TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. — A former teacher charged with having sex with a 14-year-old middle school student and running off to Mexico with him pleaded guilty Wednesday to a sodomy charge. Angela Renee Comer, 28, would serve 10 years in prison under her plea agreement, in which the prosecutor agreed to drop most other charges. Besides one count of third-degree sodomy, Comer pleaded guilty to one count of custodial interference. She had faced up to 20 years on each of four counts of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and up to five years each for two counts of third-degree sodomy.
Comer told The Associated Press after the court hearing that she was glad to avoid a trial, which had been scheduled to start today. “A trial is very stressful for everyone, and I just want this to be over,” she said.
I guess she got off easy since she could have been sentenced
to up to 90 years in prison.

IMNHO that kid deserves to be punched, then tied to the school’s flagpole and have the word “homo” spraypainted on his face.
I don’t mean to see this differently, but the boy is fourteen years old. Having sex with him should be rape or at the very least a sex crime. He is not an adult (and can be manipulated by her authority).
This being said I think a ten year sentence might be a little harsh. I really believe that people who are committing nonviolent crimes of drugs or sex should receive treatment instead of prison. You send them to prison and you don’t cure the problem, but actually make it worse.
I would like to think that as a society we have matured beyond a simple eye for an eye, but I am sure I am wrong.

I figured out after a month or so, that whenever me and mi amigos would start to do anything other than pay attention to her, she would start to mess with the top buttons of her blouse. Usually, it involved surreptitiously unfastening one while her back was conveniently turned to the class, writing on the blackboard — then turning around and fidgeting with it while discussing whatever was on the board…
Needless to say, she had about 85% of the class’ attention (except the now-pissed-off girls and inevitable queer guy). IT WORKED! I still remember the majority of those lessons to this day (20+ years later)…
