It was nice to see a London style taxi in San Francsico recently. I have never understood why we don’t have more of these or at least some vehicle more suited to safely carting people around with luggage. The American Checker cab was the last American true taxi. Being in the back seat of a cheap Chevy is not right.

Here in the DC area, there have been a few London Cabs for several years. They’re OK for city roads, but not well suited for highways where you need to be able to maneuver quickly in some traffic situations….they’re too slow and unstable. The predominant cars here for taxis are the Crown Vic. and the Tahoe.. both with Florida sun levels of window tinting. Europe’s choice of MBenz diesels for taxis seems ideal.

I LOVED those Checker cabs but I think the London cabs are even better.

They are just the right size and layout… not a gaudy limmo but plenty of room to stretch out.

BMW should buy them like the mini-Cooper and release them to the world.

With the failure of MG Rover, it is hard to be optimistic about any British car firm.

The London Taxi TX2 is expensive. The base price is $52k. We won’t see these in widespread use in the U.S.
