If there’s anything that proves al-Qaeda and associates are about political power, oppressive control and money rather than religious issues, it’s stories like this.

Reunited: boys saved from slavers

A senior member of an Islamic organisation linked to Al-Qaeda is funding his activities through the kidnapping of Christian children who are sold into slavery in Pakistan.

The Sunday Times has established that Gul Khan, a wealthy militant who uses the base of Jamaat-ud Daawa (JUD) near Lahore, is behind a cruel trade in boys aged six to 12.

They are abducted from remote Christian villages in the Punjab and fetch nearly £1,000 each from buyers who consign them to a life of misery in domestic servitude or in the sex trade.

Khan was exposed in a sting organised by American and Pakistani missionaries who decided to save 20 such boys and return them to their homes. Using a secret camera, they filmed him accepting $28,500 (£15,000) from a Pakistani missionary posing as a businessman who said he wanted to set up an operation in which the boys would beg for cash on the streets.

Hafez Muhamed Sayeed, its leader, was accused of inciting riots in Pakistan this year with speeches denouncing western “depravity” after a Danish newspaper published cartoons of the prophet Muhammad.

“…denouncing western depravity.” Talk about irony.

The problem is that when the only ones you find are nasty, you can’t brush off the image even if you know it’s wrong and bigot until you actually find someone nice; it’s because of a few that the rest gets tarnished.

One of the reasons the Taliban was able to take power was because they shut down stuff like this. Now Kandahar has lots of open pedophilia again.

  7. joshua says:

then don’t you find it strange that they don’t mind where the money comes from in Pakistan??

I’ve heard before that the Taleban kept things under control, but look at the general cost of that control. And they never stopped the poppy growers from growing and selling.

We did have a program of paying them not to grow poppy’s, but I don’t know if it is still going.

As to the slave trade, it’s not just boys, but girls and it’s not just under the Taleban or Al Quida, but all to common throughout the Muslim world.

I’ve been thinking about how to manage the fundamentalists. The conclusion arrived at is that they cannot be unfundamentalised by external force. Only internal force can change them. Internal force must come by free will, but with a window available to them to reach outside if they so wish. The U.S. is using force to try to change their fundamentist minds. It cannot be done, short of killing every single Muslim who holds an Islamic fundamentalist world view. History has proven that this cannot be done. Yes, it has been tried over, and over again. Since their inception the Jews (10,000 years), the Christians (2,000 years), and the Muslims (1,400 years) have survived slavery, persecution, wars, famine, holocaust and vituperation. It has been made clear that their belief system is solidly anchored into a fundamentalist concrete foundation. Nothing will penetrate it. The only way out is to SPLIT. Not splitting an atom. But rather, splitting belief. THE solution is not annihilating a lower belief system but to create an avenue to a higher belief system which invites lower forms of beliefs only when they are ready to convert to higher ones. No forcing, just an invitation when they are ready. The Bush administration has attempted to pave that avenue, an Avenue of Americas, in their territory. This is like them coming here to pave a road to perdition. They are not welcome contrary to their whole-hearted sincerity. No, we must leave them alone, but offer a way out. Walking one day in Boro Park during Passover this year gave me this idea. Boro Park is the largest enclave of Orthodox Jews (outside of Israel) in NYC. That neighborhood is 99% Jews. The one percent not Jews are the service people, like mailmen and policemen, that transverse their containment because they have to. They are CONTAINED. That is what should be done in the Middle East. If Iraq wants to be a fundamentalist state LET THEM. Let them be 99% fundamentalist citizens. Let them have nuclear weapons. But LET’S STAY OUT OF THEIR BUSINESS. We do not have to fear. The day they decide to use nukes on outside communities, let them. It may kill many innocent people but it would justify a dialogue of violence that fundamentalists will understand, namely “an eye for an eye”. This will give us the moral obligation to return a nuke, with love– not hatred. Since that state would be nearly 100% fundamentalist Islamic then wiping out the WHOLE state with nuclear weapons would be justified. Killing 230,000,000 million fundamentalists would be justified because it would be like just killing ONE. You see, they are all COPIES. A copy is just a copy. It doesn’t matter how many there are. Destroy one copy is the same as destroying a billion copies. Once we contain them then a STATE of fundamentalism can be destroyed. Probably, if we stay out of their business the world could live in peace because we allow them to live the way they want. We meddle because we have interests in something they hold: OIL. It’s time to leave them alone, let them self-contain and offer those that want a way out an invitation to America. AND, be courageous to find an alternative to oil.

That’s all fine and dandy Dave unless you and your children happen to live in their nuke target zone then you’re not so tough I bet.

I appreciate that you have an opinion and can articulate it when most people cannot, regardless as to whether you agree with that opinion or not. But man o man can you really be serious?

Sit back and let people die then step foreword and save the day? This reminds me off all those Gilligan episodes where the skipper hits his head yells ‘owe!’ THEN Gilligan says ‘watch your head skipper’. I agree the fundamentalist muslims should be put down for the safety of all human life that could potentially be one of their victims, but holy cow – not your way.

Like medicine it’s better to treat the cancer in it’s infancy that it is when it’s full blown. Let’s not kill the patient to cure the disease.

As for the slavery issue, I am stunned that so many people are so cavalier about this. These children are someone’s sons’ and daughters. Your children go to school play sports play with dolls and where pig tails and are relatively safe (compared to these children that is) now imagine a muslim fundamentalist kidnapping them for a sex trade for your children to be used and abused by some sub human low life (anyone not just muslim that would do this to people much less children qualifies for sub human). I mean come on people these are human beings.

You mention slavery in the US and black people are up in arms (Not without due right) but you mention it happening to children in Islamic countries and the reaction ‘ya, so what’.

Where is the Liberal outrage? Where is the Liberal indignation? (for that matter where is the conservatives?) There reason I point most to the liberal in this case is that they are the group that ‘stereotypically’ reacts first and most to issues such as this.

Where are the headlines on this? Instead people are more concerned with what Hilary has on her ipod, oh my God! What sports star is doing drugs, and what movie star is sleeping with who? What has happened to us?

The only ones who are not so cavalier are the missionaires who launched the sting in the first place. Whare the heck is the ACLU or the Bill Clintons (or conservative too in this case) of the world during this?

Dave you keep repeating to be courageous, how about you try it instead of being so isolationist and willingot let people get nuked.

    to awake #15

Oh come on. Once could say of you…

Having spoken once to a leftist liberal I can tell you everything you ever heard about them is true – and, in spite of public opinoin, the women are just as bad.

    How ridiculous this statement is.

I have known many muslims some are wonderful people and some were complete jerks, and some of the jerks I would say were scum.
Someof the wonderful people were just that, wonderful. One was a programmer who took me under his wing and showed me somehting we were working on and he clarified many things and he helped people.
I have heard other muslims praise osama, al qaide (Speling?) and the taliban.

To make blanket statements and responses is irresponsible.
I realise awake (oxymoron) was attempting to make a point but in the building of his point his own predjudice glared. So I added the one he forgot, for him.
