Breasts move far more than ordinary bras are designed to cope with, according to a study by University of Portsmouth scientist Dr Joanna Scurr.

She said the big question is why we know so little about the movement of breasts.

“Sports science has always been dominated by men and for them, studying breasts is seen as slightly laughable. For women, though, it’s completely credible – they can see the benefits.

She said: “It is only recently that bra design has turned to science. There was no research. It’s like designing a car or kitchen equipment without first thinking ‘what is the purpose of this?’

She’s right, you know.

I have long been a supporter of bouncing breasts.

  2. mrmigu says:

i wonder if they need any volunteers to do this study 😉

  3. Jetfire says:

Don’t you have to have breast to bounce in the first place? Need a better Picture.

  4. Jerry says:

Will they analyze man-boobs, too? I wonder if the lack of mammary glands makes boobs bounce differently than moobs.

  5. Stuart says:

I figure it’s a bit like a spot the ball competition crossed with an anatomy lesson. They’ve marked the possible locations of the test subjects breasts and it’s up to you to locate them.

  6. Cinaedh says:

I can’t believe that unofficially, men haven’t studied this phenomenon a lot more closely than women.

  7. Jerry says:

…Also (I can’t believe I’m the first one to make this reference), why do they keep the study subjects so cold? Yikes!

  8. Stuart says:

#6: Men have long studied this phenomenon. Now we’ve learnt the get paid for it too.

Not a great chat up line, but it might work…. “Would you like to help me with a scientific study?”

  9. B. Dog says:

    Yes, more study is needed.

  10. Gasparrini says:

I vote for a hands on approach to this study.

  11. JimR says:

I used to wonder why women rarely contribute to Dvorak U.

  12. qsabe says:

Free the women from those awful foam rubber amazon breast plates they are now forced to wear. Let the 60’s return..

  13. GregA says:

For those of you that don’t know, the bra was stolen technology.

The bra was invented by an engineer of German extraction called Onto Titzling in 1912. He was living in a New York boarding house, and one of his neighbours, a voluptuous opera singer called Swanhilda Olafson, complained that she needed a garment to hoist her vast bosom aloft every evening — so Titzling obliged, using some cotton, elastic and metal struts. Unfortunately, he failed to patent the device and, in the early 1930s, a Frenchman named Philippe de Brassière began making a suspiciously similar object. Titzling took him to court, but the unscrupulous Frenchman won the day. And that’s why the garment all the ladies are wearing is called a brassiere, not a titzling.

  14. RTaylor says:

#12 have you given any thought to what those perky flower children of the 60’s would look like now? Especially without wearing a bra for 40 years. Gravity bad, support good

  15. apeguero says:

Now, shouldn’t they have used a model with a little more “bounce” if you know what I mean?

  16. Mark Derail says:

#13 GregA that is a hilarious story.

How come nobody commented on the fact that the current test subject is rather Petite & childless?
Probably not even requiring any support whatsoever.

Then again, I just think I’m an expert.

Wow, that girl has really big nipples… oh wait never mind.

  18. Billabong says:

Why do they call them titz? Howard Hughes invented a bra for Jane Russel to wear in the movie The Outlaw this would have made a much better picture than the one used.If God had given men tits we would still be living in caves.

    Bouncy Bouncy??

  20. joshua says:

Didn’t Huges come up with the cantilevered bra for Russell??

  21. joshua says:

#21….hahahahahahahahahahaha….forgive my fruedian slip….that should have been **Hughes** not *huges*……:)

    #13 – GregA

“The bra was invented by an engineer of German extraction called Onto Titzling in 1912….

…And that’s why the garment all the ladies are wearing is called a brassiere, not a titzling.”

    Not so.

    #14 – RTaylor

“#12 have you given any thought to what those perky flower children of the 60’s would look like now? Especially without wearing a bra for 40 years. Gravity bad, support good”

…and that is why I’ve always preferred the size displayed by the test subject there. As the years pass, they’ll still look and feel nearly the same, which is to say great… 😉

After all – as every girl who wears an A cup will tell you – more than a mouthful is a waste.

    Wheres the video?

  25. tallwookie says:

#24 – they say that because they’re jealous.

I fully support all research in bouncing breasts. WOOT TITIES!!!!

BTW, this post is among the best ever posted.
