Looks like someone just forgot that their camera/phone was recording.
That dog is thinking “wtf does my master need an iphone for. a$$hole.”
Three months ago, I was going to spend $300 to replace my 3rd gen iPod with a new one – which I ended up not doing. So to me, having an iPhone, which is much more than just an iPod, along with the convenience of only needing to carry one device instead of two, is worth the extra $300 beyond what I was already going to spend. Plus my current phone is quite outdated and I’m going to be paying for a service plan regardless.
What happened to the embargo? You ruins it!
BETA WARE..
It already has a Forced update that needs to be done at purchase.
#1 – Meanwhile, you’ve yet to make a decent post on this blog. Just because you’re a hater is no reason to get pissy.
#5 – As do most devices these days.
It’s a shame no one is giving reasonable critiques as to why this device is some how a bad move: The more I read, the more I think posts like #3 cannot be refuted.
#4 – It’s his embargo, and his blog. Deal with it.
John, that is insanely boring to watch. Better to read this while the video freezes every 10 seconds.
http://tinyurl.com/2ey8xh
#6 it was a joke. Weren’t you crying about lack of coverage a few days ago?
#8 – Crying? No. Mocking? Yes.
I want to read serious writing about the marketing Apple has applied to this device, in addition to reasonable reviews about the device itself. Too many articles poorly blend the two topics, and just add to the hype.
Further, I’ve previously bitched about how poor tech reviews are becoming, both in magazines (including PCMagazine) and online-only sites. The “iPod Shuffle doesn’t have a screen, therefore it cannot be a five-star product” logic is a prime example of this.
@7 – The video doesn’t freeze for me. You must have a bandwidth problem.
That said, the video is pretty sucky. The guy using the camera doesn’t have a clue.
By the way, what’s the deal with this guy?
James Hill
Why is this stupid phone so important to you? Do you own a lot of Apple stock or something? It’s a phone. It’s used to call people. How magical does it need to be?
#13, Yes, but what I found to be most irritating about the video was the journo, who couldn’t wait to say that he was one of four that was able to review the iPhone. You would have expected more objectivity instead of buying into the hype.
seriously…
How long until Jobs creates the Holy Church of Apple !!!??
So much faith going to waste… surely there’s a market here…
I don’t know live video of people waiting in line… I fear for the future of our society. I guess if you live in your moms basement, this video might be compelling… But…
Hey, they alway wait in line for new gaming machines.
I guess I’m an old-fashioned Treo 650 User.
I picked the Palm OS 2 years ago because of all the currently available utilities which get used more than my phone part. It has a removable battery which I change twice a month because I’m away from a charger. It has an mp3 player I bought and uses the same pokey EDGE network.
It’s practical and I like it. Yea it lacks that apple logo but I’ll be a few hundred bucks ahead. I’m just too busy enjoying life to wait in line for this psychological competition to stay ahead of the Jones.
Will the camera person please focus on some of the iPhone babes in line!
#17 – Gaming machines do something unique and important. The iPhone is a phone with an “i” in front of it.
Other things more interesting, exciting, or useful than an iPhone:

cut-out bin copies of CDs by minor one hit 80’s wonder band, Blancmange (yea… I can barely remember them too)
#13, why do you people keep saying the cost of the phone is $3000? The device costs either $500 or $600; the cost of the service contract is going to be paid in some degree no matter what provider and phone you are using. It is an invalid argument.
And in regards to “overpriced” devices, how much does that N95 cost again?
#20, OFTLO, yes and in that exact order, but you left three out 🙂

#12 – It’s not so much the device itself, but how it’s exposing all of the flaws in the technology industry in terms of how it is marketed, that I find interesting. Personally, I’ll probably buy it (for both myself and my wife), but I’m sure as hell not going to stand in line for “a phone”.
That being said, the phone is the most important tech story of the year: Anyone’s laundry list, or anti-hype bullshit, doesn’t stand up.
After all, look at hacks like Pedro. He can’t say anything of value, but he can’t stay away from the popular story, either.
#21
I think what he is saying is that from the looks of the people in the lines, they don’t have any friends thus they don’t have anyone to call with their iphone, thus they must be interested in the iPhone as “the best iPod ever” Therefore, with the initial costs and the reoccuring fees this is an iPod that costs $3000.
#24,
That is because the media is using the iPhone story as a cover for the fact that iRaq is having their bloodyist day in this war, and london is under seige from the terrorists.
Hell yeah, if I were carl rove I would call the media and tell them to cover this wall to wall as well.
One guy just came to tell the guys that he brought some pot… I guess they’ll need that shit if they’re going to sit there and wait… 😉
I’m guessing mr. cool there was having a go at the phone but grabbed the first thing in the general area – the mic.
#24 – That being said, the phone is the most important tech story of the year: Anyone’s laundry list, or anti-hype bullshit, doesn’t stand up.
Watson! Come here! I need you!
I say Bell, what is it?
I’ve invented the phone!
By jove your right! This will revolutionize all of mankind now and forever and never will our esteemed friends in the newspaper business have want of any other technology to write about! Bell, you are a God among men!
and scene!
——-
Jeeze dude… I get your point, but most important? Its still just a phone mixed with a Palm Pilot and an iPod… Three totally unimportant things.
(and I used to work for Palm back in the 90s – when it was the “it” thing and you all made fun of the Newton)
#31 – Yes, but only the apple filled bastardization, not the original variety.
I think the point here is that Apple kicks ass when it comes to marketing, and they are going to sell a shitload of these things whether to want one yourself, or not. I don’t want one ’cause i don’t have a cell phone or an iPod or even a thumb drive. (I do have 4 Macs though.)
Guess I’m only DU commenter waiting in line for an iPhone.
#26 – You can’t be that diluted to think the iPhone is a cover for Iraq and London. Well, based on your previous posts…
#28 – …and the video quality of that is shit. The “I can already do that” argument is moot, since Apple easily overcame it with the iPod.
#30 – Yes, most important. I’m not saying the technology in-and-of itself is going to set the world on fire, but all things considered this is the best we as the tech community can do… and it’s pretty fucking sad.
#34 – Safe bet. Any dogs do anything interesting around you?
