“Check out this new fully featured notebook from walmart for <600$ comes with
win xp, wifi and 40 GB hard disk. I suspect that it is only a matter of time
that walmart will start to erode dells business of undercutting everyone
else – and they have the infrastructure and traffic that dell doesn’t have.”
They all come from the same plant in China anyway. I was wondering when this would happen.

If Walmart sold the thing loaded with Linux, it might easily become a sub $500 machine. They were selling Linux desktop machines. They are selling Lindows 4.0 for $59.88 WM dotcom claims, “LindowsOS is a new, fun, and exciting operating system that delivers the power, stability and cost-savings of Linux with the ease of a windows environment.” It’s funny how the new super cheap laptop comes with WinXP. I guess this supports the theory that Windows is cheaper than Linux. Maybe Dell will respond with a super cheap Dell Linux notebook for around $499. The thing should sell well for Dell. Wait see!
Maybe the OEM of this computer is installing WinXP “lite”? 🙂
