This “White House Advisor” has always been all over the media condemning everyone — especially gays — while praising the Lord.

Toronto Daily News – Church Leader Quits After Gay Sex, Meth Claims – US evangelist accused of using male prostitute services — Anyone who studies American history knew this sort of thing was coming. Hypocrisy reigns. As a friend of mine likes to say, “Only sinners go to church.” If this is nothing more than a smear campaign I’d say it was risky since this guy runs in some powerful circles. Let’s watch this unfold. If all this is actually orchestrated by the Democrats, then it looks as if they’ve finally found a Karl Rove rival. Who is it?

Pastor Ted Haggard, the president of the American Association of Evangelicals, has resigned due to allegations of engaging in homosexual intercourse with a prostitute.

Ted Haggard, who runs one of the largest churches in the US and regularly consults the White House on policy matters, had been paying a male prostitute to have sex with him about once a month for the past three years, a man who claims to be the male escort told a Denver radio station

Mike Jones, a male escort, alleged that Haggard, whom he knew as “Art”, paid for sex with him during trysts which had been taking place between them on an almost monthly basis over the course of the previous three years.

Further, Jones said Haggard used methamphetamine before their sexual encounters to heighten his experience.

When did the Republicans get so gay? From what I can tell this is the guy pushing evangelical religion into the Air Force Academy. Now he’s gay? What gives?

Interview with Jones About Haggard who Apparently called himself “Art.”

Note of irony. Here’s an article where Haggard is preaching about how religion belongs in politics. Be careful what you wish for.

Update for all the doubters!: CNN interviewed Ted Haggard and he admits calling Mike Jones for a “massage” and to “buy meth.”

Yet another update:

For those who worry about anyone “judging” Pastor Ted — his church just fired him. Here’s the .pdf of its press release.

Last update, we promise!: Haggard admits being “guilty of sexual immorality” and stated, “I am a deceiver and a liar.”

Haggard is a graduate from Oral Roberts University.

    87. Clearly you are in denial about the “normal” sexual behaviors of Jesse Jackson and Gerry Studds. You want irony, read 62 again and reconcile that with Jackson’s moral leadership of liberals. Following your flawed logic, all Democrats must be like those two guys. Gee, I wonder who is bringing up sex scandals to rock an election?

He bought some meth – ok so what – but then he says he didnt use it – thats complete shit – who buys glass and then just looks at it? no one.
The massage thing, i can see how that might have happened just how he said, but the rest of it is complete crap.

Yet another “conservative” who is lashing out at the world becasue he cant control his inner demon.

Thanks for the clarification. I’m not overly educated in your holy scriptures, so I had to look it up on Wikipedia.
It was a little too much to read, but I take it the Pharisees are Jews. Which again leads me way back in school. We had lessons in religion those days, and I enjoyed getting down to business, putting it in clear words what it was all about. The teacher was a Jehova Witness btw. Anyway, when Judaism was dealt with, I asked him where Jews went when they died. And, yep, they’re going to Hell. I found that interesting, in a very humorous way.
And I found your clarification just as interesting. Ted Haggard is going to Hell. And I assume this is coming from one of his own (you). Hilarious. Really.
Cheeeese, for a moment there I was actually hoping he was heading to Phoenix 😉
“Hypocrisy is an unforgivable sin…” You base this destination from “facts” in your bible.
Me myself would probably say hypocrisy is bad behavior, and how severe depends on what it’s about. And I’d say cheating on your wife is very bad. Lying is bad. Taking illegal drugs is bad. Pay for sex might not be so bad if it prevents you from going bonkers, and because of that you “have” to rape somebody. Having sex with the same sex isn’t bad at all, if that’s your “thing”. Heck, I’d even let them marry and wouldn’t bother at all for that matter.
But enjoying it in one minute, and condemn it publicly in another is bad behavior. And pouring it out in a multimedia super store in Colorado Springs to thousands of people is very very bad behavior.
I know, freedom of speech. It’s a good thing.
But Haggard took it to the highest level; The Politics Running USA. That’s why I really feel bad, angry and provoked by people waving their bible and claiming all kind of ridiculous things.
Most people don’t need to read some ancient holy scriptures to figure out cheating, lying, breaking the law, using illegal drugs and all the other stuff is bad. It saddens me you have to, but I accept it.
But Haggard is a rotten tomato doing bad things on a national scale, and I certainly don’t accept that. So, since your scriptures is mumbo jumbo to me and many others, please keep it in this world, and not in a fictional hell.

  5. RBG says:

    93. Dammit, John. Ha. You know very well what my point is but your genetically programmed liberalism is simply unable to admit to it.

But because I’m a reasonable sort of guy, I’m going to repeat myself for the cognitively-challenged. (Meant in a very nice way, of course.)

The assertion continues to be made (examples even provided above) that somehow pointing to moral degeneration in a high profile conservative is somehow indicative of all conservatives and *only* conservatives.

The idea is patently ridiculous ,of course, easily refuted with a similar liberal example. That’s it. No other subtext. Very straight-forward. But try to get a liberal to acknowledge this? Hard as poking a wet noodle up a wildcat’s ass.

Now to save everyone a bit of trouble, let me write down the next challenge to my statements:

“But what’s Jackson got to do with anything?”

Better: “But what’s Jackson got to do with morality?”

    Better still: “Jackson who?”

Does anyone else find it interesting how we have 95 comments, mostly “judging” Pastor Ted completely … for unfairly and unjustly JUDGING.

Must be some irony here somewhere.

I will always give a pastor more credibility than a gay prostitute, but that’s just me. But hey, Jimmy Sweigert did surprise me, I’ll admit. So did Jimmy Carter for that matter.

Second, I may live in a shitty nation, but this place is slowly getting a steady influx of american retirees and we all know what kind of animals are attracted to shit and why they are attracted to it.

Third, I’m not bashing THE Americans, I’m just bashing THOSE Americans.

Man! What an election! This is the dirtiest election I have seen. Either that or we are seeing some amazing coincidences with bad news.

But I guess they have to go wide open to get one house Democratic so they can stop any non-liberal from getting on the Supreme Court. The fate of the ACLU is at stake.

Have any Democrats pulled a Jesse Jackson and filed suit against the election results yet?

“judging” Pastor Ted completely … for unfairly and unjustly JUDGING.
    Well for a start:
There is a significant difference between “judging” and JUDGING.
The first one deals with this world/reality we live in.
The second deals with judging based on ancient scriptures with totally outdated norms.
I know some people place “=” between the two, but I assure you, that’s totally wrong for a large number of people.
The sad and upsetting part is that those who believe in the latter judging type, try to establish the fiction as accepted fact. Or forcing everybody to accept that hell is as real a judgment as guilty in drug abuse for instance.
I know, this didn’t sound good, but I think that’s what I mean anyway 🙂

  11. OhForTheLoveOf says:

    #96 – Jeez…

You are whining because we see through your slight of hand trick. This guy turns out to be a fraud. Actually, all Holy Rollers are frauds, but we have some meth and a hot oil rub to hold over this guy…

When one of our guys falls, which happens on occassion, you guys are all over it. You beat the drums. You shout to the rafters. It sounded like the apocolypse itself when Bill Clinton had an consensual affair with an adult… But when your Representative tries to touch boys, or your preachers is smoking meth, your response is “well, what about Clinton…”

The thing is… We ain’t talking about that now. We are talking about this. You don’t get to take the spotlight away from your meth head Jesus freak rough trade fire and brimstone hypocrit preacher just because Clinton offended you a decade ago, or because Gary Hart bagged a bikini model.

And why are we painting with a broad brush… Because your guys were all in the loop. Turns out Hastert, who we already knew was a scumbag, also knew about the pages as did half the Republican leadership.

Republicans have serious credibility issues. Yours is the party of personal responsibility, or so your side likes to point out. Take some.

  14. Gary Marks says:

It’s interesting to note that Pastor Ted only admitted to the drug dealings after a tape recording to set up a “buy” was analyzed and determined to be his voice, so I guess he subscribes to the theory that you should only admit to what can be corroborated by physical evidence.

It’s just a crying shame we can’t dredge up breaking news on the Jack Abramoff, Duke Cunningham, Bob Ney, Mark Foley, or Tom Delay scandals. Really, this is all we have, another hypocritical Evangelical with access to the White House? I like the slightly sordid sex/drug angles, but hypocrisy is just getting too blasé these days. Wake me up when we find a late-breaking scandal with some real meat!

I heard that Republicans regularly engage in cannibalism!

  15. RBG says:

Well, I wasn’t going to respond since you said nothing useful, imho. (eg: Your last statement is breathtaking in its emptiness.)

    But then Smartalix piped in.

First of all your “one of our guys” happens to be referring to a president and two presidential candidates (Hart & Jackson). You do see a slight difference here, yes?

And if liberals confined their comments to Haggard and his ministry, I would be right there with you. (Or maybe not just to make things interesting.) But when you open it up to assinine and broader political parallels, it becomes a clear open invitation for people like me to call you on it.

Hastert? Please tell me you see the irony of bringing him up in your post.

I think what Smartalix meant was he liked your pretty words.

  16. Mr. Fusion says:

RE: 106, Yup, them was mighty pretty words.

You seem to miss the point that has been repeated over and over. The Republican leadership have repeatedly been telling Americans that the Democrats do not have the morals to govern. Yet here they have repeatedly been caught in sexual criminal activities. So I ask you, where is the Republican morality?

  17. moss says:

    Uh, see the latest update!

  18. RBG says:

And as I’ve pointed out repeatedly – it is all a relative thing. As in compared to the Democrats.

The idea that the conservatives must be completely morally problem-free to claim any kind of moral authority is logically and self-evidently absurd and is something that has been manufactured by the left for their own purposes to support some kind of bizarre rhetoric.

Haggard has been thrown out of the church in pretty fast turnaround time. But I guess that must just be because his transgressions were made public otherwise the congregation would have allowed him to continue. Yeah, right.

#109: No one says they have to be. But they should be if they are going to condemn others for the actions they themselves indulge in. Common sense says that being a hypocrite usually gets found out eventually and destroys any point you’re trying to make.

  20. J says:

Well I guess this debate is over he has just admitted to it all!

Now is it ok to call him a hypocrite? Or do you have a different defense for him?

Rest assured they are gathering the goods on many other prominent Republicans. The more the Republicans open their mouth the bigger the hole they are going to dig for themselves.

  21. #106 and RGB in general. Yes, Now I get it. You keep talking about seeing the difference. I do see it. When the Dems transgress it is usually adultry or petty corruption. These folks you defend are indeed different. With them it’s all homosexual sex, boys, male prostitution and methamphetamines. OK. I get it now. The Dems are straight and the Republicans are gay. Fine. I have nothing against it, I’m from California.

    Vote Independent!

Why should we confine our comments? He was a weekly advisor to the President of the United States! I think that someone who has admitted to committing a felony and lying and also has the ear of the President on a weekly basis. He also peddles a great amount of influence over the voting masses and Republican politicians because of that.

It is more than fair to mention his connections to our government officials because a good judge of a person is the company they keep!

  23. Pekuliar says:

Let me see if I got this right. If a gay is conservative he deserves to be bashed and humiliated no matter if the information is rumor based and no actual sex acts have occurred.
If the gay person is liberal it is something we have no business commenting on since it is in their genes. In fact we need to find ways to promote and honor them no matter if they break laws and they sexually attack our children.
    Talk about hypocritical kool-aid.

  24. J says:

    #114 Pekuliar

no Pekuliar! He made it the issue by going out and bashing the “homosexual agenda” He has attack homosexuals repeatedly. It is not his homosexual behavior that is being bashed. It is his hypocrisy!

  29. Roger M says:

Although I do understand why politics have to be part of this story (and it really must), I think it’s also getting too much attention.
I’m pretty sure there were both Democrats and Republicans among the hailers of Haggard. Probably not a 50/50, but still.

So, my point is that the impact the religious force had/has on politics is plain wrong/bad/misconceiving/misleading/anti humanistic and more.
Religion in general, and not least christianity, has proven itself misfit to take part in any political power.
Haggard has proven what I mean is crucial about religion; Religion has no affect what so ever on peoples choices between what is wrong or not.
When it comes down to real choices, god’s power does not prevent anything. Christians rape, kill, cheat on spouses, discriminate, steal or whatever, just as much as any other group of mindset.
“But, but, but they don’t act in the name of their god doing all this.”
Well, maybe that’s a good thing, as the bible do support a lot of sick and bad “things” like slavery, murder and what not.
So, let’s not forget the important issue here, that christianity might be good for some in the comfort of their home. But to let it have any political impact what so ever, is totally wrong.
And maybe Haggard did a good thing opening peoples eyes to this. Maybe this was god’s purpose 😉 (Just kidding)
