Interesting you should bring this up, gasparrini. Here’s what AT&T is up to now (and does it surprise anyone?) —

That is interesting. If AT&T tries to control the content on their network, won’t they lose their exemption under the Safe Harbor Provision in the DMCA?

I am tempted to say, “George Bush should die in a terrorist attack … God is Great!” every time I pick up the phone.

I’m sure their lawyers have it worked out so AT&T can do as they please to anyone and be responsible to no-one for anything, ever.

If Micro$oft can do that just by putting a finely printed Terms of Service agreement on all their packages, which activates the second you open the shrink wrap, I expect AT&T’s phalanxes of scum-sucking lawyers should be able to do the same thing with no problems whatsoever.

It seems to me that this is what the “Net Neutrality” issue is mainly about. AT&T is doing this to keep competing content streams (legal or not) from passing thru their network (in spite of their customers paying for that passage!), in order that their own proprietary content streams will make more money (even if they’re now ready yet, in all markets). Unfortunately, “Net Neutrality” is a confusing term. It should have been “Net Free Enterprise”, or “Net Fair Passage”. “Neutrality” has to be explained too often, in this context. What AT&T is doing is the 21th century equiva;ent of the 18th century Stamp Act. Only, instead of charging a tax for goods, not sold by the British Crown, AT&T just limits of blocks you getting competing services and content.

  6. I love your Police State News Bulletins, but I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

In my most recent podcast, I start off with a rant about the airport fear factor.
