SitNews – ‘Minuteman Project’ drawing protests By Soniz Melendez — Strange bedfellows are agains this group which simply wants to protect our borders. Bush called them “vigiiantes” (to a reporter from Mexico) although they are non-violent.
The FBI, American Civil Liberties Union, the Mexican government, Latino activists and the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang are among groups monitoring or protesting the activities of the “Minuteman Project,” an Internet-driven organization planning to converge along the Arizona border beginning April 1.
The group, proclaiming its mission is to guard the U.S.-Mexico border against undocumented immigrants, has attracted nearly 1,000 volunteers representing all 50 states and Canada.
In recent weeks the group’s Web site has triggered more than one million hits, it claims.
FBI spokeswoman Susan Herskovits said the bureau wants to make sure that no civil rights are violated.
Well, that’s just great. Now the far right is giving illegal aliens civil rights! Isn’t that the far left’s job?! Is there even really a difference nowadays?!
While I voted for President Bush, I can’t help but scratch my head and wonder why he continues to pander to Vicente Fox.
It dosen’t make sense to criticize American’s defending the border.
CharliePATpkj, it makes a lot of sense. Corporations want cheap mexican labor to come in. Not only do they work cheap, but they drive down all wages. Bush gives corporations exactly what they want.
The reason “Dubya” & the neo-cons want mexican workers is to lower the standard of safety and living while maximizing profits for the super rich.
Remember “Dubya” himself said during a $50,000 a plate fund raiser last year. “Some people call you too rich. I call you my people.”
Impeach “Dubya”. They tried it with Clinton for much much less.
The GREAT GOOGLE AD test has four ads for Mexican Insurance and one for US Imigration Visas. Go figure.
I think the idea of the “Minuteman Project reminds me of a large scale “Block Watch” neighbourhood. I can see little harm or complaint when citizens become involved in their communities.
I do sincerly fear that some “hothead” will decide that their mission allows them police powers when the legitimate authorities are slow to arrive. As my mother used to tell me,”it is fun only until someone loses an eye”.
Vigilantes? They’re simply “undocumented Border Patrol agents.” (sorry, I can’t remember the source for that description)
but if someone’s eye is injured…we can take the Mexican police hostage…… (re: other post)
I don’t know…seems that we shouldn’t even be having this kind of situation…we do have LAWS on the books preventing employers from employing illegals, and we do have laws regarding immigration and visas…. why aren’t the laws, and borders enforced? What about our “anti-monopoly” laws and “antitrust” laws? What is wrong here?
The government isn’t looking out for us. Sad to say, we must do it ourselves, and then we’re called vigilante? I think our government’s leaders don’t think much of the citizens……
People, let’s face it, they want California, Oregon, New Mexico, Colorado, etc. back! They are taking it back too. I drove from Wadsworth Boulevard east on Mississippi and it is little Mexico here in Colorado stretching about five square miles on the side of town where I live. Tancredo is the only one with a real plan. The rest, both right and left, are pandering to the one-world government theme.
Know why they call them minutemen? their wives gave them that little nickname. pass it on.
