Won’t see me — a red-blooded ‘merican — gettin’ hitched to a guy just ’cause it’s fashionable. No sirree!

Ten Reasons Gay Marriage Is Un-American

1. Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

    Gay marriage is for homosexuals.

    Why shouldn’t homosexuals be allowed to experience the torture of marriage?

    Is being tall a behavior you could assume?

  10. grog says:

    bottom line: if you believe that the meaning of your own marriage is defined by the actions of other people, then your marriage is doomed.

  11. Steven Long says:

    @2:
    It is because homosexuals enjoy working out.
    Apparently they also like to shop (as there are bags, too).

    @8/9:
    I have a friend who is the same height as me (5’10”), but I am clearly taller.

  12. I’ve been hanging out with tall people for a long time. The only thing that makes me taller is putting on my rollerblades, but then my feet don’t reach the floor.

    IMNHSO, marriage is for lovers!! (A shameless plug for my most popular blog post since I pointed my own opinion spout at at the world, or at least the subset willing to read it.)

    #10 – grog,

    Nailed it!!

  13. bobbo says:

    And who is against gay marraige?===the religious folks====

    who cannot be “free” unless YOU are oppressed.

    Kind of telling.

  14. MikeN says:

    Yet the effects on society is clear. Sure most marriages are safe, but it is the borderline marriages where the changes occur. Looking at scandinavia and so forth shows that gay marriage is another wrecking ball to marriage, which is the cornerstone of society.

  15. #14 – MikeN,

    I don’t understand. Are you really stating that if I see a same sex married couple, it just might actually affect my marriage??!!? How?

  16. bobbo says:

    14–MikeN==I can see an argument that gay marriage could be a sign/cause of the deterioration of “society” but not of marriage. Did you casually mistate or will you respond to Scott?

    and if society is hurt by gay marriage, you might explain that too. Always curious how Freedom to be left alone is a bad thing.

  17. BubbaRay says:

    #15, Scott, ’cause then your wife’s gonna needle you about your blue jeans and golf shirt and you’ll spend next month’s fun money on new clothes.

    “Cause every girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man.” ♫

    🙂 🙂 🙂

  18. #16 – bobbo,

    It’s actually more than just freedom to be left alone. There are rights that go along with marriage. When one spouse is in the hospital, the next of kin may be the only one allowed visitation. Spouse is always next of kin. Lover is not. In more severe situations, it is the next of kin that makes life and death decisions. Again, this is the spouse when there is one. When one dies intestate, if there is a surviving spouse, that person inherits the estate.

    As long as same sex couples are not allowed to marry, they are denied these rights. This is unconscionable. It is also a violation of the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, among others.

    Here’s a difficult question for some people. Are homosexuals human beings?

    If your answer is yes, by what possible logic do you deny them the same rights as any other human being? If your answer is no, please stop wasting valuable oxygen.

  19. #17 – BubbaRay,

    ROFL!! And I thought I was the last person alive who remembered ZZ Top.

  20. bobbo says:

    18–Scott==just to pull your chain. The “right to be left alone” is the highest most important right, so that is what I posted.

    Right to visit the ill? If the ill person is “conscious”–they can allow any visitor they wish. If they are unconscious, keeping visitors away speeds their recovery. Hospitals need less visitors clogging up their space, spreading disease, stealing surgical gowns.

    Any rationale person has a will. With a will, you can give your stuff to anyone you wish. If you die intestate, you are stupid and we should do all we can to reduce such persons impact on our society==not because they are gay, but because they don’t exercise sufficient foresight.

    Maintaining a cultural norm that has been in place “forever” is not unconscionable. Maybe other things, but not unconscionable. Moderate your language if you don’t want your chain pulled.

    A similar question is “Are Zygotes human beings?” and the answer is of course they are. So the relevant question is, what type of human being is given what range of rights? ((That one even hurt me!)).

    So, anyway, in truth, marriage is not a right. Most of what you post is invalidated by that central fact.

  21. grog says:

    #14 MikeN — if the cornerstone of society is marriage then how come every evangelical church condones divorce? how come one GOP front-runner is a polygamist and another treats marriage like a car lease?

    answer: conservatives don’t really care about marriage they’re just afraid of turning gay.

    so, gimme a break with that crap already, it’s tired, and it kinda makes you sound gay.

  22. #20 – bobbo,

    Scott.chain == pulled;
    Scott.opinion == unchanged;
    Scott.language == unmoderated && unchanged.

    And … a zygote is not a human being. Sorry.

    As for marriage, it should be equally available to all adult humans. Anything less is still unconscionable in my book.

    #21 – grog,

    You couldn’t possibly be suggesting that homophobia is evidence of latent homosexuality, could you? This would imply that there is no reason for one person to concern themselves with the sexuality of another unless they had some interest in that person’s sexuality.

  23. KevinL says:

    It would be “special rights” since homoist men already have the right to marry women. Normal men don’t have any rights to marry men.

    I wish I had the link for this but if you look at every known fallen advanced society through history, every fall has coincided with a rise in women’s political power and homoism. Here comes 2012!

  24. Les says:

    I dont have a problem with gay marriage, I just think his reasons are assinine.

  25. grog says:

    #22 it’s a well-known fact that conservatives are fascinated, even obsessed with homosexuality — they just won’t quit talking about.

    and all their leaders wind up having weird sex with guys and congressional pages in public bathrooms.

    i dunno, seems kinda creepy to me.

  26. HisMostHumblyExhaultedSupremeGlobalWarmingMajesty says:

    As long as we can still make gay jokes, I don’t care if they marry.

    PC is the true society killer.

  27. #23 – KevinL,

    Wow!! You’re really reaching there. I’d say that heterosexuals have the right to marry people they love but homosexuals do not. Hence this is discriminatory and offensive.

  28. bobbo says:

    23–Kevin==thanks for the bigger picture/context view:

    “every known fallen advanced society through history, every fall has coincided with a rise in women’s political power and homoism.”

    But male dominated restrictive societies have fallen as well- – -so, I wonder what the degree of causation/mere correlation might be?

    I can see a society that “gives into” minority groups yammering for “right” can grow into a society that can only see arguing for its “rights” to be acknowledged and loose the desire to fight those who also want the right to occupy their land?

    Still, what causes societies to fail is a popular subject.
    Doing away with religion, mercenary armies, welfare state are a couple of more?

  29. Matt Garrett says:

    That post is so filled with inaccuracies and fallacies that one doesn’t even know where to start. Granted, “dvorak.org/blog” loves gay marriage, but at least debate using the facts and stop trying to demonize the other side of the issue.

  30. #29 – Matt Garrett,

    Great post. Dismiss everyone’s opinions with a few keystrokes without being at all specific about the hell you’re talking about. I think your entire post parses out to be semantically null.
