Times sure have changed when I worked at the campus bookstore.

Resorting to prostitution to pay fees

An increasing number of female students in the uk are resorting to prostitution or other jobs in the sex industry to pay rising university tuition fees, a study claimed on Sunday.

Research by Kingston University in southwest london suggested that there has been a 50% rise in numbers over the past six years in such cases.

In a survey that asked 130 students whether they knew any friends involved in the sex industry, one in 10 said they knew of students who had stripped, lapdanced or worked at massage parlours and escort agencies to support themselves. Over 6% said they knew students who worked as prostitutes, the Sunday Times said, quoting the survey.

That’s what I call getting ahead by giving head! Good for them !

  2. Andrew says:

I defer to George Carlin who asked why is it illegal to sell something that it’s perfectly legal to give away?

  3. Named says:

    Andrew,

Because it’s against the law. Morality and common sense have no place in the legal system! If it’s not taxed, it’s illegal. Plain and simple!

  4. kuqingwangzi says:

i did against their action.but i also understand them ,but if the college tution still keep rising how could we boys do

  8. ECA says:

    Im sorry,
But, i cant see why it isnt regulated, and the girls checked at least 1 time per month for STD…

It could pay the Tax bills for the Whole country, if they made all the GUYS pay for it…

  9. forrest says:

    Ahhh…this isn’t a trend here in the U.S.?

  10. AB CD says:

This is a bogus study. They don’t find oiut how many prostitutes there are, just how many friends they have who know about it.

Right. These numbers are not truistworthy at all.

If, however, a credible study can show that women are increasingly turning to the sex trade to pay tuition bills, then the right will hijack the issue to continue their tiresome tirade about declining values, when the reality will be (and in fact is) that higher education just costs too damn much.

College isn’t an iPod. Pricing education should not be about what the market will bear. It should be about what is best for a society, and what is best is that more people, rather than less, be properly educated.

  12. Ravantra says:

10% in the survey knew someone….thats 13 people. For it to have increased to 13 people by 50% the last survey found 9 people who knew someone doing the nasty for cash.

    Also the article says 6% where into prostitution….6% of what? The total 130 x 0.06 = 8 people or 13 x 0.06 = 0.78 or 1 person???? Did taht increase by 50% also and go from 5 to 8.?????

The article does not seem valid, not enough data.

  13. rctaylor says:

Prostitution is often less about concenting adults, and more about children being bought in the business by pimps. Most hookers don’t live well, and have bleak prospects for a future. There’s very few top dollar call girls. Most are diseased and drug addicted runaways thats lucky to see 30.

  14. OhForTheLoveOf says:

Plus, those 13 people might have all known the same person… and i suspect they do. I suspect they all know Maggie McFarmingdougleshiringhamberg, AKA Mags with the Bags, who is a chemistry major at the South London School Women’s Center for Chemistry, who has been paying her way as an escort serving the fetish community in a popular niche market.

Now I don’t want to get too specific abouts Maggie’s niche, but if you haven’t sussed it out yet, let me just point out that she was born in Australia and moved to England as a fully developed teenager.

DAVE!! Where in the hell was that picture taken?

You know, that’s just one of the alternatives… another approach requires the parents to plan ahead by sending their boys for sleepover at a famous twisted popstar’s mansion, and then sue him.

I knew a very pretty college girl that would pass off as a wholesome all-American, but was turning tricks for an upscale escort service. I was shocked, but later realized that she was really smart. Why work at a fast food for minimum wage when she could clear $2,000 on a weekend with five customers. These customers needed $500 for a lay so they weren’t diseased vagrants. They were professional men like doctors, lawyers and business men. The irony is that there a hundreds of women who would love to marry these men, but my friend was bypassing the boring dates and getting (lousy, for the most part) sex and GETTING PAID! Yes, she had the looks and the body. But, she was the most intelligent and beautiful (soul sense) prostitute I ever paid.

It’s good to know that stick is only up your ass during half of your posts.

  20. AB CD says:

    >Pricing education should not be about what the market will bear.

That’s exactly what’s going to happen. Administrators know people will pay, or get someone else to pay. The government expanded student loans in the 90s and they just raised tuitions to match.

  21. Mike Voice says:

15 …another approach requires the parents to plan ahead…

Ah, yes. The Neverland Foundation’s scholarship program.

  22. Jägermeister says:

#21 – 😀 Yeah, the scholarship program that pays for your boy’s education and your new house, car etc. 😉

  23. Uncle Dave says:

#14: “DAVE!! Where in the hell was that picture taken?”

That will be $250 per half hour for me to tell you the story. $300 per if I have to take my shirt off.

  24. Ron Larson says:

Beats working in the industry for drug money.

  25. BHK says:

#11 – You’re right. We should also price food, medicine, gasoline, clothing, housing, and everything else that people need. There won’t have to be any rationing, of course, because even though prices are artificially low, producers will stay in business out of the goodness of their hearts and people will only buy what they actually can use because that’s what’s right for society.

The cost of education is going up because it simply cannot go any other way. The less real cost the consumers of education must pay, they more they will want of it, and so now we have an issue of high demand and not enough supply. Government simply cannot tax us enough to build up the supply to meet the demand so tuitions rise and everyone complains because they aren’t getting a free ride anymore.

  26. joshua says:

This is such a bogus article. While there very well may be some British University girls prostituting, it sure as hell isn’t because of University fees.
Fees are regulated by the goverment. The most any University in England, Scotland or Wales can charge is 3000 pounds a year to residents. That covers everything but books and personal living expenses. Most Universities provide pretty decent housing for free. All students who qualify for University are eligable to borrow student aid to cover all their yearly expenses and no repayment until they graduate.
You can attend Oxford for 3000 pounds or Liverpool University for the same amount…..the top tier Universities can’t charge anymore than the lowest technical University. Hell, the top tier Uni’s even half to make sure that at least 50% of their students come from *state schools* (non-private or public to us), and Oxford and Canbridge are over that figure, 53% and 56% respectivily. Try that that here.

I know this, because I just finished 3 years there. I had to pay non-resident fees, which are very high, but all my mates were British citizens and last year they paid even less. This means that a University of the highest order, world wide, like Oxford charges $6000.00 a year for tution and room. Try that at Harvard or Stanford.

Now, you want to talk about highway robbery….then you talk about American Universities. If we had a system like the British more of the underprivledged could get a decent education and make it in this society. Instead, marginal or lower middle class or poor students, regardless of their ability usually can’t go to most schools in this country. Even state colleges and Universities are running close to or over 20,000 dollars a year. Try taking on that load when your poor.

  27. The cost of a college education is way out of hand.
The way things are going I bet its going to be a family business.
Parents work two jobs just to send thier kids to private school.
    This is bad for society.

  28. Smartalix says:

Well, a lot of the lap-dancers at the upscale clubs in manhattan are coeds. They don’t have to sleep with the clients and they make major ducats.

  29. Dave says:

This isn’t very new. Go to http://www.belledejour.co.uk/ or buy her (excellent) book.

  30. James Hatsis says:

If one person at the school is a prostitute and half of the school knows that person then the survey would reveal “50% of students know….” now assume that by the next year All the students know that person… “100% increase in students that know…” these studies that survey only who knows about something as opposed to what is actually going on are very flawed indeed.
