Yahoo’s social network is here! | Tech news blog – CNET News.com — Is this company completely insane to name the new social network “Mash” as in masher? Mashers are guys who push themselves up against women and rub against them. (See post below for an example) YUK. Who is running this place?
Yahoo’s rumored social network, dubbed “Mash,” has arrived. The company started inviting people outside the company to test it on Friday, the company says in a blog.
Mash is different from other social networks in that you can start profiles for your friends and “open” your own profile to friends you trust, according to the Mash blog. What that means, exactly, is still a bit unclear. You can also reportedly customize your profile or friends’ profiles with other apps, ala Facebook.
From the term “mash up”, maybe? Google would certainly be keenly aware of that term with all the mash-ups of Google Earth.
If they are under 30, they might not know the term masher. Still, you think they’d pay people to know that kind of stuff.
I’m just guessin’.

The Bubble is coming. I can’t wait for Social Networks disappear from Internet. Here in Brazil we have some serious problems with Orkut [pedophily, violence, racism, etc].
For me it is just another useless social network waiting to be closed in a near future!

If I feel like social networking, there’s a nice little pub down the street. Great people there. I actually met my junior high school principal and I’m 63.
I guess what’s confusing me is why they’re starting Mash/Mesh/Mosh/Mush( next week perhaps?) when 360 already exists. There are at least several hundred thousand using 360, it’s been in existence over two years, and it’s still in beta! There’s already MySpace and Facebook. Why do what’s already been done?
Perhaps more importantly, what’s Yahell gonna do when Mash/Mesh/Mosh/Mush tanks anyway?

I think that would be a perfect name for an anti-social network, it would probably attract a large, excited, very close following (so to speak) and make a lot of money in advertisements from oddball sex sites.
How come no one mentions women who deliberately “mash” their breasts against you ? Damm sexists in here anyway.. 😉

Actually, I’ve known quite a few women who’ll mash a lot more than their breasts against us, so you’re right. Sometimes they stick to you like a suction cup. I wonder if the word ‘frotteur’ in French has a feminine form?
Somehow, I suspect John may not be overly eager to have his name associated with oddball sexual deviants. On the other hand, a quick glance around Dvorak Uncensored and the Cage Match forum gives a strong indication we’re already overrun and perhaps it doesn’t bother him in the slightest.
