What Rielle Hunter Told Me | Newsweek Politics | Newsweek.com — This is just too good to ignore. A Newsweek reporter and his encounter with the John Edwards woman, Rielle Hunter. Hilarious. Of course he completely missed the story when it happened.

I struck up a conversation with the woman at the next event, as we waited outside. She told me her name and asked me what my astrological sign was, which I thought was a little unusual. I told her. She smiled, and began telling me her life story: how she was working as a documentary-film maker, living with a friend in South Orange, N.J., but how she’d previously had “many lives.” She’d worked, she said, as an actress and as a spiritual adviser. She was fiercely devoted to astrology and New Age spirituality. She’d been a New York party girl, she’d been married and divorced, she’d been a seeker and a teacher and was a firm believer in the power of truth.

She told me that she had met Edwards at a bar, at the Regency Hotel in New York. She thought he was giving off a special “energy.” I didn’t pursue the topic…I would soon learn that there was no such thing as small talk with Rielle Hunter. She told me that she’d felt a connection to me when we’d first met, that she could tell I was a very old soul. This meant a lot to Rielle. Her speech was peppered with New Age jargon—human beings were dragged down by “blockages” to their actual potential; history was the story of souls entering and escaping our field of consciousness. A seminal book for her had been Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of Now.” Her purpose on this Earth, she said, was to help raise awareness about all this, to help the unenlightened become better reflections of their true, repressed selves.

Her latest project was John Edwards. Edwards, she said, was an old soul who had barely tapped into any of his potential. The real John Edwards, she believed, was a brilliant, generous, giving man who was driven by competing impulses—to feed his ego and serve the world. If he could only tap into his heart more, and use his head less, he had the power to be a “transformational leader” on par with Gandhi and Martin Luther King. “He has the power to change the world,” she said.

The picture is worth a thousand words. Nicely done.

  2. Paddy-O says:

“Hilarious. Of course he completely missed the story when it happened.”

Would be nice if the news media would hire real reporters…

  3. bobbo says:

So she is now living rent free in a 3 Million Dollar Mansion, has a child, and is getting $15K/month for expenses.

Being a purveyor of new age insights can be very profitable and self fulfilling?

  4. Mister Mustard says:

If I were a reporter and I encountered that woman outside an “event”, not only would I completely miss the story, but I would RUN, not walk, the other way.

Once a kook like that latches onto you, there’s no getting rid of them. Had the guy stuck around, he’d probably be reading about himself in the headlines, with bogus stories about how he was the one who fathered her love child.

And wtf is with that new weird name she adopted? Did Eckhart Tolle tell her that was better than her real name?

    Some people need treatment, bad.

  5. Yes, MM, she seems to give off a psycho vibe.

  6. The Monster's Lawyer says:

She all but said she was fucking Edwards ears off.

  7. Eric says:

Ah, so she fancied herself as a sort of Spiritual Guide, with benefits.

  8. Sean O'Hara says:

What a stupid ditz — everyone knows the blockages are called “Thetans”. Geez!

  9. KwadGuy says:

All I can do is thank Rielle for ensuring that we won’t have to endure this unbearable system leach of a trial lawyer anymore on the national political stage.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  10. The Monster's Lawyer says:

Hey keep it down back there! Lawyers are people too you know.

  11. Offroad says:

Guys & Gals, I know of many friends who are of the newage mind set. Many have almost a perminant happy attitude no matter what the circumstance. Simplisticly mocked by many (but their beliefs are not simple); yet as a whole they seem to be much happier than you or I. So tell me, who is the better? The happy simple person (like Edwards fling mistress) or the miserable all knowing sob? John D. your answer?

  12. Mr. Fusion says:

    Mustard,

I got to go with your take on this. Just reading about her gives me a queasy feeling.

    #2, Cow-Paddy,

Would be nice if the news media would hire real reporters…

Sometimes reporters don’t know just how close they are to the story. If you add 2 + 2 and get 4, don’t worry that someone else thought the answer was 5. Although she might have, apparently she didn’t have anything he could have made a story out of other than the one blurb he wrote.

  13. mike cannali says:

Edwards was right there are “Two Americas”:
One is screwing Rielle Hunter; the other already has.

  14. mike cannali says:

    Just wait for the revelation:
    – John Edwards will continue to offer his DNA for a paternity test.
    – Rielle Hunter will refuse to allow her baby to be tested ( so long as Edwards offers her $15K / month)
    – The National Enquirer comes up with an ear swab, popsicle stick, or full diaper loaded with Edwards derivative DNA.
    – Then we will know what John Edwards is made of: (same thing that fills the diaper).

  15. Cap'nKangaroo says:

John Edwards had her working on his soul. Barak Obama has Oprah. Oprah just does a better job of hiding the “psycho vibe”.

  16. Special Ed says:

    Attention whore!

  17. GregAllen says:

I confess to being attracted to crazy chicks in college. Most had no interest in me, thank goodness.
