The comments database was fixed thanks to Marc Perkel at Ctyme.com. — the base server and mailing system I use for my domain. Marc is nutty about two things: spam and back-ups. I get zero spam running through his system and he’s freaky about backing up. He put on a backup of the blog comments from 12 hours ago and now it’s working again. Consider Marc for your hosting and email needs. You can’t beat his results. I’ve actually known Marc since I was the editor at Infoworld when he was one of the nations leading experts on Novell networking.

So, what actually happened to the comments database. Did something on the net corrupt it, or was there some sort of hardware crash?
We’re not sure and we may never know. I sent in the error message to Matt — the WordPress author — and if he sees any more like it then there could be soemthing to fix. Apparently something got double posted or something in the system didn’t increment correfctly. It’s the only real problem I’ve had with Word Press since installing it last July.It seems pretty bullet-proof and this may have been a MySQL problem anyway.
