Some rumps come with their own Zip Codes

For years, men have learnt to feign deafness when asked the great unanswerable question: “Does my bum look big in this?”

Lisa Macintyre, of Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, is conducting an inquiry into women’s bottoms. Though hardly a first in absolute terms, this may well be — as she claims — the first scientific study into how clothing can affect the appearance of the female backside.

She believes that her latest research project could have important implications for designers and retailers. Female volunteers wearing hundreds of types of clothing will have their bottoms photographed for the research.

Participants will then be asked to look at the pictures to assess how big or small each model’s backside appears.

The line forms here.

There’s no accounting for personal taste of course. For some men, the bigger the butt, the better. Others prefer almost no butts at all (Twiggy). Personally, I prefer a curvy rear, with Jennifer Lopez as an example.

Ignoring my personal tastes, most women should be happy with what they were given, as each rear is good in its own way. In extreme cases, (too flat or too big) exercise helps.

The correct answer to “Do these pants make me look fat?” is “No, your fat makes you look fat.” 🙂

Michael, I know if I used that one on my wife I’d end up with minor bruises and slap lines on the ol’ cheeks. Directing the argument toward fact and truth is not a good way to maintain a happy marriage. For those of you who need to know the proper response, it’s to simply say “no”, immediately and without thinking, and then invite your spouse out to dinner.

The smartest thing to do is leave the room while she’s trying on clothes. If that isn’t possible, kz’s suggestion is plan B.

BTW, I liked the other photo better. J. Lopez is way over rated.

I changed the photos because I just love the joke about the zip code.
