) invite to be installed on your computer.
I wonder how they expect to attack western tech without bringing their own communication down.
I know a TON of Muslims (including a few radicals) and they all use Hotmail, Yahoo, Google, etc. etc.
There is some serious hypocrisy among the anti-Western Muslims — they advocate a total boycott against all things western but they complain using western tools and technology!
The Taliban, for instance, literally beheaded people for having “idolatrous” images, satellite dishes, DVDs etc, etc,
But what is Al Qaeda’s tool of choice for getting out their messages? Images, satellite TV channels, DVDs, etc etc.

Woody, even his own generals thought he had WMDs. Maybe he did, maybe they got shipped to Syria like some claim, maybe he did destroy them, but /everybody/ in the intellegence industry, in all nations, thought he had them.
(He was probably worried that Iran would invade or the Kurds would revolt again if he publicly destroyed them like the cease fire agreement called for, so he kept playing games.)
(He had a few left-overs laying around when the US went looking, but the MSM kept redifining “WMD”, and Bush did not push the matter for some crazy reason. Not many, but they were there. Rove was a defensive fighter, waiting for the other side to make a mistake, instead of being proactive and pushing the other to make mistakes. Well when their video was leaked by the White House, the people watching AlQaeda’s website said it was impressive how thorough they were in taking down their website in minutes.
i’ve seen a lot of activity in our server logs from address in iran attempting to gain access using a number of common vulnerabilites over the past few weeks.
I suspect that a great deal of snoop programs will be logging packets on the net… These guys will have to be very careful to not get caught….
Then the fun will really begin.
You know, this could be a good thing.. hear me out.. if they do this, then the machines that are effected will be exposed, and whats more, we can learn who they did it and get a tighter grip.. also.. i’m sorry but its so obvious the tricks they do to bot your machine in the first place, its just your own falt if you get one.

Which Generals knew Iraq still had WMDs? I so often hear this crap and always without anything to back it up. Care to point out some research that can back it up?

#26, I think this is a reference to Iraqi soldiers wearing gas masks. But that just means they thought the US had WMD.
I think there were also some soldiers who did think Iraq had WMD. There may very well have been an elaborate shell game being played by elements in the Iraqi government, perhaps to convince Saddam that all that research he wanted was going forward.
There are 2 problems, with this…
the MAIN servers that control MOST of the internet ARE NOT windows based, Unix and Linux. THOSe are the ones you REALLy want to hit to take DOWN the net.
IF they are only aiming at WINDOWS based machines. Its a good challenge for MS. and a great way to have a reason for SUEING MS for leaving vulnerabilities ON the machines.
