Contact Center Today – CCT Outsourcing – Convergys Workers Say Jobs Went Overseas — Who is right here? I get the sense that we’re seeing more blatant corporate lies. This sort of thing eventually leads to shareholder lawsuits with publicly traded companies.

Convergys spokeswoman Melanie Brunson said Friday the May 1 layoffs at the Tucson location are solely due to a “reduction in call volume,” not the outsourcing of jobs to India and Canada. But employees said there has been no such reduction, and that the company had told employees two years ago that their jobs would eventually be outsourced to another country

    “U.S. call centers have been outsourcing — Van Dell said he and his peers use the term “offshoring” — technical support jobs to countries such as India to take advantage of cheaper English-speaking labor. ”

    Calls I’ve had from customer support from banks that have outsourced to India are nearly unintelligle because of the thick accent of the support agent. Speaking English does no good if the accent impedes being understood.
