A spokeswoman for screen legend Paul Newman says the actor has died at age 83.

Spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic says Newman died Friday of cancer. No other details were immediately available.

Newman was nominated for Academy Awards 10 times, winning a regular Oscar in 1987 for “The Color of Money” and two honorary ones. He was equally at home in comedies such as “The Sting” and dramas such as “Hud.”

He sometimes teamed with his wife, Joanne Woodward, also an Oscar winner for the 1957 film “Three Faces of Eve.”

    I’ll be there.

Too bad your fat ass won’t be able to make it to the top.

  2. J says:

I have a feeling that Mr. newman might be there too and with any luck he will bring a lighting storm with him.

    Makes sense. Been there.

I grew up along the Front Range. Did a lot of riding in the 4 corners area though.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up for Jr “doing” any better. You just can’t reach some men (or children in J’s case).

The sign of a great movie is one that is still relevant decades after it is made. Cool Hand Luke and The Hustler are in that category.

#34. That scene was shot at Bakers Bridge about 6 miles North of Durango. It’s a beautiful area, and the ledge was really only about 5 ft above the river….the magic of Hollywood.

    I love Durango. You’re lucky.

I guess this post shows the demographics! I didn’t know Paul Newman for his movies. I am a little young for that.

But I do know him for his awesomely wonderful food. The tastiest stuff ever, it was natural and that all profits were donated. Oh and they didn’t sell it at Wal-Mart!!! Yes!

Today’s celebritards could take some lessons.

I will have to check out some of his movies. Give me the top 3 folks:

    #38. My picks:

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

    Hud

    “The Long Hot Summer”

“The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean”

    and one of his latest

    The Road to Perdition

  9. Bert says:

Paul Nerwman was one actor who carried the movie. If you saw his name in the list of stars you knew it was a film that was entertaining and worth while. We have lost a great one.

  10. Tman says:

Here’s a couple of famous quotes:

‘wish you’d stop bein’ so good to me Cap’n’ from Cool Hand Look,

    and

    Hud:
“The only question I ever ask any woman is, ‘what time is your husband coming home?’”

  11. movie fan says:

I have always admired Paul Newman for putting his money to work in such productive ways… His Newman’s Own stuff is high quality and the proceeds go to good causes

  12. macktruck743 says:

He was a great person who was “about something, ” not like the prima donnas in HOllywood today.

My dream was to meet him, but that never happened.
