• Real Networks sued by MPAA.
  • It snows on Mars.
  • Charles Simonyi going back into space.
  • Microsoft thinks that it’s a killer app or two away from beating Google. Har.
  • Lotus Notes to run on the iPhone.
  • Microsoft attacking “Scareware.” Good for them, hear all about it here.
  • Lenovo wants to buy another company. I think Sun Microsystems would be ideal.
  • IPOs hit 30-year low. You cannot do an IPO in the USA thanks to Sarbanes-Oxley.

Google is down 60 points (15%) today – I wonder if Sergey Brin is worried about his mortgage payments.

  2. Jägermeister says:

Charles Simonyi forgot his car keys on the ISS…

  3. Improbus says:

The last killer app Microsoft came out with was Office/Exchange. What have they done lately?

    #3 – Improbus

    Zune? 😉 😀

  5. brendal says:

Now that’s a snow globe you won’t find at the airport gift shop…

  6. James Hill says:

The “it snows on Mars” comment in the news the other day caught my attention, too. Shouldn’t that be getting more attention?

  7. QB says:

The snow on Mars is coolest story I’ve seen in a while. Thanks for highlighting it.

Lotus Notes isn’t “clunky”, it’s biggest piece of crap on the planet. Or maybe second biggest after BizTalk.

BEST point in time to JUMP the market..
WHEN its ALL hit the dirt..
Then WATCH as parts CRASH and PARTS ZOOM.

NOW. and the NEXT 5 years.

Just another example of legislative bungling.

Thank you Sarbanes-Oxley for shutting down IPO’s and moving the viable ones to London.

  10. Glenn E. says:

Wrong movie reference John. Try “The Princess Bride”, where Fezzik is hauling himself, Vizzini, and Buttercup, up a cliff. And Westley is managing to catch them up. But I don’t know if this has a convenient sound byte.

Water, water, everywhere, and not a drop to drink (on Mars). If you’ve ever seen the movie “Futureworld”, they were simulating a red snow covered Mars, than you could ski. So they’ve been pretending this snow existed for decades. And what do you know, they found it. Or what amounts to frost. Which doesn’t actually have to fall as snow. NASA shouldn’t pretend to be weather experts.

Windows XP has its own form of Scareware, called services.msc. It often tells you, “If you turn this service off, bad things will happen to your PC.” So basically they want you to leave every service running, no matter how unless it is. Rather than it advising you under what conditions, it may be safe to disable a service. Like, you don’t have a wireless card. So you don’t need the “Wireless Zero Configuration” service.

  11. #1 They stopped trading in Google since those trades were sketchy…hacked or something.
