I don’t hate Vista. In fact, I love it more than anything I’ve used yet!
I have the 64-bit version, and except for some occasional weirdness with several games, it has yet to crash in over six months of use. It’s absolutely stable, far more so than any version of the Mac operating system I’ve had on … my … er, um… well, that other computer I use.
People who hate Vista must have a grudge against Microsoft.
time to buy sony stock?
“Everybody Hates Vista!” Really? Who’d of thunk it?! #1 I don’t have a grudge against Microsoft, but when I couldn’t use about 1/2 of my programs, some barely a year old, I “upgraded” to XP. All of my hardware was “Vista” compatible, but I just had no time to find work arounds. I believe that Microsoft didn’t really think this one out. Of course I am also still waiting for the next Duke Nukem.
Hey John. Have you actually used Vista yet, instead of relying on inaccurate and biased bull$hit on blogs and apple-funded FUD merchants?
Yeah, I didn’t think so!
How about you either put up and actually give vista shot or shut up!
privacy cop wtf?!? yahoo spybot s&d
just make sure to turn off teatimer during spybot s&d install
I wholeheartedly agree with Pedro about #4.
Also, #4, poster in #1 runs Vista out of his Mac, read between the lines.
Oh, #3, I found out what happened to RL Duke Nukem ! On TerrorTube.

I meant the grudge comment as a joke.
I have several things that must be run in compatiblity mode, selected by right-clicking the program icon and then clicking the appropriate operating system. A couple of those things still don’t work properly, but fortunately, there are updates coming.
#8:
I have Vista on an HP; the Mac is an old PowerBook.
#8 ROFL!
And to add further overall, I use both Mac and Windows. I use my Mac PowerBook G4 12″ at school, mainly for the battery life. I kill my friends that I still haven’t plugged into the AC after 4 to 5 hours, though if I brought my XP notebook to class it would die after 45 minutes.
@4 – “How about you either put up and actually give vista shot or shut up!”
I’ve got Vista on 1 machine. The control panel is a nightmare, the default settings are horrific, about 15% of my existing software will either not install or not run on it, it is incompatible with all free 3rd party firewalls and has at least 2 pointless popups for every action you do.
Many times if you right-click a file and try to use a context menu (WinRAR, for example), it will do nothing.
I have not had stability problems with Vista and the operating system looks nice, but either an operating system can run all of the software you are accustomed to running on WinXP or it can’t — and Vista can’t.
So my Vista machine is mostly for web surfing or watching movies on it, since it is not nearly as useful as my XP machines.
It is possible some of these apps will run by monkeying around with settings, but after trying compatibility mode and such and it still not working it is not clear what other options there are to make them work.
The compatibility is my #1 complaint about Vista, #2 is the terrible default settings that have popups for everything and #3 is the obfuscation of the control panel and all the menus making finding everything impossible.
To me, Vista is exactly like OS/X — both look nice but really suck when you are trying to find things.
I have Vista, upgraded from XP and everything went smoothly. I did have to upgrade about 4 applications so they’d work with Vista but I would have upgraded anyway even if I stayed with XP.
I still get blue screens after the computer goes to sleep for a while and when I hit a key, I get the BS but it restarts and everything is hunky dory. I’m hoping that after one of these patches, that little annoyance will be gone.
So, all in all, I’m ok with Vista. Mind you, I bought a 24′ Dell monitor at about the same time so perhaps I’m just gaga over the resolution and quality and summarily dismiss arguments about Vista. Anyway, this monitor kicks..
I run Vista on two machines. New machines, mind you, that came with Vista. Both have 2Gigs. of Ram. I have had almost no problems. ITunes does a few funny things, (Probably a plugin I downloaded) but overall I like it. Never had a blue screen or frozen reboot. But I guess the non-using geeks know better….
My wife bopped into the study while I was listening to the podcast, this morning. Her reaction – she’s in banking IT – ?
“Our prime software provider sent us only one instruction about Vista: ‘Don’t install it on any of your computers!'”
Mind you, I bought a 24′ Dell monitor
Damn. And I thought my 6 foot monitor was big.
Try Ubuntu! Ubuntu is an easy to install Debian based Linux Distro. Gpl’ed software can do everything! My favorite apps are swiftweasel, ktorrent, miro, xmms, totem, konquer for file browsing, openoffice, googleearth and on and on. Hi Hi. Learn how Sudo should be used!
One of my friends got a new laptop with Vista on it. That is why I bought a new computer from Dell with Ubuntu Linux on it. I just installed Gutsy Gibbon and it totally rocks! \m/
Whatever you do, don’t load 64-bit Vista. I’m still having nightmares.

You should don your green goblin suit and smack Paul Allen with one of your pumkin shaped grenades that vaporise people.
Don’t forget to avoid that emo kid with the blue and red tights.
15. This happened with XP too, big deal. Have to be nuts to tinker with it at this stage. Did he tell them it was OK to install OSX?
Hey, I tried the recommended “TrojanHunter” that John
recommended. My virus program, Bullguard, says IT
has a TROJAN built into it!!
I have both Vista and Ubuntu, prefer Vista.
On a personal note, I’ve tried OS X and hated it.
Among the things I didn’t like:
1 Title Bar
2 Menu Bar is not attached to the application window.
3 Closing an application window does not close the app.
4 A lot of easy to find apps in Windows.
5 iPhoto, absolutely hated it, the GUI in particular, also permits duplicate file names.
6 Safari
7 Never found a File Manager, I’m sure there must be one.
8 No right click, content sensitive menu.
I know there are most likely workarounds. As macs start to become popular they will lose their cool factor, then you could use Linux.

“I know there are most likely workarounds. As macs start to become popular they will lose their cool factor, then you could use Linux.”
If someone assadinated Bill Gates and I was asked to sit on the jury I would lie myself on just to aquit the assasin.
Vista has been a downgrade from XP, and XP was nothing to be excited about.
