Associated Press – June 28, 2007:

Investigators are looking into who altered pro wrestler Chris Benoit’s Wikipedia entry to mention his wife’s death hours before authorities discovered the bodies of the couple and their 7-year-old son.

Benoit’s Wikipedia entry was altered early Monday to say that the wrestler had missed a match two days earlier because of his wife’s death.

The bodies were found in Benoit’s home in suburban Atlanta, and it’s not known where the posting was sent from, Bass said.

Benoit strangled his wife and son during the weekend, placing Bibles next to their bodies, before hanging himself on the cable of a weight-machine in his home, authorities said. No motive was offered for the killings, which were discovered Monday.

It appears steroids have some unusual side effects it can make you look like the hulk and act like him to. Not good. And we have been eating these things for a couple decades.

  2. rantsh says:

For what is worth it is not even really known if he (Chris Benoit) was the killer or if everything was just a set-up… We’ll probably never know for sure…

Either way, may they all rest in peace.

  3. OhForTheLoveOf says:

    #5 – It wasn’t me.

  4. JimR says:

He was a Christian to the very end. (sniff) 🙁

  5. MikeN says:

Anyone think this is a time zone issue. This happened to CBS during the Dan Rather fake National Guard memos scandal

  6. The Freaky Tiki says:

#8… Atlanta and Stamford are in the same time zone.

  7. Chuck says:

This just backs up my theory that Wikipedia is fueled by satan.

  8. ArianeB says:

#3 There is no possible way it could have been anyone else but Chris Benoit. Just look at the timeline. The wife was killed on friday night, the son on saturday night, and Chris as late as Monday morning. There is simply no way another killer could have slipped in the house 3 times. There is simply no way that a 4th person could have stayed there over the weekend and not leave any evidence. There is no way someone could have killed Chris Benoit, without Chris showing signs of struggle.

Chris Benoit did it all himself, end of story.

  9. Grace says:

I’m still having a difficult time processing all of this. I have been a WWE wrestling fan for years. Chris Benoit was one of my favorite wrestlers. I am disabled and the pro wrestlers at WWE have inspired me. If they could wrestle while injured and in pain, then I could push a little harder too! After all this, Benoit is NOT one of the wrestlers that I will miss (like Owen Hart and Eddie Guerro). I pray that I will never get to that black place, where I believe Benoit was, that I feel that I don’t have any choices, any way out. I feel so sorry for his wife and son. He could have taken his own life and left them alive. Who knows want went on in his head. I guess, after writing this, I realize that I am angry at Benoit for murdering his own child and his wife. God will be the judge.

Let’s not dismiss the idea that the post was a coincidence. How many millions of Wikipedia entries that are removed DON’T end up being true?

  11. Ringo says:

The I.P. address that the post was edited from has been linked to several other Wiki entry edits, including edits to Stacy Keibler’s page (former WWE star) and Chavo Guerrero, Jr.’s (current WWE star), as well as many edits to the profile of Ron Artest and The Sopranos. Almost all of the edits are explicit in nature, be it sexist, racist, or just plain profane.

It is a likely possibility that the editor of Benoit’s page simply added the entry as a hoax hoping to create a buzz, but ended up being true.

Here is the list of past edits for the I.P. address of the editor of Chris Benoit’s page. I don’t believe that he had any real knowledge of what had happened and is more than likely a young kid with too much time on his hands.

  12. meetsy says:

I’m still baffled how WRESTLING (the t.v. kind) has any fans at all….
Gee, I sure hope steroids didn’t cause a ‘roid rage and depression that made the guy snap…because heaven knows he needed to look like an inflated side of beef to please his “fans” of his homo-erotic half nude, oiled flesh, man-tan, prancing gymnastics..
Why is it that anyone wonders why the country is going down the tubes…..
May his victims rest in peace.

  13. Angus says:

I wonder if Benoit edited it himself before he took his own life. Perhaps via a work VPN? Would a VPN connection show the IP of the office location, and not Georgia?

  14. andrewj says:

I guess it’s possible that someone with roid-rage could edit their own wiki page.

  15. James Hill says:

#19 – Or spread the events out over a relatively long period of time.

Meanwhile, my entry that he killed them using the Crippler Crossface, his finishing move used in wrestling, was removed. I had that up a day and a half before it was revealed the kid died from a choke hold (which is pretty damn similar).

Hopefully his other two children can get beyond this, and big-bad wrestlers don’t keep killing themselves. Otherwise, I don’t see much else (good or bad) coming from this.

  16. James says:

Apparently, the editor of the Wikipedia article confessed that it was a disastrously timed coincidence.

The guy was a musclebrained asswipe. With his passing, the collective IQ of the American populace rose ~ 0.00001 point. Taking others with him was the final selfish act of someone whose net contribution to the betterment of humankind was somewhere below zero.

  18. James Hill says:

#22 – Just because you tapped out to the Crippler Crossface is no reason to get pissy.

  19. Angus says:

#22, we was Canadian, no need to bash the US over this.

  20. Lauren the Ghoti says:

You mean he was living in Joja voluntarily?

  21. Jill says:

But he was supposed to be one of the good guys. I’m not a big fan of the WWE but as a kid I grew up watching Stampede Wrestling and the WWF in the 80’s. He was supposed to the “gentle giant” type in real life, quiet, humble, friendly, all-around nice guy. He was a local hero (though not now). He loved his kids, how could he do this. I just don’t understand. This story bothers me.

As more details emerge, it’s clear he did it. I still don’t understand why. If he was angry with his wife, how could he turn on his own son. With his son diagnosed with Fragile X syndrome, maybe in a really sick way, he thought it was some type of mercy killing. But who could murder an innocent 7-year-old boy? How could he do that to his own son?

  22. jdm says:

“The IP Address of the individual making the apology was identical to that of the one who posted the Nancy Benoit rumor, a strong confirmation of the admission’s authenticity.”

Since when is an IPv4 address any kind of proof of authenticity? An IP address holds no more authenticity an does an unsigned apology.

  23. Mr. Fusion says:

The guy was a musclebrained asswipe. With his passing, the collective IQ of the North American populace rose ~ 0.00001 point. Taking others with him was the final selfish act of someone whose net contribution to the betterment of humankind was somewhere below zero.

    #24, feel better now?

  24. Lauren the Ghoti says:

I feel great always – so how could I feel better?
