Apparently the dipshit hippies in Oregon would find this offensive too

DMV deems Oregon family’s name offensive | KOMO 1000 News Radio – News, Weather and Sports – Seattle, WA Seattle, Washington | Local & Regional — To me this action offends everyone from the Netherlands and anyone with a foreign name. I’m personally offended now. Humppf!

A Merlin family has been ordered to turn in the vanity license plates for their cars because the state finds their Dutch name can be interpreted as offensive. The plates, UDINK1 UDINK2 and UDINK3 are on the vehicles of Mike and Shelly Udink and their son Kalei. Two of the plates are five and seven years old. One was issued last year.

Last summer Kawika Udink’s application for Udink4 was rejected and the state ordered the other three plates returned.

The plates are now invalid and the 90-day temporary registrations sent to the family in June are also likely expired, according to David House, spokesman for the state Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division.

The plates were deemed offensive by a 10-person DMV panel that approves custom, or “vanity” plates, which cost an extra $80.

House, who serves on the panel, said the reasons were the sexual references that can be associated with the name, which can be treated as a verb. “DINK has several derogatory meanings,” wrote panel member Yvonne Bell. She said it also can be a racial slur, especially toward Vietnamese. House said the “U” in the front could be construed as “You.”

It seems unreal to Mike Udink, whose name is Dutch. He says it is a common name in The Netherlands.

found by Aric Mackey who points out that in the USA DINK commonly means “double income, no kids.” Hardly offensive.

HA. Thats nothing. The Maryland DMV finds my real last name offensive, too. Thanks to Wayne’s World, the word SCHWING is no longer just my last name. Bastards..

  2. DaveW says:

#33 “This is the same state that is giving out driver licenses to illegal aliens like candy. ”

I wonder how many of them are named Wang?

Oh, and I well remember Winky Dink, and sure enough my mom was too cheap to send for the kit, and I used crayons on the TV screen. It didn’t work very well on our black and white TV anyway. I still remember the “Well if you weren’t so cheap…..” coming out of my mouth just before my ass got swatted! I’d wager that Winky Dink was responsible for more domestic violence than any other television program of the era!

My friend down the street had the kit and even had color TV so that the whole thing worked like it was supposed to.

Trust me, this is a liberal state. We hate government.
This is not about Oregonians, but about 1 out of 10 DMV panel members that feel the need to assert their Patriot Act powers over the masses. The other 9 out of 10 panel members just ignorantly went along for the ride.

Why aren’t the national TV standards used for whats appropriate on plates? If you don’t like the words, don’t drive behind the car.

Let the plate owner decide if he/she wants an offensive term on their vehicle. I would think after the 1st or 2nd vandalism attack on their car they might think different. Let the people decide, not one politician.

  5. OhForTheLoveOf says:

This is exactly why I had to paint the words “Go Fuck Yourself You Government Bastards!” on my van manually…

That, and it didn’t fit on my license plate 🙂

Now… In Indiana, can I get ATHEIST on the “In God We Trust” plates the local theocracy is pushing?

  6. Mel says:

OK Origon so lets get those nasty plates cleaned up, do not allow:P

  7. hhopper says:

I guess Angel won’t get his vanity plate either.

  8. BeckyD says:

PERRY! I remember Winky Dink, I LOVED playing that on the TV..got to draw on the plastic you stuck to the tv screen, oh yeah, you are NOT alone!

IM SO SICK of political correctness I COULD CROAK. Its spawned a whole bunch of whiney, overly sensitive boors. “I find that offensive…”, “Im offended”…offensive offensive..OFFENSIVE THIS!

The closest I can come to a “sexual” insinuation is the term for the male anatomy, “dinkus”..mostly used for children, like my neighbor always told his son, be sure to wash your ‘dillydally’.Its really hilarious some of the names people come up with for that. WHATS WRONG WITH US? ITS A PENIS. This country is so repressed.

AND HEY EASY on the Christians.NO Im not offended but we aren’t all as bad as the rap we get.
Im Christian, yeah there are some folks that claim to be that go overboard on several issues, But geez, we aren’t ALL like that! Thanks for considering that.

As I recall, the unkind term used for the viet cong during the war was “gook” not dink..dink would have actually been very funny to call ANYbody;.gook was used even more than chink back then. I never used it but sure heard it plenty.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE, THO? THAT is those peoples’ last name! That State exerting its “right” to censor license plates just kills me spewing that. They should APOLOGIZE and give them their plates back. NOTHING offensive about Dink OR Udink…unless you’re PC happy and they need a wake up call anyway.

I dink, Udink, we all dink water. Naw, just kidding.
We all dink they should give back the plates and grow up!
As long as it can be shown to be a legit last name, the state should have NO right to deny the person’s right to use their own last name. SHAMEFUL state interference. If somebody complains about the plates, tell them to not look at them. Geez, drive on down the road and forget how AWFULLY you were insulted by the word dink. I had a dog named dinky once. I was 7 yrs old. Nobody was offended then. We gotta stop all this whiney offended crap. (Now I realize there ARE times when something really IS bad and shouldnt be said at or about someone, but…taking away a license with the persons’ REAL last name on it cuz it MIGHT offend some whiner? PULLEEASE.

I WISH I could write to that 10 person panel.

  9. Jenn says:

This happened to me in Maine. They refused the license plate FARQUE saying it was a french obscenity, which it is not. I proved it was a name and they still revoked my vanity plate, and YET, they allow the plate “BIG DICK”! Which is more offensive?

  10. Jeff says:

    Dear D.J.H, david.j.house@odot.state.or.us

I use your initials because I find your name to be
offensive and would ask you to refrain from using it
in public. Your full name “D_____ H______” is commonly
understood to refer to a Christian organization that I
find offensive to my godless beliefs.

Furthermore, Your associate “Yvonne Bell” is obviously
taunting the public with her made up name. Everyone
knows it means “Eve On Bell” referring to a female
with a stretched out pie-hole masturbating with a
    school bell.

I find your whole department offensive and am thinking
of suing the whole fucking bunch of you.

    NEWSFLASH DVORAK:
The DMV review board is not the entire state of Oregon. Fucking idiot.

  12. Mike Johnson says:

Ok, you dinkheads at Oregon DMV if you reject Udink, does that mean that my last name is on the list as well because it, is SOMETIMES referred to as a man’s Penis????

  13. mekareami says:

I am appalled by the censorship from a state I have considered moving to… but even more so by #30s comment. ‘“double income, no kids” is offensive to all the parents out there who have to raise the next generation while the DINKs live it up without the burden.’

Last time I checked no one was forced to breed at gunpoint (at least in the US). Your decision to have kids is not my fault nor my problem. Just because I chose not to ruin my life and spread my crappy DNA on to future generations on an already overpopulated planet does not mean I don’t bear the burden of future generations. At work the people with kids are always leaving early for ‘family emergencies’ or recitals/games and we are left to pick up the slack. Here in the US they like to ban and control lots of things for “the good of the children”. They take a large portion of my paycheck to pay for the idiots who ‘value life’ too much to realize they cannot support themselves let alone another human.

    Quality > Quantity IMHO.

Personally I think your kids are your own problem. I will pay taxes for schools but it is the parents job to monitor and correct their kids behavior. After the clove ban that went into effect this week I filled with loathing for the breeders and their spawn who feel that they are justified controlling adults activities so that they don’t have to bother being a parent. So kindly stop whining about people who were more careful or rational with their reproductive decisions. Perhaps after a couple decades of double digit population decline you might gain more supporters but last time I checked, homo sapiens were NOT on the endangered species list.

Oh and if they are allowed to have “in god we trust” on a license plate then I should be able to get one that says “god is dead” Both are philosophical opinion and offensive to those who do not share the belief. Its not just X’tians, but they seem to be the ones that like to meddle most in the US. I know there are decent folks out there the subscribe to that belief system but they are overshadowed by the whackos. ‘The land of the free’ certainly doesn’t feel that way anymore and I am pretty sure that “the right not to be offended” was not something written into the bill of rights.

  14. GeoNOregon says:

You think that’s bad, in about 1972, some enterprising Vietnam vets I knew had some bumper stickers printed for sale. They had to order a second order, twice as large, the same day they received the first order. Needless, to say, the powers that be took a very dim view to and police all over the area stopped cars and order the sticker removed when they saw in big black letters:

    F**K WAR
