Census workers know it will be difficult counting illegal immigrants for the 2010 population tally and even tougher if those immigrants are hiding from enforcement agents.

Yup. I imagine it would be more difficult to count undocumentados if they’re busy hiding from law enforcement. And the point is?

To make it easier, the Census Bureau wants immigration agents to suspend enforcement raids during the population count. Deputy Director Preston Jay Waite said immigration enforcement officials did not conduct raids for several months before and after the 2000 census. But today’s political climate is even more volatile on the issue of illegal immigration.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman declined to say whether immigration officials would halt raids. “If we were, we wouldn’t talk about it,” Pat Reilly said.

I imagine if a federal agency doesn’t want to tell the public what they’re doing, we can count on Congressional oversight to do the job. Right? Right…?

While you’re at it – oh, never mind. We all can think of equally stupid similes.

The idiots running our government hardly qualify as street sweepers.

  2. hhopper says:

Nothing our gov’t. does surprises me any more.

  3. Kerry says:

Uhhh… so the Census Bureau wants the raids to stop so people won’t hide from them? And INS might stop the raids but won’t tell anybody? This will give people the confidence to come out how?

  4. GigG says:

The best bet would be to announce the raids would stop then replace the census takers with INS agents.

  5. MikeN says:

Why should they even bother counting illegal immigrants? They can’t vote anyways, or at least aren’t supposed to, and the main purpose of the census is reapportionment for voting.

  6. MikeN says:

Call the census to count them as they are being deported.

  7. GF says:

…also, could the IRS quit taxing me? My mortgage is due and I really don’t want taxes to get in the way of the confy lifestyle I have.

    thanks 🙂

ICS made it’s position clear today….they will NOT stop their raids during the next census. End of story.

We need an accurate counting of illegals for reimbursment to the states of the cost of free health care, and education to these people. Even though the funding dosen’t begin to come close to covering the actual costs, the states with heavy illegal populations desperatly need the money.

  9. KVolk says:

Knock, knock……..Que?……Cenus…….(door opens)……..Freeze immigration!!!……Oh by the way how many of there are you?

  10. MikeN says:

How do states get reimbursed? How about collecting when they distribute the benefits instead of using statistical calculations? The reality is that if Democrats win the next election, they will stop the raids because they want more illegals voting for Democrats. Also, more illegals in the census boosts the reapportionment for Democrat states.

  11. joshua says:

#10…..While there may be some illegals voting with the phoney ID they can buy in any city in California, I really don’t think it’s a major problem. Besides, both parties want the Hispanic vote, one so it can become the majority party for the next 50 years and the other to keep the Hispanic vote locked up for itself like it does with the black vote. In ten years, the Dems will ignore the Hispanics and what they want like they ignore the Gay vote and the black vote.

The Federal goverment allots a certain amount each year for reimbursement to the states for illegal medical and education costs. The problem is their figures and the states are not even in the same ballpark. An example….2004…the feds gave California a little over 72 million towards medical costs for illegals….the total cost to the state was actually 1 billion dollars. That same year, the feds gave Calif. 111 million towards the cost of incarcerating the illegals, but the actual cost was closer to 1.4 billion…….education costs to California for illegals was 7.7 billion in 2004(excluding costs like meals, special ed, english as second language etc)…the feds gave them 123 million reimbursement.
