1. god says:

Wish I spoke Chinese. I’m certain their first moments of spacewalk were as rehearsed as ours or the Russians – but, it’s still a kick for a longtime space geek.

  2. Don says:

It looks fake. They are really in a warehouse in Mongolia.

    Don

  3. Paddy-O says:

I saw this video 2 weeks ago.

  4. Buzz says:

In outer space, everyone can hear you clap.

  5. Somebody_Else says:

    We are so screwed.

  6. Jim W. says:

It appears to be a tethered spacewalk. Meaning he’s getting his air and power from a tether line.

I would have thought they might have used a fully self contained system like the U.S. does. But I guess you have to start somewhere.

Welcome to the Space Age guys.

  7. Bill says:

I really like how the flag flaps in the wind…

  8. Personality says:

The Chinese lie about everything. I have a hard time believing that the really did this.

  9. Tecban says:

#7 In a vacuum there is no air resistance, so the momentum of the holder’s motions carry on longer than we’re used to seeing on earth.

Mythbusters’ moon landing episode demonstrated this exact behavior with a U.S. flag in a vacuum chamber.

  10. Satman says:

nothing better after a tiring spacewalk than some good old reconstituted space milk and cookies.Oh cripes…Bejing, we have a problem…

  11. Tecban says:

#8 If we could do it in the 60s, there
s no reason to think the Chinese couldn’t do today.

Too bad none of our $700 billion bailout of the Wall Street casinos can be used for space exploration, medical research, alternative energy, health care…

  12. OvenMaster says:

These are the same guys that had the leaked conversation aboard their ship posted online even before it got off the ground, right?

    So, let’s see.

    Russia has cosmonauts.
    The US has astronauts.
    The Chinese have… lychee n(a)uts?

Sorry… it had to be said.

  13. Homer says:

Welcome to the space party China! Go China, Go China, Goooo Chiiinnnaaa! Whoop Whoop. Seriously,
Any country that engages in space exploration for either scientific achievment or a political statement has guts AND vision. You may not like China, but they are part of the club now. Might as well let them in on the secret hadshake.

  14. Awake says:

Be nice… they will be giving US astronauts rides in a couple of years.

According to the OFFICIAL NASA schedule, the Space Shuttle will stop flying in 2010, after which time there will be no (as in none, zero, nada) US manned space vehicles active.

There is some project to build a replacement rocket, but it is all new and never been built, much less test… what do you think the odds are of that being finished within the next 15 years?

So for the foreseeable future, the US astronaut program depends on the Russians for their flights.

USA! USA! USA! usa! usa! usa! usa? usa? usa? us…..

  15. admfubar says:

this chinese space program was brought to you by NAFTA, and the letters F and U.

  16. Rick Cain says:

Its all Russian technology. They will sell that stuff to anybody, and only China has a big enough checkbook.

  17. Jägermeister says:

#15 – admfubar – this chinese space program was brought to you by NAFTA…

    ¿Que?

  18. Jägermeister says:

#16 – Rick Cain – Its all Russian technology.

Most of it. But it’s just a learning phase for the Chinese. They’ll buy what they can and put money towards S&D for the rest. One day they’ll use their own stuff.

  19. Paddy-O says:

#18 “They’ll buy what they can and put money towards S&D for the rest.”

All of their high tech has come from Russia & the US.

China hasn’t, as of yet, developed any major high tech.

  20. Jägermeister says:

#19 – Paddy-O – All of their high tech has come from Russia & the US.

Throughout history, all nations have been stealing from other nations. Just look at Europe… the wheel wasn’t invented there… neither was the gunpowder. The US stole a lot of European know-how.

China hasn’t, as of yet, developed any major high tech.

    Don’t worry… they will.

  21. Awake says:

    #20 Jägermeister

    You are correct.
Just think of Japan in the 1950’s for proof. Started off with ‘borrowed’ USA technology and ended up with much better ‘stuff’ than the USA. Making stuff be better requires innovation. The original idea may not be theirs, but the way to do it right certainly is. And in the end, ideas are nice only if you can follow through.

  22. Jägermeister says:

#21 – Awake – And in the end, ideas are nice only if you can follow through.

The expression Ideas are worth a dime a dozen comes to mind.

The Chinese are hungry for success and pride… Just think of the US space program in the 60s… it’s amazing what kind of achievements you can make when you’ve got goals and a population who wants to achieve them…

  23. amodedoma says:

Too bad the US has been spending so much on war and losing so much on deregulated S&L’s. Oh well, as long as somebody’s running the space race.

  24. Jemal K. says:

Oh my God! I am so happy that finally China has finished their space walk!We can finally move on to another level. Even if they are 30 years behind from the Russia’s first space walk, I still am very happy that they have done it. I don’t know why everyone is so mean about china’s first modern discovery. I mean, you should be proud! Man, you guys are so negative, well that would be some of you guys. But I still am angry that the US is having the war, they don’t have to wait, they could move on their space stuff. I mean look at Russia, They are so ahead from all the countries. It’s just amazing how they are always the first people to do something new!
